'It seems that we may also have to think of atrial fibrillation as an atrial cardiomyopathy -- that is, a challenged heart -- rather than as a purely electrical disorder', she says. Defects in muscle fibres and mitochondria Contrary to expectations, the researchers did not find any disturbances in the ion channels that spread electrical signals between the heart's muscle cells. Instead, they found defects in the structure of the heart muscle itself and in the mitochondria that normally function as the cell's power plant. The defects already occurred in the foetal stage of the fish and deteriorated exponentially with...

Nothing the Clintons do is accidental. And so when the news broke less than two weeks before the Iowa caucuses that in a forthcoming Hulu documentary, Hillary Clinton badmouths her 2016 rival Bernie Sanders as a “career politician” whom “nobody likes,” it didn’t just call attention to the ill feeling still lingering from that year’s bitter primary campaign. It also signaled that Clinton has thrown her weight behind the nascent “Stop Sanders” movement gaining steam among Democratic power brokers.

The 2020 ballot initiative would amend the state constitution to require commercial and industrial properties, except those zoned as commercial agriculture, to be taxed based on their market value. Under the new initiative, residential properties are excluded from this potential policy and would continue to be taxed under the original requirements of Proposition 13, when property ownership changes or when new construction is done. Property tax rates would not change, and there would be a qualified exception for some small businesses, according to official documents. First set in 1978, Proposition 13 places a cap on tax rates for residential, commercial...

by Joe Callen | Washington Editor A bombshell new report is derailing the Democrats' momentum against President Trump on Day One of the Senate impeachment trial. The article -- in the left-leaning Politico of all places -- on Tuesday night alleges that House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff appears to have “mischaracterized” evidence that was used in House Democrats’ impeachment investigation. But Republicans are calling the report "soft-pedaling", insisting that Schiff "fabricated evidence" in a naked attempt to "frame" Trump. Either way, the shocking late-night report has thrown the Democrats' Senate plan into complete chaos. The stunning report focuses on...

The state of California is intervening in a class action settlement over alleged gender discrimination and sexual harassment at Riot Games, the video game developer behind “League of Legends,” The Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday. The company reached a preliminary settlement with former female employees who brought a lawsuit last year, agreeing to pay them $10 million. However, the state believes that figure is far less than what the women deserve. After two state agencies weighed in, California is now asking the gaming company to pay the women $400 million.

On our campaign, we talk all the time about meeting people where they are at. Many of the approaches we use — door knocking, phonebanking, texting — don’t do that for everyone. There are a set of voters we’ll never reach through those methods. We need a way to bridge this gap. We need a way to turn every day conversations into real data to help us build our universe of supporters to turn out on election day. That’s where Reach comes in. Reach is a new type of canvassing tool. Now from any of your spontaneous interactions (at the...

CLAIM: If President Donald Trump really cared about corruption in Ukraine, he would have raised it before. But he never did. VERDICT: False. Trump raised it specifically — even lecturing the former Ukrainian president about it in 2017. Lead House impeachment manager Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) claimed on Tuesday in President Donald Trump’s Senate impeachment trial that Trump did not care about corruption in Ukraine except when it allegedly involved his potential rival in the 2020 presidential election, former Vice President Joe Biden. Schiff said: You might ask yourself: if the president was so concerned about corruption, why didn’t he...

President Trump has said the awakening of the public is key to this transformation. Q describes this awakening as follows: "The Great Awakening ('Freedom of Thought’), was designed and created not only as a backchannel to the public (away from the longstanding ‘mind’ control of the corrupt & heavily biased media) to endure future events through transparency and regeneration of individual thought (breaking the...

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump's defense failed him at the opening of his Senate impeachment trial on Tuesday. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., had one job. He just had to collect 51 votes for the trial rules he had written, in close consultation with White House officials, to deliver Trump an acquittal quickly, quietly and with as few surprises as possible. He couldn't do it. Fellow Republicans balked at his plan so late in the game — moments before the start of the trial — that he had to order up handwritten changes sought by Democrats just to secure...

Two weeks ago, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was in a bind. Cracks were beginning to form in the ranks of Senate Republicans, and some moderate and vulnerable GOP senators were voicing their support for calling witnesses in Trump's impeachment trial — a measure McConnell and other allies of President Donald Trump were staunchly against. Then John Bolton, Trump's former national security adviser, said he was prepared to testify. The announcement was McConnell's worst nightmare. A pivotal witness who was in the president's inner circle had stepped forward and offered to testify in Trump's trial. Could McConnell and Senate Republicans...

While the House impeachment managers were making the argument that witnesses should be called during the Senate's trial, former Vice President Joe Biden's Rapid Response Director Andrew Bates was busy telling voters "what really happened in Ukraine." "Donald Trump was caught redhanded. And I'm going to give you the facts," Bates said. "So what really happened in Ukraine? In 2014, Russia invaded the country and the U.S. and our allies decided that we had to support them against this Russian aggression. President Obama turned to Vice President Joe Biden to lead that effort because of his history in foreign policy."...
