Thirty-seven states still have Blaine Amendments on the books. The Supreme Court now has a chance to get rid of them for good.Later this month, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear one of the most significant education cases in decades: Espinoza v. Montana Department of Revenue. Centering around a modest tax-credit scholarship program in Montana, Espinoza could have major ramifications for educational-choice programs across America, which help nearly half a million students attend private schools. In deciding Espinoza, the Court has the opportunity to do more than just settle the fate of one controversial tax credit; it could also junk...

Court grants government control over appointment of teachers in minority-run schools India’s Supreme Court has allowed the government to control the appointment of teachers in educational institutions run by religious minorities, a ruling Church leaders say violates their right to manage such institutions. Ucanews.org reported that the country’s top court upheld a West Bengal state law that allowed a government commission to screen candidates to be appointed as teachers in government-funded madrassas (Muslim religious schools). “The order definitely will have a bearing in the administration of church-run education institutions, too,” said Salesian Fr Joseph Manipadam, secretary to the Indian Catholic...

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell on Tuesday signaled that Hunter Biden may be subpoenaed to testify in the Trump impeachment trial. McConnell also told reporters the impeachment trial is likely to begin next Tuesday. NBC News reporter Kasie Hunt asked McConnell if he would back calling in Hunter Biden to testify. McConnell left the door open to the possibility and responded, “I can’t imagine” there will only be people the Democrats want to hear from. The Democrats launched an impeachment inquiry into President Trump after CIA official Eric Ciaramella filed a whistleblower complaint against Trump over a July 25 phone...

Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe taunted Democrats on Sunday and revealed he will be releasing the ‘first bombshell tape’ of the 2020 election this week. “You aren’t going to want to miss what we expose in 2020,” O’Keefe said reminding Americans that his undercover videos exposed “bird dogging” and other schemes cooked up by the Democrats to start fights at Trump’s rallies in 2016. O’Keefe released a teaser of his first undercover bombshell video exposing 2020 Democrats and it looks like Bernie Sanders will be O’Keefe’s first target based on hints in his vignette. James teased the new release with...

Republican Brian Farnen wins House special election in Fairfield by 82 votes. Hold for Republicans. The Democrat (Leeper) was favored to win here. This area trended to the left very, very fast. (Think yuppie limousine liberal area.) Yet the GOP held on. https://twitter.com/KYSecState/status/1217251626307739648 Unofficial results from 38th district special election to replace retired Sen. "Iranian general Soleimani killed Americans and he likely supplied the IED that nearly killed me," Church, who is running in the special election to fill Wisconsin's vacant Seventh Congressional District seat, says in the ad. . . . "It's the career politicians who helped coddle Iran in the first place, giving them the resources necessary to fight these wars," Church says in the video, which now has over 410,000 views. "It's the weakness of these career politicians that needs to be fought, and I will fight with President Donald Trump every day to defend our nation."

America today is in the grip of a gradually building crisis that, despite its manifest importance, somehow managed to remain more or less invisible for decades — at least, until the political earthquake of 2016. That crisis is the collapse of work for adult men, and the retreat from the world of work of growing numbers of men of conventional working age. According to the latest monthly jobs report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, "work rates" for American men in October 2019 stood very close to their 1939 levels, as reported in the 1940 U.S. Census. Despite some improvement since the...

...Meanwhile, there is one thing we can say for sure. To paraphrase John Lennon, Kyle Jurek may be a violent Communist dreamer, but he’s not the only one. James Hodgkinson, another Bernie Bro, has already done some of the worst things that Jurek threatens. The liberal press has tried to bury the fact that Hodgkinson, a Sanders volunteer and hard-core labor unionist, shot up a group of Republican Congressmen, and would have succeeded in murdering the House Majority Whip, but for the miracles of modern medicine. .... But how many more are there where Hodgkinson and Jurek came from? How...

Eating vegetables offers a lot of health benefits -- but it doesn't slow the progression of prostate cancer. The finding, reported in a study published Tuesday in the Journal of the American Medical Association, follows an experimental program designed by the UC San Diego Moores Comprehensive Cancer Center in which men with prostate cancer received nutritional consultation over the telephone. The consultation encouraged consumption of at least seven daily servings of vegetables or fruit -- defined as a half-cup of raw or cooked vegetables or fruits or 100 percent vegetable juice, including at least two servings each of cruciferous vegetables,...

[Catholic Caucus] Bishop Schneider defends Cdl Sarah for his ‘heroic’ book on priestly celibacy ‘One might say that the intervention of Cardinal Sarah has provoked, so to speak, the anger of hell.’ ROME, January 14, 2019 (LifeSiteNews) – Bishop Athanasius Schneider is speaking out in strong support of Cardinal Robert Sarah for his new book with Benedict XVI defending priestly celibacy, calling his actions “heroic.” News of the forthcoming volume, titled “From the Depths of Our Hearts: Priesthood, Celibacy, and the Crisis of the Catholic Church,” was announced on Sunday, receiving a wave of praise but also considerable backlash. ...

Alex Cora, who won the World Series in 2018 in his debut season as manager of the Boston Red Sox but has been linked this offseason to two sign-stealing schemes, has mutually agreed to part ways with the team. Cora, 44, led the Red Sox past the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games in 2018, a year removed from winning the World Series in Houston as Astros bench coach. He is awaiting discipline from MLB for his role in a sign-stealing scheme by the Astros, and is still under investigation for a different sign-stealing scheme that is said to have...

It’s San Francisco, so naturally there’s some controversy. Burgers are the number one segment of restaurant food, ripe for disruption by robotics, and the VCs are pouncing. Robots might take away fast-food jobs, or create better ones, so the labor activists are activating. But today I just want to understand how they made it. How two young engineers could invent a complicated culinary robot that makes cheeseburgers from scratch. Really good ones. I’m on my second visit to Creator, the world’s only robotic hamburger restaurant. Since opening doors in September 2018, it has built a rep for quality and innovation,...

The war was nearly over on March 6, 1940. The enemy, propagandized as an unstoppable fighting machine, was indeed overwhelming the army of the country they’d invaded. Six days later, the aggressors would finally force an armistice, and soon grab control of much of the land they’d coveted. It had taken longer than the two weeks they’d anticipated, but conditions were harsh, the defenders far more resolute than expected. For more than three months, battlefields roared with motoring tanks, gunfire and artillery explosions, obliterating the natural beauty of the countryside. Through it all, one warrior emerged as perhaps the finest...
