Mnuchin said that the executive order does not itself contain new sanctions, but gives Trump the authority to enact them.

MSNBC host Chuck Todd called President Trump's attacks on Joe Biden's son, Hunter, "vicious" and said that the network was not going to "reward" the president by airing them. "President Trump held a campaign rally in Minnesota last night. There are parts of it we can't show you, or rather, there are parts of it we're not going to show you," Todd said Friday on MSNBC. "The president's red meat vitriol wasn't new. Neither was his use of profanity. "The president went further than he's ever gone before. So we are going further than we've ever gone before to say...

A George Washington University law professor, who participated as a lawyer in a Senate impeachment trial, took aim at the media for dismissing allegations of corruption by former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter. In a Saturday op-ed for the Hill, Jonathan Turley argued that "the mere mention" of Hunter Biden "seemingly triggers the vapors among cable TV hosts and their guests," pointing to several instances in which members of the media have quickly cut off guests or coverage of the Bidens' dealings in Ukraine. "For news shows on MSNBC, CNN and other cable networks, nothing is more...

The House is on fire. And with each passing day, Donald Trump defiles the office of the president. If only past defrocked presidents could provide a roadmap for this firestorm. Andrew Johnson fought impeachment vigorously and survived removal, but never won reelection. Richard Nixon got in the way of justice, but eventually bowed to the rule of law, accepting his asterisk in the annals of history and resigning before certain removal. Bill Clinton expressed contrition, went on to complete his presidency with high approval ratings and has remained a popular former president. If you care about democracy, the rule of...

President Trump has answered these critics. The Kurds were engaged in a contractual relationship fighting the Islamic State (ISIS). They were well paid and equipped for their fighting, much like any mercenary group. Further, they were given three years to consolidate eastern Syria to feed their long-held desire to form an independent Kurdistan with other Kurds in Turkey, Iraq, and Iran. They failed. The Kurds’ problem, and by association that of the U.S., is that regional powers like Turkey and to a lesser extent Iran and Syria have long held the Kurds in disdain. In fact, Turkey considers the Syrian...

Hillary Clinton is celebrating 44 years of marriage to Bill Clinton, with a romantic post on social media. “Forty-four years later, and he still cleans up pretty well. Happy anniversary, Bill!” Hillary wrote on Friday night, sharing a photo of the couple dressed to the nines on a red carpet. Bill responded just as sweetly, tweeting a retro photo of him and his wife on their wedding day. “And after forty four years I’m still looking up to you, as happy today as I was then,” he wrote. The power couple met at Yale Law School in 1970 and began...

Los Angeles Angels employee details team's knowledge of Tyler Skaggs' drug use to federal DEA investigators A public relations employee for the Los Angeles Angels told federal investigators that he provided oxycodone to Tyler Skaggs and abused it with him for years, and that two team officials were told about Skaggs' drug use long before his death, according to two sources familiar with the investigation. Eric Kay, the Angels' director of communications, also gave U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents the names of five other players who he believed were using opiates while they were Angels, the sources said. "(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don't Want to Be Right" is a song written by Stax Records songwriters Homer Banks, Carl Hampton, and Raymond Jackson. Originally written for The Emotions, it has been performed by many singers, most notably by Luther Ingram, whose original recording topped the R&B chart for four weeks and rose to number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1972. Billboard ranked it as the No. 16 song for 1972. In 1972-73, The Faces recorded the song as an outtake for Ooh La La (1973), their final studio album. In 1974, Millie Jackson released...

I wrote here and here that, although the Democrats’ impeachment claims are frivolous, they have hurt President Trump in the polls. Trump’s history is that he tends to rise in the polls until a negative news cycle hits–which happens often–and then he will drop back down. In the latter post, I noted that before the impeachment frenzy struck, Trump had been rising in the Rasmussen survey. He was at 53% approval among likely voters as of September 24, a number that if maintained suggests a clear path to re-election. The coupling of the words “Trump” and “impeachment” in newspaper headlines–the...

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Remains from 165 additional aborted fetuses were found in the trunk of a car belonging to an abortion doctor who died back in September. The remains were found in Illinois while members of the Will County, Illinois Sheriff's Office were searching property and vehicles owned by Ulrich Klopfer. The 79-year-old died September 3 and thousands of remains were located shortly after his death by family members who were sorting his belongings. On October 2, Attorney General Curtis Hill oversaw the transportation of 2,246 of those aborted fetuses back to Indiana.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said in a new interview that a major difference between him and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) is Warren's support of capitalism. In an interview airing Sunday with ABC's Jon Karl, Sanders struck a stronger tone in distancing himself from Warren's views on economic policy than he has in previous months, and again asserted that he was the strongest candidate to take on entrenched, powerful corporations and special interest groups in Washington. "There are differences between Elizabeth and myself," Sanders said, referring to Warren. "Elizabeth, I think, as you know, has said that she is a capitalist...

President Trump defended his personal attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani on Saturday amid reports that federal prosecutors are investigating whether the former New York City mayor broke lobbying laws in his efforts to oust the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yavonovitch. “So now they are after the legendary ‘crime buster’ and greatest Mayor in the history of NYC, Rudy Giuliani,” Trump tweeted. “He may seem a little rough around the edges sometimes, but he is also a great guy and wonderful lawyer.” In defending Giuliani, Trump revived one of his recurring conspiracy theories that a “Deep State” of entrenched bureaucrats...

Police released a statement Saturday afternoon saying officers responded at 2:25 a.m. to a report the front door of a home was open in the 1200 block of East Allen Avenue.
