Feathers at the foot of a wind turbine. Bird droppings at the base of a solar panel. A coroner could use these signs to establish the cause of mass bird death. And a novelist could pen a murder mystery titled: Death by Renewable Energy. In 1969, there were far more active coal plants in America than today. However, in 1969, there were also 2.9 billion more birds in America. In the last decade alone, 289 coal plants have closed—a 40 percent reduction. Meanwhile, wind turbines and solar panels are going up at a record pace and scientists are reporting a “full-blown...

From a quarter to half of Earth’s vegetated lands has shown significant greening over the last 35 years largely due to rising levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide, according to a new study published in the journal Nature Climate Change on April 25. An international team of 32 authors from 24 institutions in eight countries led the effort, which involved using satellite data from NASA’s Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectrometer and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer instruments to help determine the leaf area index, or amount of leaf cover, over the planet’s vegetated regions. The greening...

I grew up during the Reagan years, and I remember them well. To me, the war and social upheavals of the 60s were history I’d never experienced and the country had thankfully moved past, and I was too young to remember the Carter malaise. So, the sense of national unity, patriotism, and optimism under the Gipper seemed like the norm, not an eight-year aberration, for a child of the 80s like myself. In hindsight, President Reagan was exactly what the country needed at the time. His inspiring speeches, calming demeanor, and even strident anti-communism were the perfect tonic for a...

Washington, DC – U.S. Representative Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) demonstrated a shocking level of ignorance when she recently described having held an AR-15 (video below). "I don't know what else it takes but I don't believe we can stop at the door of the United States House,” Jackson Lee told reporters in the Capitol building. “I believe there will have to be an emergence of members of the House flooding the United States Senate for Senator McConnell to understand that these initiatives today, my gun storage bill, my bill that I've introduced dealing with the caliber weapon, I've held an...

Last week, Elizabeth Warren walked into an interview that was supposed to be easy: The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. The liberal talk show host made it clear long ago that he’s no supporter of President Trump. He spent most of the interview joking around with the Democratic presidential hopeful, asking softball questions. But then he asked a serious question about the cost of her proposed “Medicare For All” scheme. “How are you going to pay for it? Are you going to be raising middle-class taxes?” Colbert asked. Now she could have done what a normal person would do: answer...

Climate activists demonstrating to coincide with the 2019 U.N. Climate Action Summit blocked intersections and snarled morning-commute traffic across Washington, D.C., Monday morning as they called on officials to take action on global warming. The group, called "Shut Down D.C.," has planned a week of activities to bring attention to climate change and convince national and international leaders to act. Monday's continuation of the "Global Climate Strike" follows worldwide climate protests on Friday, including a demonstration in New York City led by Swedish teenager Greta Thunberg.

Winter is coming, to borrow a phrase. Every New Yorker knows that during our long cold season, we rely on utility companies to supply us with power and heat. Life would get darn uncomfortable otherwise. What many may not know is that Governor Andrew Cuomo and his climate-obsessed administration has been working hard to deprive utilities of the fuel they need to keep our lights on and our central heating systems operational. There were even power cuts in New York City this summer because of Cuomo's irrational aversion to fossil fuels, and one downstate utility company stopped accepting new natural gas customers because of...

Adam Schiff has signaled that the Russian collusion narrative is officially dead. He didn't say that, of course, but that's what his actions mean. After bloviating threats of impeachment for Russian collusion- which never happened- Schiff has shifted course. Now the fate of the free world hangs on the conversation Trump had with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky in July. A so-called "whistleblower" expressed grave concern for something he allegedly heard. Problem is, the "whistleblower" got his(?) leak from someone else. This person has no firsthand knowledge of the conversation. “The whistleblower didn’t have direct knowledge of the communications, an official...

A California Court of Appeal has struck down a trial court ruling in favor of a Catholic hospital sued for not performing a sterilization procedure on a transgender individual for religious reasons. In 2017, a transgender male named Evan Minton filed a complaint against Dignity Health, whose hospital Mercy San Juan Medical Center refused on religious grounds to perform an elective hysterectomy as part of a gender reassignment. Presiding Justice Stuart Pollak of the Court of Appeals of California, First District, Division Four authored the opinion, which was released last week and reversed an earlier trial court decision and remanded...

There was the annual Polk County Democratic Party Steak Fry yesterday, featuring every presidential candidate and many national Democratic figures donning ridiculous aprons to cook steaks for potential voters. It was an interesting scene. At the recent CNN town hall on climate change, most of the Democratic candidates who were cooking and eating steak lectured the rest of us on our eating habits; In short, we eat too much meat.Washington Free Beacon: "As a nation, we actually have to have a real priority at highest level of government around what we eat and in terms of healthy eating because we have...

Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s proposed wealth tax may create a new incentive for rich couples to divorce to avoid the tax, according to Harvard economist N. Gregory Mankiw. Warren’s plan would impose a 2% annual tax on wealth over $50 million and a 3% tax on wealth over $1 billion. If a wealthy couple is worth $100 million, they would pay a 2% tax on any wealth over $50 million, which in their case would amount to $1 million a year. If they divorce and split their fortune in half, they would each be worth $50 million and neither would owe...

As Greta Thunberg and thousands of youth activists worldwide participate today in the largest Youth Climate Strike to date, educators like me see the primal-scream-worthy subtext: Students have realized that to secure their future, their best option is to leave school grounds. Never was there a clearer sign that our schools must do better on climate change. A little over a year ago, I left the 9th grade biology classroom, my home and passion for six years, because I did not have the time and support to help young people address the one issue that will affect them the most....

Comedy specials have become a bugle call for herds of people looking for reasons to be offended and to demand the end of a celebrity’s career. They have also become a “safe space” for people who like to laugh at politically incorrect humor and provide relief from a life where saying what you really mean is incredibly risky. Bill Burr’s “Paper Tiger” is no exception, delivering a swift kick straight into the hornet’s nest of strident feminism. In his hour-long Netflix special, Burr is undaunted by the recent backlash against all forms of comedy by people who seem affronted by...

Food Network star and New York City chef Carl Ruiz died suddenly Saturday. The 44-year-old was the executive chef of La Cubana and a star of "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" and "Guy's Grocery Games." La Cubana, which he opened in New York's Meatpacking District this past June, told CBS News it will establish The Carl Ruiz Scholarship Foundation in his honor. The restaurant added that it was "deeply saddened" by the news of his death. "No words can fully express our sadness at the sudden loss of our dear friend and brother. Beyond his immense culinary talent, Carl's larger-than-life personality...

Nashville is becoming an increasingly popular road trip for SEC fans. The Music City is still learning how to properly handle being invaded by SEC football fans. LSU alum Taylor Martina had quite the amusing story to share on Twitter Saturday morning: Tigers fans had already drained one bar’s vodka supply before 10 a.m. Nashville local time. (That’s a lot of morning screwdrivers…)

he question begs to be asked: Why is the person who came forward with a story about President Trump and a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky still being referred to as a whistleblower? Inspector General of the Intelligence Community, Michael Atkinson, is a Trump appointee. Allegedly he found a reason to go forward with a complaint lodged against President Trump stemming from a conversation with Zelensky in July. The anonymous “whistleblower,” as it turns out, is not, in fact, a whistleblower. The complainant is essentially a gossipmonger. The person admits no direct knowledge of the conversation. Doesn’t that...

What happens when the world’s oldest travel company closes its doors? It leaves a lot of people very far from home and no clear way to get back. Thomas Cook collapsed overnight after 178 years of operation thanks to debt commitments that could not be met, leaving more than 150,000 people scattered across the globe with no way home and no paid accommodations. The legendary firm’s CEO issued an apology, but that alone won’t do much: Thomas Cook CEO Peter Fankhauser apologizes after the world's oldest travel company went into liquidation, leaving thousands of passengers stranded around the world. More:...

Despite the mainstream media continuing to insist that the President isn’t building any new border walls, sections of new or vastly improved “barrier systems†continue to appear as if by magic. And last week these efforts appeared to kick things up another gear, though you probably didn’t hear about it on most cable news outlets. The Department of the Interior is transferring more than 500 acres of federal land to the Department of the Army. The land will be used to begin construction on another 70 miles of border wall, so make room for the construction brigades, folks. (Epoch...
