  • Russia warns Google not to interfere in its upcoming elections

State communications regulators in Russia sent a letter to Google Sunday warning that election “interference” would not be tolerated. The missive seeks to discourage the ubiquitous search engine from disseminating information about “mass events, including those aimed at disrupting elections of federal and regional significance.” Among the government’s concerns are “push notices” that might help protesters and opposition parties organize rallies and political events. The country’s Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media warned there would be consequences for “interference” on Google’s behalf.

For the past few days, since reading and watching news about the film The Hunt, (now apparently canceled or delayed), I’ve been planning to write a piece focusing on the screenplay’s kill list of “deplorable” American conservatives. My initial primary resource was the official movie trailer itself. Now, in a two minute movie trailer, nothing is included by chance, not even one frame. Halfway through, a bulletin board is shown with photos of the deplorables who have been kidnapped for the hunt depicted in the movie. You will note that along with an evil rhino hunter and a tiki-torch-marching...

Listen to the two-beat sound at the very end of the clip. Reminiscent of the famous "doink-doink" from NBC's" Law & Order," no? Viewers would be forgiven for thinking that the ad airing on CNN's New Day this morning was indeed a promo for a TV crime show. Or a new version of All The President's Men. Or might it have been an anti-Trump attack ad from the DNC? It's not until the New York Times logo appears at the very end that it's seen to be a commercial for the newspaper, making the explicit commercial pitch ["the truth is...

Ten weeks of protests, some huge, a few violent, culminated Monday with a shutdown of the Hong Kong airport. Ominously, Beijing described the violent weekend demonstrations as "deranged" acts that are "the first signs of terrorism," and vowed a merciless crackdown on the perpetrators. China is being pushed toward a decision it does not want to make: to use military force, as in Tiananmen Square 30 years ago, to crush the uprising. For that would reveal the character of President Xi Jinping's Communist dictatorship, as well as Beijing's long-term plans for this semi-autonomous city of almost 7.5 million. Yet this...

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- When the press stops rolling at The Vindicator this month, a lingering question will once again taunt the residents of the Mahoning Valley: How much collapse can one region take? The family-owned newspaper announced in June -- just days after celebrating its 150th anniversary -- that it is permanently ceasing production on Aug. 31. Started in 1869 just months after Ulysses S. Grant was sworn into office, it has been run by the descendants of William F. Maag ever since he purchased it midway through Grover Cleveland's first term. The closure will cost 144 employees and 250...

People who enjoy eating venison need to bone up on bullets, if they haven’t already done so. The bullet makes the connection. The projectile launched from a rifle or handgun is the critical element, the one thing that separates wild-meat eaters from people who buy it at the market. And there are five things one should understand about bullets. 1. Boattails are best. With but a few exceptions that apply to taking large, dangerous game primarily on the African continent, the spire-pointed boattail bullet is the best choice for Western hunters, especially those hunting open country. This projectile is superbly...

Chicago "avoided tragedy" on Monday afternoon after police officers arrested a man who opened fire at the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center on the city's West Side, FBI Special Agent in Charge Jeffrey Sallet said. According to a spokesperson at the hospital, located at 820 S. Damen Ave., staff were told to shelter in place at around 2:18 p.m. The suspect, who was armed with an assault rifle, shot at the building initially, and then went inside the hospital, police said at a press conference. Authorities said the suspect fired both inside and outside but declined to answer just how...

August is perhaps the most dangerous month. It ushers in the dog days of summer when, as we first learned from Barack Hussein Obama, “everyone in Washington gets all 'wee-weed' up.” I’m still not completely certain what that means. We Weed Up!But I do know that if it’s August it’s going to be hot. And sure enough, the New York Times is all over this perennial story - Summer in the City Is Hot, but Some Neighborhoods Suffer More. I love the NYT writers, they are so committed to saving the planet they even recycle headlines. And hands down this...

There is a tool at the federal government’s disposal that was created in 1970 to take down mob bosses, mafia families and organized criminal enterprises — groups of people with a common ideology who made the United States less safe. The Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO) allowed the FBI and the Justice Department to hold accountable not just the low-level henchmen doing the dirty work, but the leaders and organizers behind desks who were making plans and issuing directives.

After the horrific mass shootings in El Paso and Dayton, a local news station in North Carolina wants to know if the state's two Republican senators will stand up to the NRA. "Do something!" the Capitol Broadcasting Company (CBC) wrote in a Monday editorial, urging Sens. Richard Burr and Thom Tillis to take swift decisive action to enact gun safety legislation. "Senators Richard Burr and Thom Tillis need to let the North Carolinians know who ranks at the top of their priority list," the CBC editorial urged. Burr has received just shy of $7 million from the NRA while Tillis...

In a feisty segment on Sunday’s “A.M. Joy,” Elie Mystal of Above the Law made an inflammatory comment in which he said white people who voted for Donald Trump should be destroyed. This came after a segment in which he argued there is no moral difference between avowed white supremacists and any white person who votes for Trump. In the clip, host Joy Reid asked how those who are “drugged” by the president’s rhetoric should be communicated to and convinced they are wrong. That’s when Mystal got even more heated, saying:

This is the start of what will likely be an extended — and utterly predictable — football soap opera playing out at The U. Instead of bringing it on and competing with Georgia transfer Justin Fields for the starting job, Tate Martell hightailed it out of Ohio State earlier this offseason and ultimately landed at Miami not long after. Granted immediate eligibility with the Hurricanes, and seen as a slight favorite to win the starting job, Martell instead saw Jarren Williams stake his claim as QB1 as Manny Diaz named the redshirt freshman the Hurricanes’ starter Monday morning.

Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem (Old Testament) 2 Kings 15 Jotham King of Judah 32 In the second year of Pekah son of Remaliah king of Israel, Jotham son of Uzziah king of Judah began to reign. 33 He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. His mother’s name was Jerusha daughter of Zadok. 34 He did what was right in the eyes of the Lord, just as his father Uzziah had done. 35 The high places, however, were not removed; the people continued to offer sacrifices and burn incense there. Jotham rebuilt the...

As China Looms, Vietnam Aims to Develop a More Modern, Skilled Navy By Ralph Jennings August 12, 2019 A Vietnamese military official advocates developing a more modern, better skilled navy that can hold off complex threats, mainly what experts believe to be increasing pressure from China. A rear admiral and political commissar in Hanoi told the official Viet Nam News August 6 that the navy could not be "taken by surprise at any development. "In this complicated situation that poses many threats to the country's defense and security, given the Navy's role as the key defender of the country's sovereignty,...

CNN’s Chris Cuomo erupted at a man who apparently called him “Fredo,” in a video that went viral Monday night. The encounter between Cuomo and the man happened at a Shelter Island bar on Sunday. “Punk-ass bitches from the right call me Fredo,” Cuomo told the man. “My name is Chris Cuomo. I’m an anchor on CNN. Fredo is from The Godfather.” “They use it as an Italian aspersion. Any of you Italian?” he continued. “It’s an insult to your f****** people. It’s like the N-word for us.” They went back and forth, and at one point Cuomo said, “I’ll...
