State communications regulators in Russia sent a letter to Google Sunday warning that election interference would not be tolerated. The missive seeks to discourage the ubiquitous search engine from disseminating information about mass events, including those aimed at disrupting elections of federal and regional significance.
Among the governments concerns are push notices that might help protesters and opposition parties organize rallies and political events.
The countrys Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media warned there would be consequences for interference on Googles behalf.

The funny thing is, Google will pay attention to the Russian warning. If they don’t, there won’t be a some silly threat of “government oversight”.
Google execs will just start disappearing.
