Democrats are running an interesting campaign so far. They’re promising “freebies†to everyone, which is normal for leftists, but they’re also offering salvation. “Vote against Trump’s racism or you’re a racist,†they say. When it comes to what that racism is exactly, they’re less clear. But these self-appointed Popes of politics stand ready to forgive your past sin of wrong-think if, and only if, you simply acquiesce to their every demand. If not, it’s open season on you. It’s a rather curious strategy, insisting those who don’t support you are just this side of Nazis, but when you couple it with...

Recently, while defending Democratic congresswoman Rashida Tlaib from charges of anti-Semitism over her Holocaust comments, Jeremy Burton, the head of Boston’s umbrella Jewish community organization, asserted a cartel monopoly for establishment Jewish leaders on the privilege “to determine what is, or is not, antisemitic.” “[W]e must insist,” he wrote, “that the mainstream of our own community gets to make that determination. Institutions and leaders who represent the sensibility of our community will call it as they see it, both on the left and the right.” As examples of sensible mainstream Jewish institutions and leaders who should be granted this exclusive...

Democratic presidential candidate and El Paso, Texas, native Beto O'Rourke said that President Donald Trump was a white nationalist after a mass shooting in El Paso on Saturday left 20 dead and a separate rampage hours later killed nine more in Dayton, Ohio. CNN's Jake Tapper on Sunday asked O'Rourke, a former El Paso congressman: "Do you think President Trump is a white nationalist?" "Yes. I do," O'Rourke said on CNN's "State of the Union." The Democrat also referenced Trump's record of insulting Mexicans as "rapists" and describing asylum seeking migrants as an infestation.

A nationwide poll has revealed that 89 per cent of 16- to 29-year-olds believe that their lives have no meaning or purpose. The poll, conducted by Japanese company Yakult and reported by The Sun, also found that 30 per cent of young people believe they are stuck in a rut with 84 per cent saying that they believe they are failing to “live their best life”. Across all age groups, over half (51 per cent) of those surveyed believe they were put on the earth to be as happy as they can be, whilst 37 per cent believe that it...

“What’s it like to be a seminarian?” It’s a question I heard often enough before my ordination. A complete answer was always difficult and now, given the present state of the Church, it’s only become more challenging. Like many others who closely followed last year’s USCCB meetings, I felt powerless in the face of these deliberations. However, after reading different interviews given by bishops over this past year I was particularly stuck by the comments from Bishop Daly of Spokane who gave voice to good faith-filled families. He said: These families, that continue to encourage their sons and daughters to...

I think I've found a solution to several major problems in the U.S. By far the largest greenhouse gas is water vapor, 86-90% according to the EPA. I propose we build giant dehydrators on the site of crumbling U.S. cities. The dehydrators would suck water vapor out of the atmosphere which would be piped to marginally productive lands and used to irrigate giant fields of Ponderosa pines, a tree exceptionally good at using carbon dioxide. People in the affected cities who are qualified would be kept in place to maintain the dehydrators. The others would be transported to the new...

An estimated half of Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of the Congo are going unidentified, the country's new Ebola response coordinator, Jean-Jacques Muyembe, has told reporters. "If we continue on that basis, this epidemic could last two or three years," Muyembe said at a Friday news conference in Goma, a city located on Congo's eastern border with Rwanda. He added that the current goal is to bring the detection rate to 80% by strengthening surveillance. The remarks came a day after Congolese authorities raced to contain the Ebola epidemic after a gold miner with a large family contaminated several...

Vatican City, Jul 31, 2019 / 09:25 pm (CNA).- The vice-president of the Pontifical John Paul II Institute in Rome said that changes to the school’s governing structure and academic program are a serious threat to its identity, and to the important pastoral ministry it supports. “It seems to me that the identity of the Institute is seriously threatened, so it is necessary to present, with respect but clearly, the objective problems within the recent changes, and warn of the danger to the original mission of the Institute, which Pope Francis has clearly said he wants to preserve, not just...

The ship was seized on Wednesday near Farsi Island, where an Iranian Guard Navy base is located, the news outlet reported. The island sits in the Persian Gulf between Saudi Arabia and Iran, north of the Strait of Hormuz. Further information on the vessel, and the nationality of crew members, was not immediately clear. The seizure marked the third such incident involving a commercial vessel in recent weeks — and the second accused of smuggling fuel. The U.S. Fifth Fleet, based in Bahrain, told The Associated Press it did not have information to confirm the reports. Maritime tracking experts also...

Is there such a thing as a flash-in-the-pan accusation of anti-Semitism? It would seem that in the case of Bernie Sanders, there is, or was. While being interviewed on Young Turks in early June, Sanders dismissed a piece about him in Politico, penned by Michael Kruse, as “an anti-Semitic article.” Was it a gut or knee-jerk reaction to criticism, or was it payback to Politico for reporting in March: “A spokeswoman for Bernie Sanders’ presidential campaign apologized…after questioning whether the ‘American Jewish community has a dual allegiance to the state of Israel’ -- a comment condemned by Jewish leaders across...

On October 1, 2017, America was stunned by the horrible mass murder in Las Vegas. The lengthy search for the murder's motive most likely ends in the bitter unconscious severe neurotic conflicts of Stephen Paddock's troubled mind. His obsessive-compulsively planned mass murder seemed intended to make his father's life of petty crime look like peanuts in comparison. Psychodynamically, Paddock’s horrendous act was an ultimate fantasied oedipal victory. As noted by Dave Phillips and Mathew Haag’s perceptive New York Times article of October 2, 2017, Benjamin Hoskins Paddock, Stephen Paddock’s father, was a grifter, con artist, bank robber and jail-breaker who...
