This is BBQ heresy but I submit to you a BBQ hack I discovered today. Cooked a 4 lb. butt in the crock pot with a 1/2 bottle of BBQ sauce for 7 hours then transferred most of it and a lot of the liquid into a disposable aluminum pan. Started 1/2 doz charcoal brickettes and a couple of pieces of maple off to the side in the grill and once that was going put the pan opposite on the grate and covered with the lid vent holes wide open. Stirred it three times in one hour then dumped it...

GALILEE – On Thursday evening, July 25, 2019, a major fire broke out at Mount Tabor, not far away from the Transfiguration Church. Fortunately, all residents, including the religious men, were evacuated from the area of the fire and no human causalities have been reported. However, the firefighting department in the area is still trying to contain the fire before it causes any damages to the surrounding churches. We ask everyone to send their prayers for the control of the fire and the safety of those affected. UPDATE: According to one of the Franciscan friars who lives at Mount Tabor,...

Attention: Due to poverty, drugs, gangs, violence, rats, pestilence, filth, disease in cities like Baltimore, LA, Chicago and other cities with murder rates higher than many countries south of our borders, America has been declared an "unsafe" country and can no longer be a safe haven for asylum seekers. They'll have to apply elsewhere. That is all.

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) has been frequently called a terrorist sympathizer for her strange remarks about Al Qaeda, her request for leniency for an ISIS recruit, and other troubling behavior, but now she has outright endorsed violence against a sitting government official on her Twitter account. Donald Trump Jr. pointed to an Omar re-tweet of unhinged anti-Trump comedian Tom Arnold from earlier today. The washed-up former husband of Roseanne Barr tweeted in celebration of the assault against Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) outside of his own home in 2017. Congresswoman Ilhan Omar retweeting calls for political violence against @randpaul. I’m not...

The Department of Justice announced the indictment of two Somali refugees Monday night, Ahmed Mahad Mohamed and Abdi Yemani Hussein, for attempting to join the Islamic State in Egypt. "According to the criminal complaint, the defendants had been in communication with an FBI undercover employee whom they believed was a supporter of ISIS ideology. These communications revealed the defendants’ desire to travel overseas in order to fight on behalf of ISIS or to conduct an attack within the United States if they were unable to travel," DOJ released in a statement. "Ultimately, the defendants purchased airline tickets to travel to...
  • Chris Matthews, Former Dem Rep. Edwards Blast Trump’s Rhetoric: ‘Hitlerian,’ From ‘Nazi Playbook’

Former Congresswoman Donna Edwards told Chris Matthews tonight that President Donald Trump is engaging in rhetoric from “the Nazi playbook,” after he said Trump’s rhetoric is “Hitlerian.” Matthews showed the clip of Fox News’ Chris Wallace telling Mick Mulvaney that the use of words like “infested” “sounds like vermin” and “sub-human.” He said the use of such rhetoric aimed at Congress members of color shows a pattern. After praising Wallace, Matthews said, “‘Infested.’ It’s ‘vermin.’ It’s a Hitlerian term… He’s obsessed with this thing about cities.”

Sitting on the crumbling porch of a small, boarded-up house where Malcolm X once lived, community activist Aaron Sims recalls Inkster as the place where African American workers on Henry Ford’s assembly line settled because they weren’t welcome in the nearby factory town of Dearborn. Sims describes several years of fighting to save the dilapidated home where the civil rights leader lived during part of his formative years, shares his hopes of turning the modest property into a museum for his small, struggling suburb and talks proudly of twice casting his ballot for Barack Obama, the nation’s first black president.

At the time, I puzzled over why this happened. I think the most likely explanation is that in the middle of a presidential term, when pollsters ask voters whether they approve or disapprove of a president, respondents are comparing the president to a theoretical alternative. If it is easy to imagine how a president might be better, or more in accord with a voter’s own views, the respondent is likely to tell the pollster that he disapproves. This changes once the president is running against a specific opponent. Now, a voter who is asked whether he approves or disapproves of...

U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., has unfollowed President Donald Trump on Twitter in the wake of attacks on Democratic congress members. “I’m unfollowing the President of the United States today on Twitter, because his feed is the most hate-filled, racist, and demeaning of the 200+ I follow, and it regularly ruins my day to read it,” Murphy tweeted Sunday morning. “So I’m just going to stop. I can’t believe I just typed that.” Democrats have condemned several of the presidents’ recent tweets as racist. Two weeks ago, Trump tweeted four Democratic congresswomen of color should “go back … (to) the...

Con Edison, New York’s energy company, released a statement Monday about its investigation into the cause of the Manhattan power outage, which affected at least 70,000 people in on the island’s west side for about five hours along a 40-block stretch earlier this month. “Our engineers have determined the root cause and taken steps to prevent a recurrence,” Con Edison said. “As part of our investigation, we reviewed 15 years of operating data and took equipment out of service at our 65th Street substation to conduct diagnostic testing, which allowed us to simulate the event. We identified a flawed connection...

As we hit exactly one year mark until the opening ceremony of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, the countdown has begun—and with that, the unveiling of the medals that the best athletes in the world will take home next summer. The medals boast the classic designs that fans see every four years as stipulated by the Interantional Olympic Committee, according to Tokyo 2020: Nike, the Greek goddess of victory; the name of the host city; and the five Olympic rings. What makes these medals special to Japan, though, is the public input and assistance that went into their creation. For...

Buddy. Confidant. Cat herder. Betsy Ebeling, 73, who was known as Hillary Rodham Clinton’s best friend and first childhood school chum, died Sunday in Arlington Heights after a long battle with breast cancer. Ebeling and Clinton had a long history together dating back to when they were sixth-graders at Eugene Field School in Park Ridge. “It’s so sudden because Betsy was always busy gathering Hillary and all of us who had been close — especially her Park Ridge school buddies, which she jokingly likened to herding cats,” said Kathy Burgess, a close friend. Ebeling was working on getting everyone together...
