MENLO PARK, Calif./BOSTON (Reuters) – Protesters carrying an inflatable angry emoji plan to greet shareholders of Facebook Inc as they gather for the company’s annual meeting on Thursday, the latest sign of its struggle to shake off user privacy scandals and rein in fake news and hate speech. The social media giant will again face demands for reform at Thursday’s meeting, including shareholder proposals that call for revamping the company’s voting structure and ousting Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg as chairman. The measures have little chance of succeeding, as a dual class share structure gives Zuckerberg and other insiders control...

Researchers the Obama administration funded to assist Common Core’s rollout recently found, to their surprise, that under Common Core U.S. student achievement has sunk (h/t Lance Izumi). “Contrary to our expectation, we found that [Common Core] had significant negative effects on 4th graders’ reading achievement during the 7 years after the adoption of the new standards, and had a significant negative effect on 8th graders’ math achievement 7 years after adoption based on analyses of NAEP composite scores,” the Center on Standards, Alignment, Instruction and Learning (C-SAIL) preliminary study said. “The size of these negative effects, however, was generally small.”...

Thursday on MSNBC’s “The Last Word,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal (D-CT) argued that given most Americans will not read Department of Justice special counsel Robert Mueller’s report, they needed “to see the movie,” which Blumenthal said would come in the form of congressional hearings. “I read every word of the Mueller report,” Blumenthal said. “In fact, I read it twice. Most American people will never read the Mueller report. They need to see the movie because they`re not going to read the book. And that`s why we do need hearings now. And I agree completely with Senator Warren that president needs...

THE furry star of the 2019 remake of Pet Sematary has died just weeks after the movie was released. Leo the Cat captured audiences' hearts in the film adaptation of Stephen King's 1983 novel. His mysterious death was confirmed by animal trainer Kirk Jarrett on Leo's Instagram account, after he adopted the cat shortly after filming. He wrote: "It is with great sadness that we tell you that Leo has passed away. "He will be forever missed by his human and fur family. May his star always shine bright." The Maine Coon cat was one of four felines used to...

May 29, 2019 by Msgr. Charles Pope A Word of Encouragement for Discouraged Cultural Warriors It is, on occasion, discouraging to live in times like these. This appears to be the end of an era, at least in the West. Our culture used to be called Christian or Judeo-Christian. It was not sin-free by any means—there was still greed and there were various forms of oppressive justice—but Christ and the Scriptures were the basis for a consensus on fundamental moral norms. It is hard to argue that our sense of justice enshrined in law over the centuries does not have...

Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg is facing a vote calling for him to stand down at the firm's annual shareholder meeting, being held today. It comes after calls for the CEO to stand down as chairman of the board and appoint a new successor. The move is unlikely to pass without Zuckerberg's agreement, however, as he controls 58 per cent of the vote.

VIDEO Robert Mueller could not say that President Donald Trump did not obstruct justice despite finding no evidence showing that he obstructed justice over a crime that DID NOT HAPPEN, namely Trump-Russia collusion. However, as you will see here, we do have proof that Robert Mueller OBSTRUCTED JUSTICE which is obvious by him disingenuously acting stupid in 2013 when answering questions from Congressman Jim Jordan about the IRS scandal involving their denial of tax exemptions for Tea Party affiliated groups.

One way of envisioning the Democratic obsessions with Donald Trump is as an addiction. We have seen the initial impeachment efforts; the attempt to get him under the emoluments clause, the Logan Act and the 25th Amendment; the Russian collusion hoax; the Mueller investigation; the demand for his tax returns; and the psychodramas involving Michael Avenatti, Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels. Relentless progressives have needed a new Get Trump fix about every two months.

A Florida high school teacher raised eyebrows this week after allegedly writing “WTF is this?” on a student’s homework. Melinda Smith, the student’s mother, told Panama City’s WJHG on Tuesday she was shocked when her son showed her his science homework with the comment: “WTF is this? absolutely no credit” written on top

Do we even need to go down the numerous foul-ups over the Russian collusion myth? So, what happened now during Trump’s most recent trip to Japan? Oh, well, he wanted the U.S.S. McCain to be obscured or something (via WaPo): And now the Navy Chief of Information: “The name of USS John S. McCain was not obscured during the POTUS visit to Yokosuka on Memorial Day. The Navy is proud of that ship, its crew, its namesake and its heritage.”

Robert Mueller should have been disbarred decades ago, along with his enforcer Andrew Weismann; that is how egregious his record of malfeasance is, all matters of public record. What he did Wednesday morning was his final IED tossed at the President to placate his Democrat overlords who desperately want to impeach Trump. But for what? Mueller gave no list of felonies in his report nor did he detail any crimes of which Trump is even amorphously guilty.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren was one of the earlier 2020 candidates to propose breaking up the largest tech companies and potentially having the government regulate them like utilities. It’s a mantra she’s repeated on the campaign trail on a regular basis. But now she’s doubling down on the message with a campaign tactic that may not make the most sense. Her team has put up a massive billboard on the subject, which isn’t all that unusual for a political campaign. It’s the location that makes it peculiar. She put it up right in Silicon Valley near many of the Big...

Cheap renewables won’t stop global warming, says Bill Gates “Electricity is just 25 percent of greenhouse gas emissions,” said Gates. “There is no substitute for how the industrial economy runs today.” When financial analysts proposed rating companies on their CO2 output to drive down emissions, Gates was appalled by the idea that the climate and energy problem would be easy to solve. He asked them: “Do you guys on Wall Street have something in your desks that makes steel? Where is fertilizer, cement, plastic going to come from? Do planes fly through the sky because of some number you put...

She tried to slip one past border supporters… Last week, we reported on a dirty trick Nancy Pelosi was trying to pull on the American people. At the last minute, with a week-long vacation looming and an empty House, she tried to push through a massive spending bill. The money would go toward disaster-hit regions, but they cut out ALL funding for the border crisis. A lone Texas Republican shocked Democrats by stopping their vote. They couldn't try again while on vacation, right? Well, apparently Pelosi thought she could sneak it through after all the Republicans went home. So she...

Former second lady Jill Biden promised an end to her husband Joe Biden’s alleged inappropriate behavior Wednesday during an appearance on The Daily Show. She also praised the “courage” of the women who made complaints against the former vice president. “It took a lot of courage for women to step forward and say, you know, ‘You’re in my space. Joe heard that. And it just won’t happen again,” she told The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah. “He heard what they were saying.” Former Democratic Nevada Assemblywoman Lucy Flores was the first of several women to accuse Biden of inappropriate behavior during...

US President Donald Trump has told reporters that he will meet with “a lot of the Irish officials” when he visits Doonbeg in Clare next week. Trump was asked about his upcoming visit — the eighth by a serving US President — by RTÉ’s Brian O’Donovan earlier today, saying he was “looking forward to” his one-night stay on 5 June. “We’re going to be staying in Doonbeg in Ireland because it’s convenient and because it’s a great place, but it’s convenient,” Trump said. “We’ll be meeting with a lot of the Irish officials, and it’ll be an overnight stay and...
