I lived in the Bible Belt when I was an atheist. Was I discriminated against? I don't know. Maybe. I do know that the service industry jobs I applied for were always happy that I was willing to work on Sundays. Discrimination was a term I never thought about in regards to myself. I guess I was more self-sufficient and confident than today's atheists. Definitely more so than those who live in Portland, Oregon. Apparently, the 42 percent of Portland residents who identify as atheist, agnostic, or a religious "none" have been suffering under a great wave of persecution in their...

A suggestion by Ravil Gaynutdin, the head of the Union of Muftis of Russia (SMR), that the share of Muslims in Russia will rise from seven to 30 percent in 15 years and the even more radical prediction by Orthodox Archhpriest Dmitry Smirnov that Muslims will displace Russians by mid-century have touched off a media firestorm in Moscow. Mufti Gaynutdin is not noted for radicalism, and his views as expressed to a Duma conference on Islam, were relatively calm; but Father Dmitry, head of the synod’s department for family affairs, is notorious for his extreme comments. The reactions to their...

WASHINGTON—A federal court in Washington ruled Thursday that an Obama administration policy seeking to address the high proportion of black and Hispanic children in special-education classes must go into effect. The Trump administration attempted to delay the rule’s implementation last year, which would require school districts not to place disproportionate numbers of minority students—either too many or too few—into special-education tracks or isolated settings at school. The rule was originally set to take effect in July 2018, before the Trump administration delayed it. The federal judge, Tanya S. Chutkan, an Obama appointee on the District of Columbia district court, argued...

Last Friday, Perry High School in Gilbert, Ariz., suspended student Logan Jones after a security officer reprimanded her as she posed for photos in a "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) sweater while holding a pro-Trump "Make America Great Again" flag. On Wednesday, Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF) sent a demand letter warning of legal action unless the school dropped the suspension. The school agreed to allow Jones to return to school that day but it refused to remove the suspension from her record. "Public schools have a duty to respect the legitimate free expression of students that the First Amendment guarantees...

South Korea and the U.S. on Friday formally signed a deal on Seoul's increased payment for the U.S. troop deployment, amid worries about the future of the countries' decades-long military alliance. President Donald Trump earlier pressured Seoul to increase its share, triggering concerns in South Korea that he might withdraw some of the 28,500 U.S. troops here if Seoul refused to accept his demand. Experts say Trump will likely again apply pressure when the two countries meet in coming months to determine Seoul's contribution next year. South Korean Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha and U.S. Ambassador Harry Harris signed the new...

Tommy Robinson is, one could say speaking loosely, being turned into a non-person. Oh, he still lives and breathes and walks and talks; though when he talks now, fewer hear him. He surely can still mount a soapbox and opine on a street corner — until the hate-speech cops haul him away. Mind you, it wouldn’t be the first time he was hauled away.

What was once parody is the new reality.  The Olympic committee has announced that it will allow transgender athletes to compete.  Recall this hilarious National Lampoon magazine cover referencing the dubious Soviet female Olympic athletes of 1976.  Remember that some other countries will do anything to win Olympic gold. Men's greater muscle mass and skeletal density make them better competitors than women, even if they take female hormones and grow long hair.  There's a reason for women's sports — because otherwise, men would always win. Now that the International Olympic Committee is going to allow "transgendered" men to compete, the Olympic games are going to be flooded with...

One of the fundamental differences between liberals and conservatives is how both view the Constitution. Conservatives believe that adhering to constitutional principles. if not the letter and spirit of the document, should be the guiding force of government. Liberals, on the other hand, see the Constitution as an impediment - something to be gotten around. Keep that difference in mind when you hear what former Attorney General Eric Holder had to say about the Supreme Court. Daily Beast: Former Attorney General Eric Holder said Thursday that the next Democratic president should “seriously†consider adding additional seats to the United...

See Also: The Omar Affair is a turning point, by Thomas Lifson If Democrats thought that 'censoring' Ilhan Omar for her anti-Semitic statements was the way to get her to stop, they've got another thing coming. Actually, their repulsively watered down resolution, explicitly triggered by her claims that Jews hypnotize the world, Jewish money ("all about the Benjamins, baby") controls U.S. politics, and U.S. Jews have dual-loyalties to Israel, has only emboldened her to step up new lines of attack, this time slamming the sincerity of people who really are concerned about anti-Semitism, calling it "faux." Judge T.S. Ellis, a Reagan appointee to the Federal District Court for Eastern Virginia, is well-known for speaking his mind. Yesterday, in sentencing Paul Manafort, he rebuked Team Mueller’s harsh sentence recommendation of 19-24 years’ imprisonment as “excessive,†and instead set a lot of progressives’ hair on fire by imposing a sentence of 47 months, and recommended counting the nine months of time served (much of it in solitary confinement, imposed by Judge Amy Berman Jackson in a separate case in DC District Court) against that total, meaning just over three years of imprisonment. Paul Manafort's mug shot -...

It may be hard to imagine towering Tyrannosaurus rex as tiny, but the toothy Cretaceous giant didn't spring from an egg fully grown. In fact, T. rex hatchlings were about the size of very skinny turkeys, with "arms" that were longer in proportion to their tiny bodies than in adults. And each baby T. rex was covered in a coat of downy feathers. What's more, T. rex's feathers likely grew along the animal's head and tail into adulthood, according to new reconstructions that represent the most accurate models of the dinosaur to date. These and many more T. rex surprises...

Ruud Koopmans, professor at the Berlin Social Science Center and author of several books including Contested Citizenship: Immigration and Cultural Diversity in Europe, told the Danish newspaper Berlingske that whereas most groups of migrants integrate relatively quickly, especially from one generation to the next, Islam stands out as an exception.

Shimmying through a maze of dark tunnels below the Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá on Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, archaeologists have rediscovered a long-sealed cave brimming with lost treasure. According to an statement from Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), the cave is stockpiled with more than 150 artifacts, including incense burners, vases, and decorative plates adorned with the faces of ancient gods and other religious icons. The trove is believed to be just one of seven sacred chambers in a network of tunnels known as Balamku — "Jaguar God" — that sits below Chichén Itzá, a city that...

SpaceX’s unmanned Crew Dragon capsule has splashed down in the Atlantic Ocean after its historic DEMO-1 test flight to the International Space Station. The capsule, carrying a dummy dubbed ‘Ripley,’ made its return to Earth after undocking from the ISS early Friday. After plunging through the Earth’s atmosphere, Crew Dragon deployed its parachutes and splashed down at 8:45 a.m. EST. The six-day test flight is a crucial step in SpaceX’s plan to provide human spaceflight. Lessons learned from DEMO-1 should improve safety when two NASA astronauts strap into a Dragon as early as July.

It finally happened on Thursday night, and if you own a Twitter account you could watch it first-hand: the KKK and the Muslim Brotherhood met each other like a snake head discovering its tail, united in their hate of Jews. Ah, the Jerusalem Mufti must be dancing in his grave. At 8:02 PM, Thursday, Grand Wizard David Duke tweeted: “By Defiance to Z.O.G. Ilhan Omar is NOW the most important Member of the US Congress! America First!” In case you don’t enjoy following neo-Nazi popular conspiracy theory, Z.O.G. is short for Zionist Occupation Government, the unified field theory of Jew...

It was early February and it had been a long week. It’s winter in Minneapolis, so every week is a long week. But those last few days had felt endless. Padding into the bathroom in my gray adult onesie, I cranked the tub’s faucet to its hottest setting. Water at this temperature would have effectively boiled me until I was as bright as a giant pink Easter egg. Who cared. It was going to snow forever. I applied a charcoal peel-off face mask. I poured myself a glass of $6.99 rosé from Trader Joe’s, because I know how to treat...

Could it be that Facebook is turning into social media's retirement home? Although that question might seem a little bit far-fetched, young people are leaving the social network in droves while increasing numbers of over-55s are signing up. In general, Facebook is struggling to retain its user base and today the social network has an estimated 15 million fewer users in the U.S. than it did in 2017. That's according to data released on Wednesday by Edison Research which shows that 67% of the population aged over 12 used Facebook in 2017, a figure that stands at 61% today. Young...
