A large roundup of Iraqi Christians by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been met with widespread criticism toward President Donald Trump, who previously pledged to protect such communities from persecution in the Middle East. Dozens of Iraqi Christians and other immigrants were seized over the weekend in a series of ICE raids, many of which took place in Michigan, a state known for its large Middle Eastern population. Those arrested face risk of deportation back to their home countries, some of which Trump had previously criticized as being hostile toward Christians. Many of the detained are facing years-old charges...

Oscar-winning director John G. Avildsen, whose “Rocky” sent a shot of adrenaline through movie theaters and turned Sylvester Stallone into one of cinema’s most unforgettable boxers, has died at 81. Avildsen’s eldest son, Anthony, said the filmmaker died of pancreatic cancer at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. With rousing music and sentimental scripts, Avildsen was a master at ennobling and lifting the underdog into states of grace. He won best director for “Rocky” (1976), the tale of Rocky Balboa’s gritty and unlikely transcendence from the streets of South Philadelphia, and was also known for “The Karate Kid” (1984), the story of a...

A news report today sent Washington into another spasm when it appeared that ABC and other news outlets reported that Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein confirmed that he might have to recuse himself from any further involvement in the Russian investigation. While the news account has not been verified, there is actually very good reason for Rosenstein’s recusal. Moreover, any recusal by Rosenstein would add questions about the status of Special Counsel Robert Mueller himself.

Last week head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk visited Washington where he participated in the World Summit of Christian Leaders in Defense of Persecuted Christians. He also met with US Vice President Michael Pence and the country's influential religious figures. Head of the Synodal Department shared his impressions with Interfax-Religion in his interview. - Your Eminence, your visit to the USA coincided with the period when contradictions between our countries aggravated. Did it somehow influence the themes and atmosphere of your conversations with American leaders?- It didn't. On the contrary, I saw that...

A Democratic consultant from Union County says that he refuses to apologize for Twitter posts he made with the hashtags #HuntRepublicans and #HuntRepublicanCongressman. “Sometimes you have to push them back,” says Jim Devine, a Democratic strategist from Rahway. But sometimes the pushback turns into violence, according to top leaders in the New Jersey State House. “The people who are serious threats, it’s unlikely they’re going to give you a heads up,” says Assembly Republican Leader Jon Bramnick. Politicians say that they are particularly concerned after House Majority Whip Steve Scalise and three others were shot at a GOP baseball practice...

CNN chief Jeff Zucker blamed President Donald Trump for endangering reporters in the legacy media. According to an Associated Press report, Zucker said “the level of threats faced by his journalists is more serious than people realize,” and “he lays the blame squarely at the feet of” Trump and “other politicians he says try to delegitimize the press.” Zucker reportedly spoke about the anti-CNN chants at Trump’s rallies and a Guardian reporter being body-slammed by then-Republican Montana House candidate Greg Gianforte, who won his race a day after body-slamming the left-wing reporter. “This is what happens when you try to...

The Queens woman who was offered a steak dinner after staff said her $43 million win at a slot machine was the result of a glitch is suing the casino for the entire jackpot. Katrina Bookman in August posed for a selfie at New York’s Resorts World Casino in front of the “Sphinx Slot Machine,” its screen promising her a grand prize of $42,949,672.76. When she attempted to collect her cash, however, casino employees told her she hadn’t actually won and offered her a complimentary steak dinner and $2.25 — the prize they claim her slot machine actually should have...

Next Thursday, Washington sculptor James Kelsey will unveil Piss Trump, a giant photography piece depicting Donald Trump naked, crucified and suspended in a tank of piss. Kelsey says it's not totally his intention for Piss Trump to be inflammatory. "I want the unveiling to be a catharsis for us," he says. "Not another reason to express anger." Piss Trump resembles Andres Serrano's 1987 Piss Christ, a photo of a ghostly crucifix tinted yellow by the dark urine in which its submerged. The controversy over Piss Christ was exacerbated when the work won an award that was partly funded by the...

In a never-ending battle of freedom versus authoritarian censorship, Evergreen College took center stage once again Thursday as the lawless Antifa gang faced off with the pro-Trump group Patriot Prayer and officers in riot gear. Even the presence of riot gear-clad officers wasn’t enough to keep lawless Antifa anarchists from attacking the peaceful free speech demonstrators and assaulting the event’s organizer, Joey Gibson, with pepper spray. The free speech rally came on the heels of a tumultuous few weeks at Evergreen College which started with an email from biology professor Bret Weinstein who responded he would not leave campus for...

Some conservatives have seized on Wednesday's shooting of Republican Rep. Steve Scalise and three others as the latest example of what they see as rising political violence from the left. Fox News' Sean Hannity accused Democrats of "dehumanizing" Republicans, and the right-leaning Washington Times ran an editorial by a Tea Party activist that called leftist protests "the first skirmishes of the second American civil war." But those who track extremism say that while there are a few far-left groups that raise red flags, their numbers remain small. Much of the conservatives' anger has been aimed at "Antifa" — short for...

... Evergreen faces a deeper, and more long-term threat. It is the only state four-year higher education institution to see enrollment drop steeply since 2011 despite wide-open admission standards. At about 4,080 students, it is about 300 students short of the Legislature’s funded enrollment target.

She’s one of the last surviving legends of Hollywood’s golden age. Her beauty and enigmatic smile saw Olivia de Havilland play alongside the biggest names of the silver screen – Errol Flynn, Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift. Off screen she was romanced by the likes of Jimmy Stewart, John Huston and Howard Hughes – and reportedly turned down the advances of John F Kennedy. She won two best actress Oscars in a career spanning six decades and 49 feature films – many of them considered to be classics.

While there remain some industry observers that cling to rapidly diminishing arguments against such deployment, “Apple devices are already pervasive in the enterprise,” Mahmoud Naghshineh, General Manager, Offerings and Solutions, IBM, told me. Naghshineh spoke to me as IBM expands its MobileFirst iOS for the enterprise scheme. He echoes Mike Brinker, Global Digital Leader, Deloitte Digital, who last year called Apple’s products “essential to the modern enterprise”.
