Legend has it that the District of Columbia was built on a swamp. Though only two percent of the area known as D.C. originally fit the definition of what can be called swampland, a lot of us think it fits that definition today. The expression “Drain the Swamp,” which has been traced to the beginning of the 20th century, is a metaphor for the ills that radiate from our nation’s capital. Washington for most of its history was a sleepy little town. It was meant to be that way. If you read David Brinkley’s outstanding Washington Goes to War, he...

During an Arizona speech delivered in Spanish, Sen. Tim Kaine cheered the demographic transformation of the United States caused by the nation’s federal immigration policies, telling his Latino audience on Thursday, “You are the future of America.” “By 2050, communities of color will represent the majority of our population,” Kaine said. “So, of course, Latinos will help shape the future of America because you are the future of America.” As the Pew Research Center has documented, this demographic transformation is largely the result of the changes to visa issuance policies enacted into law in 1965 that lifted the immigration controls...

A California man says a stranger hurled expletives and set his truck on fire Thursday after seeing a pro-Donald Trump sticker on the bumper. Hao Lee had taken his 2-year-old son fishing on a pleasant November afternoon in Sacramento. He parked his white Dodge Ram truck with a pair of Trump stickers on the bumper along Garden Highway. "About a couple hours into fishing I heard someone yelling out 'F' Trump," Lee told KTXL. Lee and his son were only about 50 yards from where his truck was parked, near the edge of the river. Their peaceful fishing trip was...

resident Obama ... used a private email alias to converse with Clinton at times, as well as corresponded with her on his specially-secured BlackBerry phone. Abedin told FBI agents she "had to tell the White House" every time Hillary Clinton changed her email address to make sure his device would accept it. Obama's presidential cell phone only accepts calls and messages from "whitelisted" sources, Herridge reported last week. The development may be "another admission that the White House understood [Clinton] was using this private server for government business, and that the president was OK with it... because they were allowing...

Just a day after new imagery surfaced of China’s “other” stealth fighter, the Shenyang FC-31, photos have emerged that give us the best look yet of the Z-20, Beijing’s shadowy H-60/S-70 Black Hawk clone. The Z-20, which has been an elusive beast since taking its first flight a couple years ago, differs from the Black Hawk in a number of small ways. Noticible changes include the cockpit area shaping, changes to its tail configuration, and above all, its rotor design. The Z-20 has five rotors instead of the four found on the Black Hawk. A satellite communications array, or at...

A temporary worker for the Broward County Supervisor of Elections Office in Florida has alleged in a sworn affidavit... that she was fired ... after witnessing possible absentee ballot fraud by office workers. But the State Attorney's Office concluded Friday that the workers were duplicating ballots by hand from damaged originals faxed by military personnel and that "there is nothing improper or illegal about the conduct" under state law.... "We were understandably alarmed about what she witnessed," Bob Nichols,.... general counsel for the Broward Republican Executive Committee, ... .[snip] Through the locked door's window,.... Watching the events of last week online I’m reminded of Drums Along the Mohawk a story about a couple in New York’s Mohawk Valley during the Revolutionary War. The New York frontier settlers fought off Tories, Indians, the British with a small militia, muskets, and grit until peace was restored and they could return to farming. A revolutionary war is being fought again in New York and D.C., this time between the administration’s corrupted Department of Justice, the compliant press and the Democratic Party on one hand, and the New York Police Department, the U.S. Attorney Preet Bahara, and the...

Registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein could face new criminal charges more than a decade after a 14-year-old's parents went to the police alleging the girl was paid to give the billionaire a massage. The 2005 investigation then led to accusations that he had abused as many as 40 young women, according to sealed documents from his plea deal in 2008 that were released seven years later. Epstein pleaded guilty to a state charge - soliciting prostitution from a minor - in exchange for a guarantee not to prosecute him in federal court. He served 13 months of an 18-month sentence....

Russia has indiscriminately targeted civilians since it intervened in Syria more than a year ago. It’s all part of a clear strategy to eradicate competing forms of governance and civil society in insurgent-controlled territory. Russia did not invent this method of warfare, but exercised it in Chechnya and now Syria. Deliberate, sustained air strikes on municipal buildings, schools, hospitals, food storage warehouses and water supply systems aim to render the opposition’s efforts at governing useless, to spread fear within local population, force it to flee and thus disconnect it from insurgent groups.

"I wasn't going to wait for Mr. Trump to get shot," John Atyeo, a Reno resident. "So I tackled the guy (Crites) to the ground." Atyeo tells us the scene was chaotic. A man shouted, "He had a gun," and that man ran like he was scared. There was never a gun. Instead, Crites tells us as he was pulling out his "Republicans Against Trump" sign and that people could have gotten confused. "It was split seconds," said Atyeo. "There was no time to think." "It was just a sign," said Crites. Crites was escorted from the convention center after...

This is what happens when you call in the cowboys to do an important job..... You thought you could trust the Tory Party. You thought you could ignore our rather good constitution and bypass it with a referendum... In May 2013, I pointed out the dangers of a referendum, asking: "Has Parliament been abolished? Has a constitution been quietly introduced, which demands that such issues are decided by plebiscite..... For years I explained that the only way out of the EU was to replace the Tories with a genuinely patriotic conservative party that could win an Election. The referendum proves...

CNN wants to move on from the recent scandal that revealed one of its paid contributors had shared questions from presidential forums in advance with Hillary Clinton's campaign. The network is declaring itself in the clear of any wrongdoing, though it is not addressing some key issues. "I can confirm we did an internal review," a high-ranking source at CNN told the Washington Examiner on Thursday. "The results are: Nobody at CNN did anything wrong."
