Blizzards, like the one that battered the East Coast this weekend, have doubled in number over the past 20 years. From 1960-94, the US had an average of nine blizzards per year. Since 1995, that annual average has risen to 19. And it's not just their frequency that's increasing. More blizzards are forming outside the normal storm season of October to March, scientists have found.

Cheryl Vickers almost got away it. She retired at 65 last year from the Houston Police Federal Credit Union. No one seeming the wiser to what she had done with at least $1.2 million. But the vice president for accounting's scheme was discovered after a customer came to the credit union with a "stale" check to request it be reissued. A stale check would be one issued months or years earlier by the credit union, but never cashed. The credit union found records that showed Vickers had already re-issued the customer's check .

A Harris County grand jury investigating allegations that a Planned Parenthood clinic in Houston illegally sold the tissue of aborted fetuses has cleared the organization of wrongdoing and instead indicted two anti-abortion activists behind the undercover videos that sparked the probe. Secret videographers David Daleiden and Sandra Merritt were both indicted on charges of tampering with a governmental record, a second-degree felony that carries a punishment of up to 20 years in prison.
