Atlanta Rhythm Section, sometimes abbreviated ARS, is an American southern rock band, formed in 1971. The band's current lineup consists of founding members keyboardist Dean Daughtry (who is the band's only constant member) and vocalist Rodney Justo, along with newer members, guitarists David Anderson and Steve Stone, and drummer Jim Keeling.
Career
The band was formed in 1971, by musicians who were former members of the Candymen and the Classics IV that had become the session band for the newly opened Studio One in Doraville, Georgia, near Atlanta in 1970. After playing on other artists' recordings, they decided to become a true band in their own right. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Rodney Justo, guitarist Barry Bailey, bassist Paul Goddard, keyboardist Dean Daughtry, and drummer Robert Nix. Guitarist James B. Cobb, Jr. joined the band in early 1972. Justo left the band after the first album and was replaced by Ronnie Hammond. Buddy Buie, the band's manager and producer, is listed first on almost all of their songwriting credits. Noted Christian Music artist and southern rocker Mylon LeFevre appeared on "Jesus Hearted People", from the band's album Third Annual Pipe Dream. Before they became founding members of Atlanta Rhythm Section, members of LeFevre's backup band included Barry Bailey, Paul Goddard, and Dean Daughtry.

This is funny. I saw the title and immediately looked to see if Whiskey X posted it.
Yup.
FYI, I’m in a classic rock band (been in several) and appreciate the posts. Better than the back of an album cover.
I’m actually practicing the set list for a new band as I saw this. Louisville based...
Wow. That brings back memories. Used to love ARS.
Apropos of not much, the song “So Into You” is not on this album, but I remember that it was popular at the time I read “The Andromeda Strain,” by Michael Crichton. I will always associate those two things, even though they have no intrinsic relationship..
If you don’t mind, which?
I’m kinda careful about specifics here other than people I know and then only in freepmail. Sorry. :-(
I fully understand.
For the record, I played bass as a teen in the ‘70s.
Neighborhood band stuff. We weren’t too bad.
Great post - a great album from one of the tightest bands that ever existed. “The Great Escape” is lesser known but might be the best song on that album. And while it’s not on this album, I also loved ARS’s cover of “Spooky” which was a lot richer than the original version by Classics IV (some of whose members morphed into ARS). J.R. Cobb’s and Barry Bailey’s guitars and Ronnie Hammond’s voice were great, but Paul Goddard’s bass is what really laid down “that Georgia Rhythm.” Cobb’s performance in “Another Man’s Woman” is one of the top rock solos of all time - pretty amazing for a bassist. It’s sad that all but one of the original members are gone now.
Give this a listen and wait for the second part of it. It's pretty amazing and even Stevie Nicks herself agrees that it is her voice. Except it wasn't!
I loved ARS back in the day.
:)
Seriously, it does sound a lot like her, although it feels
a bit weird thinking of her when it's really a man singing.
I work with a lady whose family owned the studio they recorded at.
If you play the 33 1/3 version of “Imaginary Lover” at 45 rpm, it sounds just like Stevie Nicks
So Into You....great guitar work...I can play that in my head just by thinking about it.
