BIRZEIT, West Bank — Lina Halsa certainly made a splash at the student rally for the Islamist Hamas movement here at Birzeit University last month. Wearing a sleeveless top, tight jeans, and with her hair in a ponytail, Ms. Halsa’s attire was revealing even by the standards of this liberal, secular campus. But it was downright scandalous according to Hamas norms. Yet, Ms. Halsa was the very image of Hamas success on the campus, where the Islamist party beat out the more moderate Fatah faction in student elections. A photograph of her waving the faction’s signature green banner rocketed around...

Jyllands-Posten, Lars Vilks, Charlie Hebdo, Pamela Geller… They really offended you with their cartoons of Muhammad, didn’t they? So offended, you think they deserve to die. To be murdered. To be shot down in cold blood. Guess what, I’m offended too. I’m offended when you organise Holocaust Cartoon Contests. I’m offended when you call me an ape and a pig. I’m offended when you spit on and burn my flag. I’m offended that you think “Mein Kampf” is worth reading – so much so that it’s on your bestseller list. I’m offended that you create TV-shows (for kids!) that portray...

.....Speaking of Fox News, the poor, and the way GOP leaders think, Obama said, [W]e’re going to have to change how our body politic thinks, which means we’re going to have to change how the media reports on these issues.” Here is the full transcript: I think that the effort to suggest that the poor are sponges, leeches, don’t want to work, are lazy, are undeserving, got traction. And look, it’s still being propagated. I have to say that if you watch Fox News on a regular basis, it is a constant venue. They will find folks who make me...

ConocoPhillips CEO Ryan Lance said Tuesday that the Obama administration’s decision to allow a competitor’s Arctic drilling program to move forward has provided some, but not all, of the clarifications they were looking in their own projects in the region. The U.S. government on Monday gave Shell’s $6 billion plan to explore for crude oil in the northern Chukchi Sea a preliminary OK, reviving exploration plans that have faced significant political, engineering and cost challenges. Lance said that the go-ahead given to Shell’s program has not resolved all of ConocoPhillips’ Arctic questions. “A lot of the [regulations] are still subject...

Complete Headline: Bill Clinton, in final 'Late Show' appearance, jokes he'll move back to the White House ... if Hillary lets him Bill Clinton hopes to be Hillary Clinton's First Man in the White House, but there's a big 'if" ... if she invites him to live at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. "If she wins the election, the chances are 100 percent that I'll move back," the former president told David Letterman Tuesday night on "The Late Show." "By the way, if I'm asked!" he added with a smile.

U.S. Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL), the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee’s Subcommittee on Western Hemisphere Affairs, issued the following statement regarding today’s announcement of the invitation for Mexico to join the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) negotiations: “Especially over the past decade, many Latin American nations have emerged as examples of the prosperity, security and opportunities that take root when free enterprise is embraced. By strengthening trade relationships with our partners in the Americas, we have helped strengthen democracies and created new consumers for U.S. products and services. “Mexico’s inclusion in Trans-Pacific Partnership negotiations is a welcome step that...

A number of foreign donors pledged new support for Clinton Foundation efforts during a conference in Marrakech last week, raising questions about the strength of Hillary Clinton's campaign promise to cut off foreign donations to her family philanthropy while she runs for president. The Kingdom of Morocco was among the foreign entities that committed to new projects at the Clinton Global Initiative event, which drew dozens of big-ticket donors to the country for a three-day meeting headlined by Bill Clinton. Hillary was slated to attend the Marrakech conference before her name was quietly removed from the schedule earlier this year...

There's been a slew of stories about Bill Clinton taking a back seat in Hillary's campaign.... the ex-president told Town & Country's April 7 edition that his role "should primarily be as a backstage adviser to her until we get much, much closer to the election." And yet, Bill is everywhere. With Hillary's refusal to give a media interview, to have an open campaign event with voters, Bill is the backseat driver of his wife's presidential campaign. Last week, Clinton gave the campaign's first interview of the presidential race to NBC.......(under fire for becoming rich through the Clinton Foundation's shady...

A Camp Pendleton-based Marine UH-1Y Huey helping with relief work after Nepal’s recent earthquake was missing, officials from the U.S. Pacific Command said Tuesday. Late Tuesday, the press agency Deutsche Presse-Agentur quoted an official as saying the aircraft had been spotted north of the capital of Kathmandu. “We have been told it was spotted in Tamakoshi region,” north of Kathmandu, said Interior Ministry spokesman Laxmi Dhakal. “But until (our) choppers make landing and get to it, we still can’t say anything about its condition or of its passengers.”

Forget for an instant – if you can– the ethics of negotiating with a terrorist state that is openly and brazenly holding U.S. citizens as hostages. After all, America’s formerly worst president, Jimmy Carter, did just that for 444 days. But Carter was negotiating the whole time to achieve the release of the hostages, not the rehabilitation of the Islamist regime that had taken them. Today, the Obama White House absurdly claims that Iran has “already been punished” for holding U.S. hostages — by being excluded from Obama’s presence. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker elevated the status of America’s forgotten hostages...

A California woman claims she was fired after disabling an app with a GPS function that was required to run on her company iPhone and tracked her 24 hours a day. Myrna Arias was working for money transfer service company, Intermex, last year when she claims her boss, John Stubits, 'bragged that he knew how fast she was driving' at certain times after she had installed the app, Xora, according to the lawsuit. She then objected to being monitored during non-work hours claiming it was an invasion of her privacy and 'likened the app to a prisoner's ankle bracelet'. Arias...

THE $90 million search for MH370 has discovered “man made objects” almost four kilometres under the surface of the southern Indian Ocean, but they are not the missing Boeing 777. Instead the debris is thought to be from an ancient shipwreck, comprising an anchor and other items. Australian Transport Safety Bureau Operational Search Director Peter Foley said they were “obviously disappointed” the discovery was not the missing aircraft.

With rising obesity, America faces an increased number of type 2 diabetes cases. With an aging Baby Boom generation, the country is bracing for an increase in Alzheimer's disease. Could the two be related? Previous studies have hinted at such a link. But researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis say they have nailed down the connection. Their study, using mice, found that elevated glucose in the blood – a primary consequence of diabetes -- can rapidly increase levels of amyloid beta, which shows up in brain plaques in Alzheimer’s patients. The buildup of these plaques is...

Progressives called ignorant, insincere, and motivated by politics, sparking fury among President's base President Obama’s performance in pushing for approval of fast track legislation of the Trans Pacific Partnership trade deal, in which he’s allied with Republicans and has spent the last week castigating and insulting liberal Democrats, has been one of the most bizarre and ill-advised performances of his presidency. I spent many years working for senior Democratic Senators such as Lloyd Bentsen and House Democratic leaders beginning with the legendary Speaker Tip O’Neill, and have never seen any president of either party insult so many members of his...
