During her opening monologue on “The Kelly File” Wednesday, Megyn Kelly delivered an impassioned defense of America, the First Amendment and the right to free speech — whomever it might offend. When she finished, Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz was so impressed he broke into applause. Kelly’s comments were in response to those who say Pamela Geller and her organization, American Freedom Defense Initiative, purposely tried to provoke radical Islamists by hosting the Muhammad cartoon-drawing contest in Garland, Texas: “The bottom line here is that some in this country have been so busy trying to figure out how to avoid...

In the Western popular imagination -- particularly the American one -- World War II is a conflict we won. It was fought on the beaches of Normandy and Iwo Jima, through the rubble of recaptured French towns and capped by sepia-toned scenes of joy and young love in New York. It was a victory shaped by the steeliness of Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower, the moral fiber of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and the awesome power of an atomic bomb.

A black South Carolina man was in serious condition Friday after being shot by a white deputy sheriff responding to his report of someone breaking into his house. Authorities moved quickly to try to calm tensions over the episode, which occurred in the same county as the April 4 police shooting of Walter Scott, an unarmed black man, and amid a furious national debate over police use of force in minority communities. "We're as sorry as we can be," Charleston County Sheriff James Alton Cannon Jr. said in a Friday meeting with community leaders. "What makes this even more of...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: The Washington Post, however, has a story with the headline: "Whole Foods is Learning that Millennials Aren't Who it Thought They Are." I think a lot of people are starting to figure this out. "For years, Whole Foods has thrived by selling pricey food with a promise that it is better for you, better for the planet, and better overall. The mantra has proved so successful that it has helped the high-end supermarket chain to expand from its flagship store in Austin, Texas, to more than 400 locations. In the summer of 1994, President Bill Clinton had the unfortunate experience of trying to manipulate Pope John-Paul, who had worked as a dynamiter in a Nazi stone quarry. Pope tells President, "you can't kill babies". President smiles blandly—for a minute, presidential aide comes up behind him to distract him with some "important presidential business", President gets a grimace of anger after one minute, his ears start turning red. President Hillary, you'd better hope that Bishop Emmanuel Badejo doesn't become Pope after Francis. He deals with Boko Haram—you know, the people you won't help him with unless Nigeria accepts abortion and...

New human diseases should be given socially acceptable names which do not offend people and countries or mention animals, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said. It has produced advice for scientists and the media on choosing names. The WHO says Middle East Respiratory Syndrome and Spanish Flu are examples of what to avoid because they mention specific locations. Instead, names should contain generic terms that are "easy to pronounce". The WHO said several new human infectious diseases had emerged in recent years and some had stigmatised certain cultures, regions and economies. Dr Keiji Fukuda, assistant director general for health...

Andrea Sastre doesn't mince words when it comes to the four former Guantanamo detainees camping in front of the U.S. Embassy in an increasingly bitter protest. Their grievances run the gamut, from demands that America compensate them to frustration over not being able to subscribe to Netflix in their adopted home. "As a Uruguayan, I'm annoyed at these men," said Sastre, a real estate agent. "They want a house. They want food. And they want it all to come from on high. It's a pipe dream."
