For the first time in war, coalition troops enter port city of Aden; more on their way Saudi Arabia led at least 20 ground troops into Aden, Yemen Sunday to support loyalist militia fighting rebels, an official said. “A limited coalition force entered Aden and another force is on its way” to the southern port city, said the government official and militia commander. The Saudi-led coalition has been conducting an air war against the Houthi rebels and their allies since March 26 but this is the first reported ground deployment inside the country.

ou know Hillary Clinton’s voice, right? I mean, you know it. It’s just so loud and annoying. Or maybe it's like a nagging wife. Or inauthentic—that phony Southern accent! Those flat Midwestern vowels! Whatever it is, her voice is burned into your brain. Now think of Jeb Bush’s voice. It’s so—wait, what does it sound like again? He sounds just ... like a guy, maybe? It's probably hard for you to recall distinguishing features about most of the Republican candidates. Maybe you don’t know what Ted Cruz sounds like, except that he sounds like a jerk. Why? In part it's...

A shallow magnitude 3.9 earthquake was reported Sunday morning one mile from View Park-Windsor Hills, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The temblor occurred at 4:07 a.m. PDT at a depth of 5.6 miles. The quake was classified by the USGS as "light" but was felt over a wide area of the L.A. basin. The Los Angeles Fire Department said it had received no reports of damage. A 3.5 quake rattled the same general area on April 12. Both quakes were centered on the Baldwin Hills/Inglewood border. The Newport-Inglewood fault runs along that area.

VIENNA (AP) — Members of a nationalistic Russian bikers club were greeted by cheering supporters as they laid a wreath Saturday at a monument to the Soviet soldiers who liberated Vienna from the Nazis. The pro-Kremlin Night Wolves are commemorating the Russian and Allied defeat of Nazi Germany 70 years ago in World War II with a ride from Moscow that is meant to end in Berlin May 9. Some EU officials have expressed criticism of their plans and Poland denied them entry, reflecting strains between Warsaw and Moscow over Russia's role in the Ukraine conflict. In contrast, their reception...

It just is unseemly. It is not just the Clintons, but the Clintons are the most visible purveyors of the activities. No one wants our ex-presidents or vice-presidents living in poverty, but we provide a nice pension and some really capable staff. Trading on your elected position after being in national office just seems so – tawdry. Tawdry is much a term out of fashion, but befitting the situation. It is defined as “showy but cheap and of poor quality.” Unseemly, which is defined as “not proper or inappropriate” can also be used here. But neither term seems to fit...

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Sadness and disappointment gripped Filipinos after Manny Pacquiao's defeat in his much-anticipated fight against American Floyd Mayweather Jr. but they still considered the boxing icon a national hero. Gymnasiums and other public venues where the 12-round fight was shown for free on Sunday lunchtime local time were quickly vacated after it was announced Pacquiao lost by unanimous decision. Herminio Coloma, a spokesman for President Benigno Aquino III, said "the country still holds its head high in the admirable fight of our National Fist."(continued)

"It's time to end the era of mass incarceration," Hillary Clinton proclaimed in a scheduled criminal-justice speech Wednesday that gave her the opportunity to address sentencing reform in the context of the troubles in Baltimore. It was a lukewarm effort in keeping with Hillaryland rules. Say as little as possible. Offend no interest group. Let handlers alert the media that the candidate is engaging in a big policy shift that is bound to attract young voters, even if the big policy shift leaves out specific positions on, say, marijuana legalization or the death penalty. I don't think it was smart...

Gerrymandering -- drawing political boundaries to give your party a numeric advantage over an opposing party -- is a difficult process to explain. If you find the notion confusing, check out the chart above -- adapted from one posted to Reddit this weekend -- and wonder no more. Suppose we have a very tiny state of fifty people. Thirty of them belong to the Blue Party, and 20 belong to the Red Party. And just our luck, they all live in a nice even grid with the Blues on one side of the state and the Reds on the other....

In its coverage of Baltimore, the Fair and Balanced network had its world turned upside down. When there’s a riot going on, what channel do you turn to? Watch MSNBC if you want information packaged in the language and symbols that echo the story you already know to be true. Watch CNN for the bland dilution of information into items of mild interest, always footnoted to the official story. But, if this past week, you wanted to see the clash between the official story of white America and the actual lived experience of black Americans, watch Fox News. In prime time,...

The masses are spending their excess income elsewhere tonight, specifically $90-$100 per subscription to watch the Mayweather-Pacquiao fight, which is already on course to net $400M in PPV revenue. Many across the U.S. are watching the boxing match Avengers Age of Ultron Saturday Impacted By Mayweather-Pacquiao Fightat parties. What this means for Avengers: Age of Ultron is a lower than expected Saturday of $59M per industry estimates, a 30% decline from yesterday’s $84.46M. The first Avengers saw a Saturday dip of 14% back on May 5, 2012. Ultron‘s Sunday, per industry calculations, is looking at $47M, down 20% from Saturday...

A contingent of Orthodox rabbis from New York and New Jersey came and “told it like it is” outside of the US Supreme Court on the day of the “gay marriage” hearing. A larger group of 850 Orthodox rabbis publicly demanded the recusal of Justices Ginsburg and Kagan from the case.

Erbil, Kurdistan Region – The radical group of Islamic State has allocated several camps in the areas under its control in Mosul and Ramadi in northern Iraq and in the city of Raqqa in northeastern Syria, to train minors dubbed as “Ashbal al-Khilafa” (Cubs of the Caliphate) to carry out “jihadist” operations”, pro-IS media outlets reported. The so-called Caliphate’s Cubs are also trained to slaughter, assassinate, and physically and psychologically torture others. The youngsters are reportedly subject to training sessions of one month and a half, and are then dispersed among the suicide squads and bomb-making workshops.

I recall very well some years ago a landlord in a New York City housing court being fined big money because on several visits by inspectors the hallways in one of his buildings was strewn with trash. Leaving aside the issue that in all likelihood, the landlord’s big mistake was not paying off the inspectors like everybody else, his defense was that he paid a superintendent to pick up what trash the man could in addition to his other duties, and once a week on Saturdays he paid a crew to come in and clear the hallways and clean up....

When the story of a Missouri man drawing his gun to break up a fight between teenage girls popped up on my Facebook wall, I was intrigued by the responses. Many, including some who claimed to be highly experienced shooters, were critical of the good samaritan’s actions. If you can’t break up a fight between teenage girls without a gun, you don’t need to be intervening. Consider these tales of two fights, one gun, and two very different outcomes. The stories are amazingly similar. On April 26 at a skate park in In Farmington, Missouri, a fight broke out between...

You know who hated the Baltimore riots this past week more than anyone else? Bruce Jenner, that’s who. I guarantee he was ticked after all the orchestrated Diane Sawyer hullabaloo of how he loves to strut around in Donna Karan evening wear on Friday nights with just his “close friends” got drowned out by Baltimore snappin’, cracklin’ and poppin’. Yep, Jenner was so ticked I heard he had to have an emergency mani-pedi spa day and a little Lane Bryant retail therapy just to chillax. Which is completely normal according to they and them, so don’t laugh and definitely don’t...

[1]WASHINGTON — Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) said at a town hall meeting the minimum wage should be raised to $15 per hour and advocated for expanding Social Security benefits.“If one person is making $18 million and another person is making $118,000 a year, who pays more into Social Security? Neither, they’re paying the same because there is a cap upon which after you, at a certain level, you don’t pay anything more and that level is about $118,000,” Sanders said at the meeting in Washington.“If you lift that cap, and you don’t have to start at $119,000, you can...

The charity spent $30 million on salaries last year but not one cent on interns, unlike the Ford or Gates Foundations. What gives? Hillary Clinton may be running for president as a champion for the middle class, but the Clinton Foundation’s interns do not get paid. “Businesses have taken advantage of unpaid internships to an extent that it is blocking the opportunities for young people to move on into paid employment,” Clinton said at UCLA in 2013. “More businesses need to move their so-called interns to employees.” That doesn’t happen at her own business, the Clinton Foundation that Bill started...
