Prime Minister Tony Abbott has posted a video to mark the opening of the 44th parliament, saying the 'adults are back in charge', as he seeks to abolish the carbon tax. FEDERAL cabinet has ruled that Australia will not sign up to any new contributions, taxes or charges at this week's global summit on climate change, in a significant toughening of its stance as it plans to move within days to repeal the carbon tax. Cabinet ministers have decided to reject any measures of "socialism masquerading as environmentalism" after meeting last week to consider a submission on the position the...

NBC’s Lisa Myers profiled several people who are receiving health plan cancellation letters due to Obamacare Tuesday. For example, George Schwab of North Carolina, said he was “perfectly happy” with his plan from Blue Cross Blue Shield, which also insured his wife for a $228 monthly premium. But this past September, he was surprised to receive a letter saying his policy was no longer available. The “comparable” plan the insurance company offered him carried a $1,208 monthly premium and a $5,500 deductible. And the best option he’s found on the exchange so far offered a 415 percent jump in premium,...

In case you haven't noticed, including today, there are 20 days left until the clock on Obama's promise to "fix" the website runs out. What we've seen since he first promised the fix has been more hours of down time, and great problems. Therefore, I've decided to do a daily "countdown thread" for the next 19 days..so feel free to add comments, or links.

It is wrong, of course, to take pleasure in the misfortune of others. Still, I must confess that I have derived no small amount of schadenfreude from news stories about Obamacare advocates who have been adversely affected by the not-so-Affordable Care Act. It would take a stronger man than yours truly to suppress a smile as the law’s media pimps pule about their canceled health plans, when smug urban progressives get mugged by the reality of “reform,” and lifelong Democrats publicly denounce President Obama as a brazen liar while declaring their intention to become foot soldiers for the RepublicaParty. One...

TODAY, we honor the nation’s 22 million veterans, including more than 2.5 million who served in Iraq, Afghanistan and other fronts in the war against Al Qaeda. But we are turning our backs on hundreds of thousands of veterans who were discharged “under conditions other than honorable” and so do not qualify as veterans under federal law. Their discharges, which include overly broad categories encompassing everything from administrative discharges for minor misconduct to dishonorable discharges following a court-martial, nevertheless make them ineligible for the health care, employment, housing and education benefits offered by the Department of Veterans Affairs. Because of...

PALM BEACH COUNTY, Fla. (WPBF) –A mother said she is disgusted by a Facebook group where moms bash pictures of other people’s children. New mom Melissa Antenucci said she accidentally stumbled upon the group while visiting a Facebook page set-up to sell gently used baby clothes. She said group members copied pictures of other people’s children and posted cruel criticisms. Under one photo, one mom wrote, “You can absolutely not fix ugly. This is a God given example of such.” Another mother wrote, “An ugly baby thread. I have died and gone to heaven. Why can’t you guys live near...

President Obama’s foreign policy record remains intact. Across the world from which he is withdrawing American power and influence, governments are recognizing that where once a superpower resided, now only a shadow remains. First it was left to the Communist Chinese to admonish us against spending too much. Then they began a campaign to replace the dollar as the reserve currency of the world. The French led us into Libya because they needed to protect their oil interests there. Then Vladimir Putin bamboozled Obama into an agreement on Syria which goes against America interests by enabling Assad to remain in...

Veterans, we think about you all the time. Sometimes we fail to tell you. Today, on Veteran’s Day, we put our admiration for you into words. World War II, Korean and Vietnam Veterans We will start with you. You fought for our freedom. You watched your closest friends fall by your side and you were heartbroken, knowing it could have been you. You shoulder the burden of painful and haunting memories. Many of you have physical wounds; you sacrificed your warrior’s body for us, people you never met. You use a cane or a wheelchair now because of your choice...

Monday, November 11, 2013 Apologies from Utopia Posted by Daniel Greenfield @ the Sultan Knish blog Apologies, like postcards and encyclopedias, are another of those elements of our past being left behind in the detritus of the old twentieth. Obama's non-apology apology "I'm sorry that you're unhappy" is typical of the passive aggressive apology of the twenty-first. What was once character has become branding. What was once manners has become damage control. In the peculiar "I feel" grammar of the twenty-first century, "Sorry" has become ubiquitous and meaningless, it's the new "Eh" or "Is that so." The ubiquitous sorry assumes...

The cash-short United States Postal Service, which has failed to win congressional approval to stop delivering mail on Saturdays to save money, has struck a deal with the online retailer Amazon.com to deliver the company’s packages on Sundays — a first for both, with obvious advantages for each. For the Postal Service, which lost nearly $16 billion last year, first-class mail delivery, particularly on Saturdays, is often a money loser, whereas package delivery is profitable. The deal, announced on Sunday and taking effect immediately, in time for the holiday shopping season, gives the Postal Service a chance to take some...

The American health care system sucks. We pay more for health care than any country in the world and we only get average results. And tens of millions of Americans have no health insurance. Our latest attempt to address this situation, Obamacare, is a mind-numbing kluge of laws and policies that is off to a very rough start. And even if Obamacare ends up working, it will only fix part of the problem. The problem, as a ground-breaking article by Steve Brill made clear, is that America's health care providers and insurers treat people differently. If you're lucky enough to be...

Sacha Baron Cohen left the audience at an LA movie awards ceremony in stitches at the weekend with another outrageous prank. The Borat and Ali G funnyman was on stage at the BAFTA-LA Britannia Awards to collect the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy -and decided to prove he was a worthy recipient there and then. He was introduced by Judd Apatow and a series of clips of Charlie Chaplin was shown, including scenes with his "oldest living co-star" Grace Colington. SBC then pushed a wheelchair-bound Colington onto the stage, to an enthusiastic response from the audience. He...

Texas Gov. Rick Perry says that if Chris Christie runs for president, the GOP will likely have a conversation about the New Jersey governor’s ideology. “He was a successful governor in New Jersey? Now does that transcend to the country? We’ll see in later years and months to come,” said Perry in an interview that aired Sunday on ABC’s “This Week.”

Secretary of State John F. Kerry defended the Obama administration’s carrot-and-stick approach to nuclear negotiations with Iran, saying Sunday that the conciliatory strategy needs to be given a chance to work — while vowing that the U.S. is prepared to use force if necessary to keep the Islamic republic from developing a nuclear bomb. “We can’t let mythology and politics start to cloud reality,” said Mr. Kerry, who dismissed criticism that the administration has done a poor job leveraging American power in international talks — the latest round of which closed over the weekend without a breakthrough — over Iran’s...

Jon Voight on Obama. 2009 or yesterday? I stumbled across this video on YT and had watched it all the way through when I checked the comments. It was then I realised this was from 2009 ! I swear it could have been yesterday. Two amazing things about this video. 1. Jon pointed out a quote by Obama where he pulled the God card to get the evangelical vote on Obamacare (a major voting force in America and one that is said to decide a presidential race). 2. The quote at the end.

Newly re-elected New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie stepped firmly into the national spotlight Sunday, appearing on multiple news programs to combat criticism from some Republicans he is too moderate for national office and to take a swipe at President Barack Obama’s health-care law.

A Texas tussle could be on the 2016 horizon. Sen. Ted Cruz and Gov. Rick Perry are both angling to run for president. And the prospect of a clash between the two Texas-sized egos who represent different eras of the GOP – and who aren’t openly rivals but haven’t betrayed warm fuzzies for one another, either – has tongues wagging. “It would be the battle of the titans,” said Steve Munisteri, chairman of the Texas Republican Party. “They are both very popular here. Obviously Ted Cruz is riding a wave of immense popularity, but I think the governor has a...
