Facebook Comments About SCOTUS Obamacare Ruling Written on Sunday, July 1, 2012 by Ann-Marie Murrell 68 scotus Print Friendly The moment the Supreme Court ruling was announced like most social-media types, I was immediately on my Facebook and Twitter pages posting. I was going to write an article giving my personal thoughts and opinions but instead I want to share the actual posts of people throughout the United States, Canada and France who commented on the ruling. Pierre in Canada: “Average waiting time at the ER in Montreal, Canada…18 hours…” BeeGee: “I have experienced them [E.R.’s] in the Yukon, but...

Family tradition has it that my grandfather buried numerous hoards throughout the township, however we have only one set of clues. Whenever I searched for the hoard I usually swept the area with a metal detector in case any other treasures happened to be near. My father, who I believe was in the know, said that the location of the hoard was a clue to finding other buried caches - one of them in a barrow containing my grandfather!

I have done several searches, looked at several news sites. I can't find any news about where the president is today. On Drudge, I'm reading that DC has terrible problems after the storms. Where is the president? Does anyone remember how Bush was blamed after Katrina? Is Obama anywhere bringing comfort to the Beltway?

Despite what you may have read, experts insist there’s no flesh-eating bacteria outbreak in the United States. But if recent high-profile cases of necrotizing fasciitis have shed light on the disease, which affects about 15,000 people each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control, then more good than harm has been done, they say. Melissa Croucher is just happy to have her dad back. Melissa’s father, Tad Hawley, lost his leg to a flesh-eating bacteria around Easter. He became sick Sunday afternoon; the following afternoon, we were saying our goodbyes,” said Hawley’s daughter Melissa. It took only 32 hours...

Colorful Stars of David seem to decorate every other rickshaw crowding the streets of Dhaka. In the southern port city of Chittagong, a storefront advertises “Rabbi Foods.” And the country’s famous parliament building, the gigantic Jatiyo Sangsad Bhaban, was designed by a Jewish architect from Philadelphia. But if you’re looking for kosher hot dogs, felafels, gefilte fish or lox and bagels, don’t come to Bangladesh. Most online sources estimate there are no more than 75 or 100 Jews among the 160 million Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Christians squeezed into an area smaller than Wisconsin. And officially, at least, Bangladesh wants...

We conservatives keep arguing , “We are a nation of laws.â€Â I now think that is wrong. Or at least not accurate. For quite a while we have really been “a nation of whatever Judge Judy thinks the law the says.â€Â But we must remember that the Stamp Act, which riled our forefathers to revolution, was also a “law.â€Â So it ain’t just ANY law that guides us or that we will abide by. It is “just†laws.  RIGHTEOUS laws. Reverend Martin Luther King said it most eloquently: “A just law is a man made code that squares with...

I was born in Colorado in 1977 and lived there until I was 21. I went to a private Christian school from age 5-18 and then studied Computer Science at Colorado State University.I graduated at the height of the .com Bubble in 2000 and could’ve gotten a job at any tech company in the USA. I was offered ridiculous salaries with signing bonuses of luxury cars. Pretty tempting.Something about it all seemed very predictable though. Go to College, get the job, go to work. I had lived in Colorado my entire life and even though I had tried very hard...

David Cameron will face a record rebellion over Europe unless he clears up his confused plans for a referendum, Conservative MPs warned. The Prime Minister caused controversy after he backed the idea of a poll on Europe “when the time is right” – probably after the next general election. In an article for The Sunday Telegraph, Mr Cameron said that for the first time “the two words Europe and referendum can go together” Dr Liam Fox, the former Defence Secretary, will today claim that Britain’s “national interest is at stake” because Government power is being “curtailed by diktat from Brussels”....

What? The former Speaker is saying ObamaCare is a penalty, not a tax, that is enforced by the tax code...or something. Gregory: Is it a tax? Pelosi: No no, no no. Pelosi: Right, ObamaCare Is Constitutional Under Taxing PowerIs this what Pelosi meant by "passing the bill to see what's in it?" The Supreme Court saw what was in ObamaCare, ruled it a tax, and she, along with top White House officials, are saying it's a tax. It is very clear the Democrats have their talking points together. And yet, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz is accusing Republicans of being...

What’s a Socialist?By STEVEN ERLANGER Published: June 30, 2012 FRANCE has elected its first Socialist president since 1988 and then given the Socialist Party and its closest allies a whopping majority in Parliament. But how Socialist is François Hollande? And what does it mean to be a Socialist these days, anyway? Not very much. Certainly nothing radical. In a sense, socialism was an ideology of the industrialized 19th century, a democratic Marxism, and it succeeded, even in (shh!) the United States. Socialism meant the emancipation of the working class and its transformation into the middle class; it championed social justice...

11 UK soldiers gunned down in Helmand in past three months, compared to two in the same period last year... British soldiers in Afghanistan claim that new tactics are preventing them shooting at the Taliban until they have been fired at themselves – resulting in an alarming rise in the number of casualties. ... Soldiers now say they are particularly vulnerable when they are manning checkpoints at road junctions or patrolling Taliban heartlands such as the so-called ‘green zone’, a densely vegetated river valley. One junior non-commissioned officer said: ‘When I arrived in Helmand, my officers said our tactics were...

China blocks Xi Jinping web searches after report on family's wealth BEIJING: China blocked web searches today for the name of leader-in-waiting Xi Jinping, a day after cutting access to Bloomberg sites following the agency's publication of a report on his family's wealth. Financial newswire Bloomberg used publicly available records to compile a list of investments by Chinese Vice President Xi's extended family, which the agency said totalled USD 376 million. The report did not trace any assets to Xi, expected to become Chinese president in an upcoming leadership transition, his wife, or their daughter and said there was no...

Google is banning the sale of weapons and ammunition within its shopping center, causing firearms owners to second guess their use of the search giant. The company announced on May 31 that it would be changing its product search policies for Google Shopping. “All of the items in your feed must be in compliance with Google Shopping policies,” the company said on the site’s support center. “In particular, all items have to be family safe.” ..... “Google now has a worse policy than ebay,” wrote The Firearm Blog, which posted the email on its blog Thursday. The eBay policy allows...

June 30, 2012 For more than 30 years, Richard Miles and Reg Mead scoured the fields of their native Jersey with metal detectors, hoping to one day come across an ancient coin or two. Earlier this week, the detector beeped and they found the world's largest-ever stash of Celtic coins. Host Scott Simon speaks with Reg Mead about their find. Copyright © 2012 National Public Radio®. Some of the least successful chief justices, Roberts suggested, had faltered because they misunderstood the job, approaching it as law professors rather than as leaders of a collegial Court. Harlan Fiske Stone, a former dean of Columbia Law School, was a case in point. Stone “was a failure as chief, because of his misperception of what a chief justice is supposed to be,” Roberts said, gesturing to the justices’ private conference room through an open door of his office. “It’s his desk out there that is separate from the conference table, and he … sat at his desk, and the...
