SNIP In the statement, Murkowski said she would not run as a Libertarian candidate, which means that if she does run it will be as a write-in candidate. In explaining her decision, Murkowski had some harsh words for the Tea Party Express, which backed Miller. "...After meeting with the Libertarian candidate last week and considering that option, I cannot in good conscience seek the Libertarian nomination," she said. "As disappointed as I am in the outcome of the Primary and my belief that the Alaska Republican Party was hijacked by the Tea Party Express, an outside extremist group, I am...

Bank of America will charge clients new monthly fees if their accounts do not meet a minimum balance, the bank's CEO Brian Moynihan said on Tuesday. ... These and other measures will allow the bank to compensate for revenue lost due to new regulations put in place following the 2008 financial crisis that led the US government to salvage many bank with massive bailouts, he said. "Over the next 12 months, we will reset the entire product line." Police in the US have issued a bizarre warning to parents about a ‘paedophile’ cartoon bear that was created by a website as in internet joke. Pedobear was created on 4chan, a chaotic, largely unregulated network of messageboards which has spawned some of the internet’s most famous virals and jokes. It is used by some users to mock people in internet chat rooms by suggesting that they are paedophiles or have said something slightly inappropriate about children. Now police in San Luis Obispo in California appear to have misunderstood the internet trend – or meme - and have warned parents...

A New Jersey man who burned pages from the Koran outside a planned mosque near Ground Zero was fired from his job at NJ Transit, sources and authorities confirmed. Derek Fenton, an 11-year employee at NJ Transit, was fired Monday, the agency said in a statement, two days after he was photographed burning the Koran. "Mr. Fenton's public actions violated New Jersey Transit's code of ethics," NJ Transit said.

A Warner Robins couple faces murder and cruelty to children charges after medical crews found their 2-year-old son starved to death inside their home. 23-year-old Sade Shamon King and 25-year-old William Thomas Davis III are in the Houston County Jail without bond. Investigators and neighbors say there are many unanswered questions about why D'Shawn Davis was isolated and neglected for nearly a year inside his Tiffany Place home. JoAnn Smith, a neighbor, says she was shocked when the couple who lived next door were arrested Tuesday and accused of starving their son. "Believe it or not. There's food in the...

PARIS – Paris' Eiffel Tower and its immediate surroundings were evacuated Tuesday evening after an anonymous caller phoned in a bomb threat, but a police search turned up nothing suspicious, French media reported. Officials evacuated about 2,000 people and combed through the 324-meter (1,063-foot) tower, a Paris police spokesman said. By midnight, people were walking around and riding bikes underneath France's most popular tourist spot again. The tower itself, which had 6.6 million visitors last year, usually closes at 11 p.m. Media reported that the scare was a false alarm. Paris police did not immediately return calls seeking information.

In this Peruvian Times tour of early Peru we are now visiting the fourth site, Pucllana or the Huaca Juliana, part of the "intermediate" Lima Culture. Please see Part 2 for map and Part 3 for aerial views and context. I hope that during the course of the next five parts of the series -- which all have to do with the same time period as Pucllana, approximately 200-800 AD -- a more intimate understanding of this remarkable era in Peru's development will emerge. It is remarkable also because of the "flowering" of two neighboring cultures: those of the Moche...

TONY Abbott today revealed that Malcolm Turnbull is central to his strategy to convince the independents to shift their support from Labor to the Coalition. One day after announcing his line-up, Mr Abbott hit the airwaves to attack the Government's $43 billion National Broadband Network. The Opposition leader said there was “no reason whatsoever why there couldn't be a baton change at some point early in the government's term”. “We've got to demonstrate to the Australian public that we would be a better and safer pair of hands than the Labor party, that we can be better trusted with public...

THREATENING phone calls to a local newspaper in Rob Oakeshott's electorate have forced a public meeting with the Independent MP to be cancelled. The Port Macquarie News reported today a number of threatening calls had been made to the office of the newspaper on the NSW mid-north coast. The Port Macquarie Panthers club, where a public meeting with Mr Oakeshott was to be held tomorrow night, had also received threatening calls. The newspaper said the Australian Federal Police were understood to be investigating a series of threats made against Mr Oakeshott. The paper cancelled the event "in the interests of...

The Presidency: If any doubts remain that President Obama isn't the "post-partisan" uniter as advertised, witness his oddly personal attack on House Minority Leader John Boehner last week. Acting more like a hired gun, the president stormed into Boehner's Ohio district to single out the Republican leader for rebuke, disparaging him as a country club elitist who cares only about "millionaires." He called Boehner out no fewer than 10 times during a speech to Democrat supporters, an extraordinary display of political trench warfare for a sitting president — especially one who's not even up for re-election. Boehner, on the other...

New Zealand's air force has gone to the rescue of a sick American -- in Antarctica. A crew of 12, plus three medics, flew to evacuate the man Tuesday from the U.S. research base at McMurdo Station. There were limited details about the man's health, but he had an illness, rather than an injury, said New Zealand Air Force Squadron Leader Kavae Tamariki. A rescue team initially set off Monday from Christchurch, but was forced to turn back after about an hour. With the snow, "You weren't able to see anything," Tamariki said. There also was snow on the runway...

Last week we saw a Florida Pastor – with 30 members in his church – threaten to burn Korans which lead to riots and killings in Afghanistan. We also saw Democrats and Republicans alike assume that Pastor Jones had a Constitutional right to burn those Korans. But Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer told me on “GMA” that he’s not prepared to conclude that — in the internet age — the First Amendment condones Koran burning. “Holmes said it doesn’t mean you can shout ‘fire’ in a crowded theater,” Breyer told me. “Well, what is it? Why? Because people will be...

For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.(Romans 5:6-10) I have come...
