Pew Research has just released an interesting study on how people view the media. These are some of the findings of the study as it relates to Black Americans and news media. From Richard Prince’s Journal-isms: African Americans’ lack of confidence in the news media has risen more than that of whites since the election of President Obama, according to a survey by the Pew Research Center that also shows “the public’s assessment of the accuracy of news stories is now at its lowest level in more than two decades of Pew Research surveys.” “We know that African Americans express...

EVERETT, Wash. - Bikini baristas in Everett may find themselves under greater scrutiny. The city is considering a change to its lewd conduct ordinance. Though it doesn't mention bikini baristas specifically, it does add language that seems to target them. One such area adds the following to the definition of a public place: "... businesses contained in structures which can serve customers who remain in their vehicles, by means of a drive up window." Bikini stand owners and workers fear the updated ordinance could make them targets. "Law enforcement should worry about law enforcement and not worry about trying to...

President Barack Obama hit the campaign trail for one of the newest members of his party today, Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter. The 79-year old senator switched parties last April, after 44 years in office as a Republican. His new affiliation may have won him the favor of the president, but it’s also set him up for a very tough re-election battle in Pennsylvania. In twin events in Philadelphia this afternoon, the president helped Specter get “within striking distance” of his $2.5 million fundraising goal, according to the senator’s press secretary Kate Kelly. (snip) The President hailed Sen. Specter as a...

September 16, 2009 Unions Rally To Defend Workers Against The Common Foe: Killer Heels Suzy Jagger, Will Pavia Since 1868 the trade unions of Britain have met in congress and fought for Britain’s downtrodden workers. They have made great strides, but battles remain. After the fight for equal pay comes the struggle for equal shoes. Yesterday the TUC turned its attention to the terrible threat to the workers that is posed by high heels. Shortly before Gordon Brown addressed union members on the need to cut costs in public services, the unions spoke with one voice, demanding that women be...

Controversy leads to resignation request By Johnna Pinholster September 15, 2009 12:03 am — VALDOSTA — The Rev. Floyd Rose called for Valdosta City School Superintendent Dr. Bill Cason’s resignation Monday night. During the regular Board of Education meeting Rose, president of the Valdosta/Lowndes County Chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, spoke to the board about the superintendent’s decision not to air President Barack Obama’s speech on education during school hours. Rose and hundreds of others converged on the BOE office demanding answers for why the speech was not shown in a school system that is predominately black. On...

Washington, DC – An industry survey has revealed that over 5,000 direct jobs, including 1,700 jobs in Florida, would be created over the next five years if the $2.5 billion Commercial Crew Program proposed by the White House Review of U.S. Human Space Flight Plans Committee (also known as the Augustine Committee) moves forward. A Commercial Crew program would support full utilization of the Space Station, reduce U.S. reliance on Russia to launch American astronauts, and allow NASA to focus its resources on exploration beyond low-Earth-orbit (LEO).

The cry and mantra we’re now hearing from the Obama administration and the Leftist Secular controlled Democratic Party is that we have to have a National Health Care bill passed and in place before the beginning of the summer congressional recess. The urgency and subtlety of this bill is quite telling. Some common tactics used by the Left are camouflage, deception, manipulation, connivery and demagoguery to get the agenda that they want. It is the Left’s agenda with this issue - as well as many others - to seize massive power and control in a fascist style and manner. It...

The arrests come after Ayatollah Montazeri issued a new statement in which he urges leading Shi'ite clerics and "sources of emulation" to...

Now that ACORN is getting stomped, maybe Congress will look at their own report released on July 23, 2009, by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. At 88 pages, the report provides enough detail to turn the tables back to Congress: Why did you keep these people on the payroll?

President Barack Obama’s address to the AFL-CIO on Tuesday will shed light on a precarious friendship that will be tested in the near future. Though the president is expected to celebrate his relationship with unions that fervently supported his 2008 campaign, differences between Obama and organized labor will be at the forefront during his address at the AFL-CIO’s convention. On healthcare, Obama has voiced support for a public insurance option but is not insisting on one. Organized labor wants a public option to drive down healthcare costs, and the AFL-CIO is expected to approve a resolution that backs a government...

Telegraph.co.uk today reports that Mohammed has become the most common name for baby boys born in London and in three other English regions. In the capital, the Islamic name - including its varient spellings - was twice as popular as the second-placed name, Daniel, in 2008. For those who follow these things, this won’t come as a huge surprise. We know that the UK’s Muslim population is growing, both through immigration and through its higher birthrate. We know that there are particular concentrations in London, the West Midlands and the North of England. We know that Muslim families tend to...

The events since President Barack Obama’s election have turned me into an angry and vengeful man. I want someone to break Glenn Beck’s jaw. I want Dick Cheney’s pacemaker to fail (compared to Ted Kennedy’s funeral, how many might come to Cheney’s?). I’d like to see Karl Rove bitten by a rattle-snake, miles from any first aid station. I want someone to push a cream pie in Sarah Palin’s face. I’d force every right-wing nut to have to wear the Scarlett Letter “R” for “Redneck.” Except for the crazies who invade WeHo on weekends and holidays, I must say I’m...

The stunning photos from the Hubble Space Telescope released last week by NASA are a vivid reminder of why people on Earth are drawn to — and must continue — the exploration of outer space. The timing may or may not have been intentional, but the release of the photos came just days after the release of findings by a blue-ribbon panel assigned to review America’s human spaceflight program. Although the panel confirmed that Mars is a most enticing target for space exploration, current financial resources will put such flights out of reach for the foreseeable future.

Police investigating the slaying of a Yale graduate student zeroed in on a "person of interest" Tuesday after keeping tabs on an ever-tightening circle of people connected to the medical lab where her body was found stuffed behind a wall. Authorities on the case have been tight-lipped almost since the minute 24-year-old Annie Le was reported missing Sept. 8, just a few days before her wedding day. Police say they have ruled out her fiancee, a Columbia University graduate student, but they have provided little additional information—other than to deny reports that a suspect was in custody. On Tuesday, investigators...

Elton John 'Is A Sinner': Church Attacks Singer Over His Plan To Adopt Ukrainian Baby Boy By WILL STEWART Elton John was branded a 'sinner' by the Orthodox Church in Ukraine last night in the row over his wish to adopt a baby from the country. The comment came after officials confirmed there has been no application yet for the 62-year-old singer to adopt Lev, a 14-month-old boy whose mother has HIV. [Pic in URL] However, at least one government source speculated that liberal politicians might seek to put a law through the Ukrainian parliament to enable the pop star...

A Colorado man who's the target of a terrorism probe that led to several police raids in New York City denies he did anything wrong. A law enforcement official told The Associated Press Tuesday that the FBI had put Najibullah (Nah-JEEB'-ull-ah) Zazi (ZAH'-zee) under surveillance in connection with a suspected plot to make homemade bombs. The official wasn't authorized to speak publicly and insisted on anonymity. Zazi told The Associated Press in a Denver suburb that he had recently visited New York and knows he's under investigation. But he says he's innocent.
