Obama on Specter: He Was Great as a Republican – Going to Be Even Better as a Democrat (LOL)
ABC ^ | 9/15/2009 | Yunji de Nies and Sunlen Miller

President Barack Obama hit the campaign trail for one of the newest members of his party today, Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter. The 79-year old senator switched parties last April, after 44 years in office as a Republican. His new affiliation may have won him the favor of the president, but it’s also set him up for a very tough re-election battle in Pennsylvania.

In twin events in Philadelphia this afternoon, the president helped Specter get “within striking distance” of his $2.5 million fundraising goal, according to the senator’s press secretary Kate Kelly.

The President hailed Sen. Specter as a politician who followed his convictions over political expediency

“Arlen is not someone who came to Washington to fight for a particular ideology. He came to fight for the working men and women of Pennsylvania. And he has a long and successful record of doing just that,” the president said.

He praised Specter for casting the deciding vote in favor of the Recovery Act.

“At the time, this was not an easy vote for Arlen to take. You can imagine the pressure he was under from the other side. But Arlen knew that it was more important to answer to the people who sent him to Washington than to the party he belonged to. That's why you should send him back to Washington for six more years -- because you know he's going to fight for you regardless of what the politics are,” the president said.

The president ended the rally saying that Specter was “a great senator when he was a Republican; he's going to be a even better senator now that he's a Democrat.”

Arlen Specter is one of Bush’s big political mistakes.

I hope he is even better at messing things up on your side of the aisle than he was on ours, Barry. Socialists just love each other so much nowadays. Hard to get them to compe out of the orgy pile and put clothes on to vote on crap legislation and screw the country too.

“Arlen Specter is one of Bush’s big political mistakes.”

Bush was warned many times, just as he was on amnesty. You see what we got as a result of RINO intransigence.

Gotta love the twisted logic of that statement

Arlen Specter is one of Bush’s America's big political mistakes.

Ask Obama why if he's such a great Democrat, did Specter switch to the Republican party in 1965. Because he's a opportunistic dope, is why.

Of course he is going to make a better Democrat because he was already a Democrat.

I am so happy that he is gone from the GOP. I didn’t think they should have propped him up in 2004! Ever since he brought Scottish Law into the discussion on Clinton removal I have thought he had several screws loose and would make a perfect Dem.

Specter is just a hack politician who like vast majority just want to stay in power

Like it or not Specter is a product of the political makeup of PA —majority liberal ( plus vote fraud )

If he wanted to stay in power his only hope was switching parties because he was going to lose in the primary to a conservative —he may yet lose to a more lefty dem in the dem primary

If he truely became a conservative GOP type he probably would lose to a lib democrat

Sad but that is the facts of life in PA —look what happened to Santorum lost to a Big Nothing Casey

Frankly, I wonder if Santorum wasn't his own worst enemy.

Democrats targeted him early as being vulnerable because of PA’s demographics and the papers ran continuous hit pieces on him

The only positive thing that Barak Hussein Obama may have accomplished is forcing Specter to show his true colors. Thank God that Specter is officially a Democrat. Another RINO has gone home.

Arlen was an example of the Liberals invading the Republican Party. It’s like there are Liberal republicans and real Conservatives now. Make me sick. Thank god he left, but He would have lost the primary anyways. Therefore he is a chicken. Switched only to get more backing. Obama is a loser. You know he would have bash Arlen anyways despite his liberalness had he had an R by his name. Now he is all lUvy Duvy because it helps his dumb party.

There is no denying that Spector was indeed a great Republican... for the Democrats.
