This week end, the spousal unit and I watched the award winning film, "The Wrestler". In that, the main character "Randy the Ram", who was living in his van, and had a heart attack after a match. The film shows him leaving the hospital after a by-pass. I am assuming, with out two coins to rub together, our present national health care covered his surgery and recovery?Movie critque aside, just curious.

The Acorn Mission Statement as posted on their web site: The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) aims to organize a majority constituency of low- to moderate-income people across the United States. The members of ACORN take on issues of relevance to their communities, whether those issues are discrimination,........ACORN believes that low- to moderate-income people are the best advocates for their communities, and so ACORN's low- to moderate-income members act as leaders, spokespeople, and decision-makers within the organization. That last line...the one about leaders, spokespeople, and decision makers? That's shaping up well for them. As we've recently seen...

LONDON – In a case that altered airport security worldwide, three British Muslims were imprisoned Monday for at least 30 years each for a plot to kill thousands by blowing up trans-Atlantic airliners with liquid explosives hidden in soda bottles. The judge described the foiled suicide bombings — meant to rival the Sept. 11 attacks — as "a grave and wicked" conspiracy, likely the most serious terrorist case ever dealt with by a British court. The plot's disclosure prompted an immediate ban on taking some liquids onboard passenger jets, a measure that remains in place, inconveniencing passengers throughout the world....

Police have cordoned off an area in Scarborough after a suspicious package was found in a car parked outside a tow truck company, located close to a propane cylinder. The area they have cleared stretches nearly two kilometres in all directions from the site of the discovery, at 2671 Markham Rd. It is bordered by Finch Avenue, Tapscott Road, Middlefield Road and Morningside Avenue. Police were first called to William's Car Towing at about 1:30 p.m. with reports of a suspicious substance in a vehicle on Monday afternoon. Const. Wendy Drummond says there is the "possibility of an explosion" as...

Czechs feel betrayed, Poles irked, Romanians slighted. Ask them who's to blame, and the answer may come as a surprise: President Barack Obama. George W. Bush fawned over Eastern Europe, and its leaders rushed to join his post-9/11 "coalition of the willing." Now many—officials and ordinary citizens alike—are grumbling over what they perceive as the Obama administration's neglect. It's a startling shift in a region long accustomed to cozy ties with the United States. "Now we see the beginning of indifference," said Tudo Salajean, a Romanian historian and researcher.

Journalism Is Dead: Part 1,749,212. The Associated Press must have wandered too far outside of its Obama Comfort Zone last week when it attempted an open act of journalism after the president's health care speech. Not to worry, their lips are dutifully crowding the executive derriere once more. Assessing the ever-dimming prospects for the Democrats in 2010, AP reporter Beth Fouhy (my guess: registered Independent but has never even looked at a Republican's name on a ballot) creates the illusion of doing her job objectively but maintains her Obama cred with the use of a few craftily employed words and...

Here is audio of Rush Limbaugh today identifying several "phony conservatives," and saying it is just "stupid" for anyone to say there is no real difference between Democrats and Republicans. Limbaugh said there are several "phony conservatives" who like to "dump on" conservatism, and use their opportunities to advocate changing the conservative message to fit polls and what seems to be popular at the moment. He specifically mentioned David Brooks, Ross Douthat, and Frank Luntz. Limbaugh also said people are "naive" who think there is no difference between Democrats and Republicans. He said the crowd that showed up to protest...

The Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments has declined to comment on reports that the Vatican is considering a “reform of the reform” of the liturgy, but a formal statement on the matter is expected soon. An official in that department told the Register Sept. 8 that “everything is under study and is progressing” but added that he could say no more until Cardinal Antonio Llovera Cañizares, prefect of the congregation, or the Holy See Press Office, issued an official statement. On Aug. 22, the reliable Vatican watcher Andrea Tornielli reported that cardinals and bishops of the...

SNIPPET: "According to a report prepared by Pakistani police (the Crime Investigation Department), the AHF has funded approximately USD 15 million to Jihadi groups in Pakistan for carrying out terror attacks. These funds mostly went to the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) which is responsible for numerous suicide strikes in the last couple of years and also blamed for the assassination of Benezir Bhutto." SNIPPET: "Till 2004, the United States had designated at least thirteen AHF branch offices operating in Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, in many African countries and in the United States. WASHINGTON (AP) - Speaking on the anniversary of the start of the financial meltdown, President Barack Obama warned bankers not to "expect that next time, American taxpayers will be there to break their fall." That's not a serious threat. Obama's plan for overhauling the financial system creates a new category for the largest banks, those whose failures would threaten the wider financial system. These "Tier I" companies will face stricter rules designed to limit how much risk they can take and how much damage they would do if they fail.

An Dang The persecution of Christians in Vinh is intended to divert attention from internal party divisions but it is also a sign of the profound contempt it is capable of, and of its willingness, in line with new economic ideas to sell out the country to its traditional enemy, China. The Church, which plays a role in raising consciousness, and Montagnard converts are condemned to disappear. Hanoi (AsiaNews) – On July 20, 2009 police in Quang Binh province launched a surprised attack...

My producing partner, Steve Vernon and I went to Westwood this weekend with a camera and shot the Tea Party rally. It was an amazing day and an amazing job done by the organizers. I have a lot of tape and there’s no way to do the event justice in just under three and a half minutes, but Internet attention spans being what they are, I put the blade to it and (since I do have a degree in journalism) put my spin on it. I was assisted in this by some amazing speakers (I wish I could have fit...

During a hearing in U.S. District Court Monday, an attorney for an Army officer fighting deployment to Iraq questioned Barack Obama’s legal right to serve as president, asserting he was born in Kenya, not Hawaii. Judge Clay Land, inquisitive throughout the 90-minute hearing, said he will issue a decision on Capt. Connie Rhodes’ request for a temporary restraining order by noon Wednesday. Rhodes was represented by Orly Taitz, a California lawyer and a national figure in the “birther” movement that claims Obama does not meet the qualifications to be president. California attorney Orly Taitz, the president of the Defend Our...
