Home foreclosures in August jumped 18 percent from a year ago, but decreased 0.47 from the previous month, according to a new report by RealtyTrac, an online marketplace for foreclosure properties. Foreclosures remained near record levels in August. In all, 358,471 properties in the United States received foreclosure fillings in August, just slightly below July's record level of 360,149 properties.

After all the rhetoric is put aside, one principle ran through President Obama’s speech tonight: that increased government involvement in health care can solve its problems. Rarely does the Peter Principle present us with an officeholder who has skipped all the levels in-between and risen as a result of one desperate act of temporary insanity by the voters, to be propelled well beyond his or her level of incompetence. That, of course, is precisely what has happened to Barack Obama.

How is it that all of these uber-liberal types who are completely in support of "My Body, My Choice" abortion are fighting tooth and nail for nationalized health care? If this health care bill passes, those same people will lose all power to make decisions about their bodies or their health. It goes against what they claim to have been fighting for all these years: the freedom to choose what they do with their own bodies, without government infringing upon that right. It's just plain hypocritical.

HARRISBURG – A federal grand jury filed a 48-count indictment Wednesday against Mark Ciavarella and Michael Conahan, charging the former Luzerne County judges with racketeering, extortion, bribery, money laundering, fraud and tax violations.
