SAN ANTONIO, Texas – "Remember the Alamo!" is the most famous slogan in this part of the country. But WND's Joseph Farah is hoping his slogan will catch on here as well. The newest addition to the "Where's the birth certificate?" billboard campaign hit San Antonio this week – sparking discussions on radio talk shows and lots of water-cooler chit-chat. The billboard is located on Interstate 10 and Highway 37 at the Pine Avenue exit. Discussions on Welfare reform often included the proposal of random drug testing for the recipients. That language could also be included in the Health Care Reform Bill for those who accept the public option. Why should a tax payer be forced to pay for people who voluntarily wish to damage themselves and burden society with the costs? This question should be brought in the current discussion. The support from the left would die very quickly if that language were to be adopted. It also may force Pelosi to not include the public option in the bill.

I just finished reading a book, Don't Tread on Me, by Carol Gould, a U.S. ex pat who has lived her adult life in the U.K. Gould is a self declared conservative, at least in certain matters, and must be counted among the British intelligentsia. Over the last few years we have exchanged emails and she send me a complementary copy of her new book, Don't Tread On Me. It was a very quick read. It concerns itself with British anti-Americanism. When it comes to recognizing the the extend and significance of anti-Americanism, antisemitism and anti-Zionism, I am far from...

Tell me one thing. If we have to allow Barry time to talk directly to our kids, then wouldn't it be fair to allow us, all of us, to talk directly to his? Maybe we could give them assignments, and....
  • Bailout “profit” is taxpayers’ loss

Charging a bank for an implicit government guarantee to absorb losses? According to the Wall Street Journal, the Federal Reserve and Treasury are demanding that Bank of America pay $500 million to exit a bailout deal that was never actually signed. That’s a nice chunk of change, but taxpayers shouldn’t be fooled into thinking this — or any other bailout — is a good deal. A very dangerous misconception is taking root in the press, that in addition to saving the world financial system, the bank bailout is making taxpayers money. “As big banks repay bailout, U.S. sees profit” read...

What lies ahead for the enigmatic and iconic Sarah Palin, who recently passed her first anniversary as a major pop-culture figure? A little more than 12 months to the day, John McCain tapped the little-known Palin to be his running mate, lifting her into national prominence. Palin has become a fixture in the pop-culture landscape. On Wednesday, I did a Google search of "Sarah Palin" and found 18.2 million items. With the exception of President Obama, who drew 75 million Google entries, has any individual dominated water-cooler chats as much as Palin throughout the past year? The question has become...

Will BO throw Van under the bus? "Van," as we all know by now, is Obozo's Green Commie Czar, Van Jones. Commie Czar Jones's Looney Left resume is impressive, even for a member of BO's Politburo. This article, 'Green Jobs' Adviser's Past Could Stir Trouble for White House at Critical Time, reviews his leftist credentials: Involved in STORM, "Standing Together to Organize a Revolutionary Movement," a Marxist-Leninist Communist organization. A white-hating black racist, co-founder of "Color of Change." A 9/11 "Truther." Now a "Green Jobs" adviser. But it's not easy being green. Besides all his commie and truther baggage...

The Federal Housing Administration, hit by increasing mortgage-related losses, is in danger of seeing its reserves fall below the level demanded by Congress, according to government officials, in a development that could raise concerns about whether the agency needs a taxpayer bailout. The rising losses at the FHA, part of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, come as the agency has rapidly increased its role in guaranteeing loans in an attempt to stabilize the housing market. It isn't clear how the rising losses may affect home buyers. Options for the agency could include politically unpalatable choices, such as...

Bring on the war of words. In a frank conversation with MSN writer Lawrence Ulrich, Audi of America President Johan de Nysschen has said that the Chevy Volt will fail and that anybody who buys the car is an idiot. Not only that, de Nysschen has lumped proponents of any type of electric car into a category of "intellectual elite who want to show what enlightened souls they are." I'm guessing that means a fair amount of the people reading this would be considered idiots and pompous intellectual elites in Mr. de Nysschen's book. Funny that. Hearing an Audi executive...

The economy is showing consistent signs of improvement, but probably not enough to stop employers from cutting jobs or to keep the unemployment rate from rising. The Labor Department is expected to report Friday that the jobless rate increased to 9.5 percent in August, from 9.4 percent in July, as employers cut 225,000 jobs. The employment report will follow other recent data that shows the economy is pulling out of the worst recession since World War II. A trade group reported Tuesday that the manufacturing sector grew in August for the first time in 19 months, while home sales have...

Obama's getting ready for the U.N. global warming conference. So is Bjorn Lomborg. The coming fight over climate change and energy policy may make August's health care reform row look like a playground scuffle. In June, the House of Representatives passed the American Clean Energy and Security (ACES) Act by a razor thin margin of 219 to 212 votes. The central feature of the 1,428-page bill is a cap-and-trade program that would limit the emissions of carbon dioxide by American industry and consumers. The Obama administration and the Democratic leadership in Congress are pressing strongly to get ACES passed and signed...

Here is video of Laura Ingraham in for Bill O'Reilly talking with Democratic Strategist Keith Watters about a new DNC ad that attacks Dick Cheney and "enhanced interrogation techniques." When asked about Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and what is "permissible" to do with him if interrogation is not, Watters said "if someone has broken the law, they should be held accountable" as if Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is just a common criminal. Ingraham pointed out that he was not just a common criminal but had a key part in the attacks of Sept. 11 and asked Watters "you didn't consider that an...

The coming swine flu vaccination campaign is expected to begin in October. But with vaccine safety tests being fast-tracked under “public health emergency” rules and the use of some questionable ingredients, many health experts are warning about a myriad of risks associated with the vaccine and the importance of being educated. “Right now, you need to become educated about vaccination, influenza, vaccine risks and the public health laws in your state,” warned Barbara Loe Fisher, the president of the National Vaccine Information Center. “You need to find out what your rights and options are under new public health laws that...

Scores of people were feared killed on Friday in a big explosion involving fuel tankers in northern Afghanistan, the governor of Kunduz province said, blaming Taliban militants. The governor, Mohammad Omar, said as many as 90 people may have been killed in the blast, which occurred when residents were collecting fuel from tanker trucks in a rural district of the province.
