Like the coach said, it’s déjà vu all over again. We are charging full speed off the panic cliff one more time. There’s another round of something called swine flu (this time, AH1N1), just like in the mid 1970s. And just like 33 years ago, there’s a huge government rush to whip out a vaccine and a full-court media frenzy to get everyone and his dog immunized. Let’s all take a breather and recall some history. The first mass U.S. vaccination in 1976 was a total fiasco. Some 40 million took shots against a pandemic that never materialized. At least...

At about 20 minutes into this video, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n2z6nOOO-2Y, Van Jones advocates that Davey D be on the FCC. Davey D's website is here http://www.daveyd.com/. He conducted a talk-radio show interview in 2002 here http://www.daveyd.com/bootsonthewarpolitics.html in which many callers and his guest made many anti-American statements. At the end of the show Davey D stated: "Davey D: I would just add that anyone who has what we may consider an informed perspective step it up a notch and involve themselves in these on going discussions by writing letters to the editors, calling up local radio talk shows and tv stations and...

We’ve burned through rather a lot of pixels combating the claims of those who deny that Barack Obama is eligible to be president of the United States. He is, by virtue of having been born in Hawaii, as attested to repeatedly by state officials and even by the flagship of conservative publications, the National Review. And, for the 10 percent of you out there who aren’t entirely sure, yes, Hawaii is part of the United States. We’ve given the denialists a lot of grief for the times they’ve been wrong. But we’d be remiss not to note when they get...

The popular 2002 movie Men With Brooms is coming to the CBC as a sitcom pilot. The pubcaster has given the production order to E1 Television and Serendipity Point Films for a pilot episode to loosely follow Paul Gross' curling comedy and directorial debut. The film racked up $4.2 million on theatrical release, portraying a reunited curling team overcoming personal struggles to capture a national trophy for their late coach. The offbeat comedy starred Gross, Leslie Nielsen, Kari Matchett, Molly Parker and Polly Shannon. "Men with Brooms is a known entity, and it's nice to build on that. It did...

Besieged by leaks of several closely held secrets, the CIA has asked the Justice Department to examine what it regards as the criminal disclosure of a secret program to kill foreign terrorist leaders abroad, The Washington Times has learned. Two U.S. intelligence officials, who spoke on the condition that they not be named because of the sensitivity of the case, said the leak investigation involved a program that CIA Director Leon E. Panetta told Congress about in June and that surfaced in news reports just a month later. The vice chairman of the the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence declined...

President Obama has met with the pope, the queen of England and will address both houses of Congress next week. But his efforts to get an audience with American schoolchildren for a pep talk are falling flat. An Obama speech to students about academic success, to be broadcast over cable television, radio and the Internet on Tuesday, won't reach many Tarrant County students. Most Tarrant County school districts will not make it mandatory viewing for students. Many districts say they don't have the technology to provide it. Others will give parents the opportunity to have their children skip it if...

China will parade five new missiles in a show of military prowess on the 60th anniversary of Communist Party rule. Chinese state media said that nuclear intercontinental ballistic missiles, conventional cruise missiles, and an array of medium and short range missiles would be put on public display for the first time. Visitors walk past China's second nuclear missile on display as they visit the Military Museum in Beijing "These missiles are domestically designed and manufactured and have never been officially reported before," said a source from the Second Artillery Force. He added that the missiles were "second generation" and were...

New Delhi: Boosted by good growth in India and China, the world economy is starting to recover from the one of the worst financial crisis in decades, says Moody's. Despite the global slowdown, two of the world's fastest growing economies -- India and China -- have witnessed growth. For the April-June quarter, the Chinese GDP expanded by 7.9 per cent while that of India grew 6.1 per cent. "The world economy is starting to recover thanks to renewed growth in China and India," Moodys' Economy.com, which is part of Moody's, said in a report. The US economy mired in recession...

Since we are moving toward socialism with ObamaCare, the time has come to do the same with other professions—especially lawyers. Physician committees can decide whether lawyers are necessary in any given situation. At a town-hall meeting in Portsmouth, N.H., last month, our uninformed lawyer in chief suggested that we physicians would rather chop off a foot than manage diabetes since we would make more money doing surgery. Then President Obama compounded his attack by claiming a doctor's reimbursement is between "$30,000" and "$50,000" for such amputations! (Actually, such surgery costs only about $1,500.) Physicians have never been so insulted. Because...

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan -- Last month, our Fox News' "War Stories" team was in Colombia, covering the tough fight against a narco-insurgency, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, or FARC. This month, we're in Afghanistan, covering another narco-insurgency, the Taliban. In Colombia, cocaine fuels and funds the terror. Here in Afghanistan, it's opium. Despite extraordinary differences in culture, climate and terrain, there are dramatic parallels in the two campaigns. More importantly, lessons learned in the Andean basin are being applied here in the shadows of the Hindu Kush. Both countries have isolated agricultural populations vulnerable to coercion by insurgents financed by...

Despite a potentially crippling patent injunction against selling Word that Microsoft is battling on appeal, Microsoft, via a senior lawyer, is nevertheless calling for a global patent system "to make it easier and faster for corporations to enforce their intellectual property rights around the world". Yep--despite the big hit they just took due to i4i's patent, Microsoft is concerned about the "unmanageable backlogs and interminable pendency periods" of national patent systems, which have 3.5 million patents pending. You hear that right--Microsoft things more is "needed to be done to allow corporations to protect their intellectual property." What, do they want...

Christian girl ordered to attend public schoolMom's religious views ripped by court By Julia Duin A New Hampshire court ordered a home-schooled Christian girl to attend a public school this week after a judge criticized the "rigidity" of her mother's religious views and said the 10-year-old needed to consider other worldviews as she matures. Ever since the judge's ruling came out in July, the case has aroused the interest of home-schooling groups nationwide, whohave asked why a court has the power to decide whether someone's religious views are too extreme. The girl's mother, Brenda Voydatch, has engaged the Alliance Defense...
