This weekend (April 19 & 20), the Islamic Finance Project of the Harvard University Law School's Islamic Legal Studies Program will present the Eighth Harvard University Forum on Islamic Finance in Boston, MA. The Center for Security Policy has challenged Harvard on the grounds that this Forum will provide NO information about the serious risks that Shariah-Compliant Finance (SCF) poses for U.S. financial institutions, ordinary post-9/11 investors and the national security of the United States of America.
Al Qaeda linked website launches Italian section
One of the most popular Jihadist web forums, the al-Qaeda linked Ekhlas website, has launched a section in Italian.
Ekhlas was previously entirely in Arabic.
Imagine if Oklahoma City or Dallas didn't receive any food deliveries for three days. That was one of the frightening scenarios posed to Ardmore first responders on Monday in a special seminar designed to make people think about agro-terrorism.
Do Tennessee businesses have ties to terrorism?
Federal agencies raided several Memphis businesses in a coordinated effort to find information about possible terrorism ties.
The operation has been named known as "Sudden Impact."
Quebec, Ontario police move on non-profit accused of financing terrorism
Counterterrorism police in Quebec and Ontario effectively shut down a non-profit organization for Canadian Tamils this weekend due to allegations it has been raising money to finance terrorist activities in Sri Lanka.
The RCMP was expected to announce details of its unprecedented actions as early as today, but several sources said police had moved in to enforce a Federal Court restraining order against the World Tamil Movement.
A team of Scottish spies are being recruited to tackle terrorists here.
The secret operation will see an increase in MI5 activity in Scotland in a bid to prevent outrages such as the Glasgow airport attack.
The move was triggered by fears that a growing number of radicals are lying dormant waiting for the moment to strike.

Yes, and whether it’s agro-terrorism or a natural emergency; people need to be prepared for an emergency as you and other TMer’s have pointed out before.
I know I have a back stock at any given time of 3-15 days food/water supply, but I try to stay at 15 days most of the time.

Appalachian_Dweller has always done his best to get everyone to stock up in case of emergency and, like you, I've tried to stock essential items and prepare for the worst case scenario. Hurricane Katrina illuminated what can be expected if people do not heed the need to stockpile essentials and prepare to live without electricity and water. Camping gear along with canned goods, battery AM/FM radio, matches, stored water for personal grooming and sanitation, liquid soap, paper plates and cups and flashlights absolutely mandatory (don't forget to have extra food stored for pets and other critters who depend upon us.

“Jewish Federation shooting victims recall terror of that day
Victim describes terror at Jewish Federation”
By TRACY JOHNSON
P-I REPORTER
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Burkum, now 16, was the first witness Monday against Naveed Haq, a Tri-Cities man accused of killing one woman and wounding five others inside the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle’s downtown offices.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Haq is accused of ranting about Jews, U.S. troops in Iraq and the situation in the Middle East, where Israel had been engaged in increasing violence with Hezbollah forces in Lebanon.
Ehlert told jurors Haq acted deliberately when he walked from office to office at the federation, shooting each woman he saw, and that he later told a detective he “came here today to do this.”
Pamela Waechter, the federation’s 58-year-old annual campaign director, was killed. Prosecutors say Haq shot her in the chest, chased her to a stairway and shot her again in the head.”
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “He was saying that he “was an angry Muslim American, and he wanted to make a statement,” Stumbo said.”

“Prosecutors to refute Jewish center defendant’s insanity claim”
By GENE JOHNSON
AP Legal Affairs Writer
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The man accused of shooting up the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle two years ago, killing one woman and wounding five, was not insane but had a deliberate plan to make a blood-soaked political point, a prosecutor said Monday as the man’s trial began.
Naveed Haq, 32, of Kennewick, has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges of murder and attempted murder in the July 2006 attack, during which he walked through the Jewish center’s downtown Seattle office, ranting against Israel and the Iraq war as he fired, hitting some people at their cubicles and killing Pamela Waechter as she fled down a stairwell. If convicted, he faces life in prison without parole.
King County Deputy Prosecutor Erin Ehlert told jurors in her opening statement that Haq’s careful preparation belied his insanity claim. He made four trips to gun shops in the weeks beforehand and used the Internet to map the 227-mile trip from his parents’ home in Pasco to the center.
“He thought about what he did. He planned what he did,” Ehlert told the jurors.
Even when a police officer stopped him for a traffic violation minutes before the shooting, he and the officer had “a normal conversation in a normal tone of voice,” she said.”

“Teacher accuses Islamic school of racism”
Alexandra Frean, Education Editor
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “A former teacher at an Islamic school, who alleged that it taught an offensive and racist view of non-Muslims, has been awarded £70,000 by an employment tribunal after winning his case for unfair dismissal.
Colin Cook told the tribunal in Watford that pupils were taught from Arabic books that likened Jews and Christians to monkeys and pigs at The King Fahad Academy, which is funded and run by the Saudi Arabian Government.
The tribunal ruled that Mr Cook, a British Muslim, was unfairly dismissed from his £36,000-a-year post at the school in Acton, West London, in December 2006 after blowing the whistle on systematic cheating at a GCSE exam.
The panel found that the school created a smokescreen to try to justify his dismissal after 18 years unblemished service.
It awarded Mr Cook £58,800 in compensation for loss of earnings and £10,500 for injury to feelings. But it rejected his claim that the school discriminated against him on racial grounds.
Mr Cook told the hearing that after leaving the school another member of staff gave him extracts from an Arabic textbook, which encouraged students to believe that all religions other than Islam were worthless.
The books referred to the repugnant characteristics of the Jews. Another passage said: Those whom God has cursed and with whom he is angry, he has turned into monkeys and pigs. They worship Satan.
Mr Cook alleged that the books were spreading race hatred. They should not be brought into this country and they should not be used in this country, he said.”

Well, let’s see how Jimmy Carter’s Middle East tour is going.

“Jimmy Carter Gets ‘Souvenir’ Rocket Tail on Visit to Rocket-Pounded Sderot”
By Julie Stahl
CNSNews.com Jerusalem Bureau Chief
April 14, 2008
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Jerusalem (CNSNews.com) - Just days before he is supposed to meet with Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal in Damascus, Syria, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter criticized Palestinian rocket attacks on civilians in southern Israel.
“I think it’s a despicable crime for any deliberate effort to be made to kill innocent civilians, and my hope is there will be a cease-fire soon,” Carter said during a visit Monday to the rocket-ravaged town of Sderot. (One Kassam rocket slammed into an open area near Sderot on Monday, the army said.)
Although some senior Israeli officials have snubbed Carter — refusing to meet with him — a Foreign Ministry representative in Sderot, Jonathan Peled, said it was important for Carter to visit Sderot.
“The fact that Carter came to Sderot is basically important - for him to see the terrible situation in Sderot and the conditions [under which the residents are living],” Peled told Cybercast News Service.
Carter was shown a house that was hit by a Kassam rocket, the remains of rockets and he also visited an overlook that shows just how close the Gaza Strip is to Israel, said Peled.
Carter also received a “souvenir” - the tail of a Kassam rocket, with an inscription from Sderot Mayor Eli Moyal.
“To President Carter: A momento of the thousands of Kassam rockets that were shot at Sderot and the region and caused the death of many innocent civilians. With hope for peace and tranquility in the near future,” read the inscription, written in Hebrew.
Moyal was one of the few Israeli officials to meet with Carter on his trip here. He said he does not believe that Carter’s upcoming meeting with Mashaal will bring “calm and peace” nor advance Israel’s interests.”

“’4-14’ threat creates empty SXU campus”
April 15, 2008
BY ANGELA CAPUTO Staff writer
ARTICLE SNIPPET: “Saint Xavier and Chicago police along with the FBI are trying to find the person or persons who wrote the ominous threats at the main campus’ Regina Hall that prompted officials to call off classes as of Friday evening and send 870 campus residents packing - effectively clearing the campus.
They interviewed all 227 students in the dorm last week, beginning after the first threat, “Im gon killll,” was found April 5 scratched, with a blunt object, into the stall of a washroom in the freshman dorm. On Monday, “Can’t catch me” was found written on a handicapped-parking sign on the main campus, 3700 W. 103rd St., according to police.
A decision to reopen Saint Xavier is contingent on the recommendation of law enforcement, according to university “

Seven Kuwaiti Shiites to face trial over Mughniyeh eulogy
By ASSOCIATED PRESS
KUWAIT CITY
ARTICLE SNIPPET: Seven Kuwaiti Shiites will face trial for allegedly sending a statement to Lebanese and Iranian TV stations eulogizing a slain Hezbollah militant, their lawyer said Tuesday.
Attorney Abdul-Karim bin Haidar said the prosecution charged the men with spreading false news about the situation in the country, by sending that statement which weakened the position of the state abroad.
He said his clients deny any connection to the statement, which was broadcast by Hezbollahs Al-Manar television in Lebanon, and Irans state-run Arabic channel Al-Alam.
Several of the seven, who include four former legislators and one cleric, attended a eulogy for Mughniyeh in Kuwait shortly after he was killed in a car bomb in Syria in February.

“Sharia Finance”
By Jamie Glazov
FrontPageMagazine.com | Tuesday, April 15, 2008
“Frontpage Interviews guest today is Alex Alexiev, vice president for research at the Center for Security Policy.”
INTERVIEW SNIPPET: “This coming weekend, for instance, Harvard University is holding a big international conference on shariah finance organized by a center for shariah studies at the law school funded by Saudi money some years back. If you went there, Jamie, youll sit through dozens of presentations by well-paid shariah apologists on all imaginable SCF topics, but Ill bet you $100 to $1 that not a single one will touch on the murderous core teachings of this troglodyte doctrine. This is akin to holding a conference on Nazi ideology and limiting the discussion to their successful programs to eliminate unemployment and build autobahns and kindergartens, without once mentioning that Nazism is first and foremost about genocide.
This is what makes this whole industry reeking of dishonesty or worse. I say worse, because if you start studying it as I have, you get this uncomfortable feeling that you are dealing with something bordering on a conspiracy to prevent the public from really seeing whats going on. One of the latest trends in SCF, for example, is to stop using the term shariah altogether and replace it with ethical. And so now you have various outfits springing up which tell you that they are in the business of ethical investment and you need to look closely to figure out that it is shariah finance that they peddle after all. Even that venerable flagship of free enterprise, the Wall Street Journal, recently co-sponsored a conference on Islamic Ethical Investment. Bob Bartley must be turning in his grave.
FP: Are Western banks that promote Sharia Finance today aware of what they are promoting? If so, why do they do what they do? If not, how can they be so ignorant?”
