Hi! My name is John Martineu. Im 18 and a student of Dover high School in Dover Delaware. I have been assigned a final term project. We are to do a 20 page turn paper on different subjects. I am doing one on the collapse of communism. Since you coservatives know alot about this, I was wondering if you could help me out.
First Id like to know what communism is and how it is different from socialism? Second I would also like to know about why Russia collapsed. Third could you tell me why you refer to certain people such as Ann Goodman and Helen Thomas as Communists? Finally Id like to know the advatages of Captialism.
Every bit of information will help me with typing this up. Its due in a month and I hope to pass with flying colors. I might even post it on Freerepublic when it's done. Thanks alot guys
John
Hey kid, go to www.Turn.Page.Papers.R.Us.com!
My advice is that you'll gain credibility by paying very careful attention to spelling and punctuation, and the format of your paper. If you have a friend or relative who's particularly good in those areas, ask them to proofread your paper.
Better yet, find a proofreader with these qualifications:
Female
Classmate
You like her
You think she'd be of like mind to you on this subject
You think she could help you this way.
Then you do something for her trouble, like take her to the graduation party.

Turn the page.
Public schools generally teach that there is a specturm of government ranging from totalitarian facism on one end and totalitarian communism on the other with America somewhere in the middle drifting towards socialism and the communist end. This is false. The spectrum is better described as totalitarianism on one end (which would include facism, the Nazis, the Soviets, communism) and anarchy on the other. America is a constitutional republic designed to be much closer to the anarchy end rather than the totalitarian end -- although anarchy is not a good thing and usually ends up in totalitarianism.
Socialism -- I think -- is best considered to be a philosophy that economic -- and inevitably all -- rights descend from the state. The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) considered itself to be a "socialist" state. The Nazis were also socialist. Nazi is the abbreviation for National Socialist German Workers' Party.
Communism , if I remember my Marxist theory, was an ideal state which one only occur after a socialistic dictatorship of the workers. Double-check me on that.
Note: America was founded on a belief that rights come from a Creator. The belief that rights are God given is a threat to socialists.
Second I would also like to know about why Russia collapsed.
Russia is still with us. What collapsed was the USSR aka the Soviet Union. It had an inefficient economy and a cynical population. In 1979, it invaded Afghanistan. The government couldn't stop returning soldiers from telling their friends and family that it was not going the way the state-controlled media was reporting it nor were the Soviet troops thought of as liberators. This undermined the credibility of the government.
Also, the Solidarity movment in Poland -- inspired by Pope John Paul II -- also damaged the government's credibility.
Also, a defense buildup in the U.S & U.K. led by Ronald Reagan & Margaret Thatcher put unbearable economic pressure on the wobbly Soviet economy. Some say the final straw came when Reagan wouldn't back down on an outer-space missile defense shield (Star Wars) causing Mikhail Gorbachov (chk spelling) to realize his side was kaput.
Third could you tell me why you refer to certain people such as Ann Goodman and Helen Thomas as Communists?
Many in the establishment media had reputation for writing negative stories about Americans taking a hard-line against the Soviets, while writing positive stories about Soviets and Americans who downplayed the Soviet threat.
Finally Id like to know the advatages of Captialism.
Capitalism is the private ownership of money for investment without government oversight. This means those seeking to start productive enterprises don't have to consider appeasing political interests. This means its much less corrupt and much more efficient than socialist systems.
Fellow Freepers I wrote this off the top of my head. Feel free to correct.
I am still cracking up.
