Archaeologists from the Institute of Archaeology of Mérida (IAM) have unearthed a slate plaque at the Casas del Turuñuelo site in Guareña, Badajoz, Spain. Measuring approximately 20 centimeters wide, this plaque is intricately engraved on both sides with various motifs, including geometric patterns, repeated faces, and a combat scene featuring four warriors...
The plaque's detailed engravings depict four warriors with decorated clothing and weapons, suggesting its use as a reference for creating intricate designs on various materials.
In addition to the slate plaque, the 2024 excavation campaign has revealed the location of the eastern gate of the palace complex. This gate provides access to the Stepped Room, first excavated in 2023, where the earliest figured reliefs of Tartessos were found. This gate connects to a large slate-paved courtyard, from which a cobblestone corridor leads to a set of rooms believed to be production or artisanal areas. These rooms have yielded significant material finds, including ceramics with incised decoration, iron tools, ivory items, and loom weights...
The discovery of the slate plaque provides a more comprehensive picture of Tartessian society. The plaque, believed to be a jeweler's slate, illustrates the artistic and cultural practices of the time.
Previous excavation campaigns at Casas del Turuñuelo have uncovered other significant findings, including the largest documented animal sacrifice in the Western Mediterranean. The remains of 52 horses, four cows, four pigs, and a dog were found in the central courtyard, raising questions about the reasons behind such a large-scale sacrifice. Theories suggest it could have been in honor of a deity or a response to a climate crisis or food shortage.

“BCE” is the “woke” way of saying BC as before Christ.
BCE is “before common era”, comrade

You’re right about that.
The academics added it some time ago because they think it will validate what can never be validated.

That’s the headline, and that’s what the FR rules say to do. Don’t like it? Tough.

“Before Common Era (BCE)” and “Common Era (CE)” just happen to coincide with the birth of Christ.

BCE and CE are annoying childish affectations, that serve no purpose except rejecting the West’s Christian heritage. What happened in 1 AD, or 1 CE if you wish, that made it the epoch from which time is measured?
To: Mashood
Yeah, it was adopted because those uppity scholars from the former colonies of Europe weren’t generally Christians.

I first encountered BCE/CE around 1970--it has become more widely used of late.
I remember a professor telling me that we should use BCE and CE so as not to offend Muslims. She was Jewish.

One of *those* topics.
Tarshish
by Immanuel Velikovsky
References to the ships of Tarshish and to a place of that name, in the Old Testament, beginning with the time of Solomon (10th century), to the time of the prophets of the 8th and 7th centuries, make me think that by this designation the Cretan navigators and Crete itself were meant. The Minoan civilization survived until the great catastrophes of the 8th century and it would be strange if it and its maritive activities remained unmentioned in the Old Testament.
The usual explanation puts Tarshish in Spain, though other identifications are offered, like Tarsus, in Asia Minor. One of the old names for Knossos sounds like Tarshish.

It became a relatively common thing in academia in the late 1980s. I remember being told by my dissertation mentor that I had to stop using B.C./A.D. and use CE/BCE because that was the thing in common use in academia.
