I went ballistic when I first saw this.
The “NFL is rigged” conversation has been happening for years now, but with how things went down in the Jan. 29 AFC Championship Game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Cincinnati Bengals (specifically with the officiating), the talks have ratcheted up.
And now, former Houston Texans and Miami Dolphins running back Arian Foster is getting involved, throwing some fuel into the fire with one statement: “The league is scripted.”
Speaking on his “Macrodosing” podcast with PFT Commenter, Foster elaborated on an off-air comment alleging that NFL players receive a script.
“We were really dedicated to [the NFL’s script],” said Foster. “So, it was more, like, that’s what practice was about, practicing the script. This is what goes on. This is what we have to do … It’s like WWF, so we know what’s going to happen, but you still have to put on a show.”
This led to current Baltimore Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey also claiming that “giving up 200 to Chase was just me following the script.”
When I first saw this clip — I won’t lie — I freaked out.
But when you look deeper into it and watch more of the podcast for context (which I did), it sounds like everything was just a big goof. And by the way, great marketing from these guys to use this clip to promote their show amid all of the ratcheted up “NFL is rigged” talk. PFT Commenter even brilliantly said, “can we clip just that part?”
And they did, hilariously without any context, and now it has everybody talking about their show. Just genius.
Here’s the podcast in its entirety. I started at the mark where Foster and PFT started talking about the “script,” so you can get right into it and see everything with context.
Like I said, genius marketing move and it’s hilarious.
But with all of that being said, I could totally believe the NFL is rigged, for the simple fact that my Miami Dolphins haven’t won a Super Bowl since 1974 — I can rock with that narrative.
And if it is scripted … NFL, can my Phins get at least ONE here in my time of being alive?
For the love of God, just one!
Once the NFL embraced gambling, it was inevitable.
Studio football some people think it is real.
Exactly. The NFL has always been driven by money, and the gambling interests have more money than god.
They added a bunch of safety rules years ago and the games immediately got boring. Then after a little while, got better again. I’d say that’s when it became scripted.
There are very fewer bigger NFL fans than I am. I’ve always been a fan, but a real SUPER-FAN since I started playing Fantasy in 1993. I’ve been saying, for a few years now, that the outcomes of many games are pre-determined. I don’t think they FIX them all, just enough to make the “script” play out. And, enough to make SURE the casinos and betting house keep a safe profit margin.
I mean how do you miss that obvious drop on that early 4th down pass play in the NFC Championship Game? Even in real time I knew there was a good chance that wasn’t a good catch.
At least pro wrestling remains pure.
WWE the people...
I remember the “Smoking Man” on the X-Files saying: the Buffalo Bills will never be allowed to win a Super Bowl.
After not watching football for at least 20 years, it seems that the refs are in charge of the outcome.
And now NFL owners Jerry Jones and Robert Kraft are owners of the big on-line sports gamblings apps, are they not?
The last drive by KC was obviously rigged by the officials.
I doubt the dude who shoved Mahomes that caused the penalty was part of the script. He was devastated when they lost.
Also who told the Bengals to punt the ball right down the middle?
It was the correct call...but it didn’t have to be the call. That was the discretion of the refs. Brady recently made a comment about officiating during playoffs.
You mean it wasn't the Lions? Hey, we've got a chance!
that’s another story. I just know that player was devasted when they lost clearly blaming himself.
I’ll go one better: all current human events are being “fixed” by someone or some group.
That change to the embracing of gambling was really quick, wasn’t it?
