Some of us like the game won on the field while others would prefer the officials determine the winner.

Lots of rule changes, too. One can watch a slow motion of a called play three or four times at varying angles, close up, before it becomes clear - if then. Officials have to move quickly. It’s a tough job.

It’s pretty clear you don’t understand how sports books make money from sports betting. It certainly isn’t “by chance”, but they also do not care at all what the result of the game is. They make money by setting lines so that equal amounts are bet on each team and paying off winners with the losers’ money, but paying the winners less than what the losers bet. The last thing on earth they would want is rigged games. Rigged games would only reduce action and jeopardize their profits.

There’s never a scenario where Vegas makes no money. The whole point of the line is to even up the betting so Vegas makes money.

Actually big time gamblers hate the fix. Big time gamblers are all about knowing the little things that effect a game but most people don’t even know it happened. Screwing with that in anyway works against them. Fixes mess up everybody that’s not in on it.

The official ALWAYS are going to determine the winner. An incorrect non-call is just as much the officials deciding the game as an incorrect call. Suppose a team trails by 4 in the last 10 seconds of a game. They have the ball 4th and goal at the 5 yard line. A pass is thrown to an open receiver in the end zone, but a defender blatantly tackles the receiver well before the ball gets there. Isn’t the official deciding the game if he DOESN’T throw the flag? Should he not make the call so that “the players can decide the game”?

The rules are the rules. They are the same in the last minute as they are in the first quarter. A late hit out of bounds that would be penalized without any question in the first quarter (such as the hot on Mahoms) should likewise be penalized in the last minute. The timing is irrelevant.

It was decided on the field. That was a late hit. That’s been a late hit for years. Do not hit a guy that is out of bounds. Period. That’s the rule. The defender broke the rule. That all happened on the field. The penalty was legit, and necessary. There’s isn’t any judgment on that. Mahomes was out of bounds. No judgment. And got hit. No judgment. That has been an automatic penalty for years.

Sure. No one says the rules are different in different quarters. Or that a missed call is better or worse than a mistaken call.

Looked like a judgement call to me. I didn’t care about either team but those last 4 flags made it the worst game in FB history.

There’s never a scenario where Vegas makes no money.

A lot of bookkeepers provide a 100% refund in the case of a push, when it is a tie to the point spread. That's one reason why there are a lot of 1/2 point numbers in the spread, to make it impossible.

Then what is meant by “let the players decide”? Presumably, at least I took it so, they mean to not call penalties late in games. But not calling a penalty can decide a game just as much as calling one can, which is why I was just advocating for consistency in officiating- a call in the first quarter should be the same as in the last minute

Most calls are judgement calls, but that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be made. Had the same play occurred in the first quarter, the same penalty would have been called, and nobody would be questioning it. It was an easy call, and I commend the official for getting it right.

I don’t want to see non-calls in the last minute of games; I want to see correct calls. That applies at every other point in the game as well. This was a correct call.

There is legal gambling... And then there is gambling. The house always wins, but illegal gaming relies on outcomes that are certain. There are players and refs who are making those outcomes certain. You can lay bets on the entire game, on props and on scores during each quarter of the game... That’s where refs and players on the take come in. The idea that the NFL is completely clean is foolishness.

Remember that one ref that they found shaving points during basketball games... Tim Donaghy... He was the only one who ever shaved points and he did it all by himself with nobody else involved... That was nonsense... He colluded with others and many of those ‘others’ were connected with illegal gaming.

It happens. Anybody who thinks it doesn’t is being obtuse.

It isn’t a judgment call. The rule is very direct, player is established as out of bounds (ie foot hit the paint) is not to be hit.

And let’s keep in mind no calls have just as much effect as calls. Remember the Rams Saint NFC Championship where the Rams didn’t get called on a flagrant pass interference? And the Rams won the game to go get beat by the Pats in the SB.

If they hadn’t called the late hit, and Bengals won people would be yelling it was fixed. Much like they did after the Rams win. It was a late hit. The flag had to happen.

The game was rigged. They needed KC to get into the Super Bowl. The only reason I watched parts of the game was I had a cold and couldn’t go play golf. Worst two games I have ever watched.

Remember betting is way more complicated than we generally put it. You can take the points, you can not, there’s the over under, prop bets. I guarantee Vegas made money.

Yes, plays are reviewable, but some are not reversable, like offensive holding which happens nearly every play to some extent, different referees call it more closely than others, which leads to accusations of the game being rigged, same goes for defensive holding, DB’s routinely rough up WR’s especially close the line of scrimmage, sometimes it’s called sometimes it’s not and it’s not reviewable or reversible.

These gray areas are where referees could influence the outcome, I don’t think it’s happening but I could see how people think it is.

You mean that Rams Super Bowl win that had around 4 invisible holding fouls on the game winning drive?

I remember the “Smoking Man” on the X-Files saying: the Buffalo Bills will never be allowed to win a Super Bowl.

He didn’t say anything about Houston? 🤔
