You've probably heard that Cosmos, the new version starring Neil deGrasse Tyson, is causing waves because it's on FOX, and it actually talks about (gasp!) evolution. But this week, Christians upped the ante on crazy by demanding "equal time" for creationists. You know, because they need things to be "balanced." In his typically incisive style, deGrasse explained one reason why that's a silly idea. You dont talk about the spherical Earth with NASA, and then say lets give equal time to the flat Earthers..."

Why do you say fringe religion of creationism? Do you not know that MAINstream religion is all about believing in a supreme creator and that up until recently this country was essentially a Christian one? Meaning that a majority of the people living here had a belief in God...now it’s called “fringe” wow.
I don’t understand why FOX picked this up to begin with. It’s not like if fits in with any of their other programming.
Neil equates religious faith (any) to flat earth
How much contempt he has for the great majority of the human race and its recorded history
It’s not about making another show, its about getting the network to broadcast it
Note that I said creationism, not Christianity.
As far as I can tell, creationism is the belief that the book of Genesis is a literal and exact account of the beginning of the world, with the concurrent belief that anyone who says otherwise (like scientists who devote their lives to studying the physical world) is a member of some vast conspiracy. Many attributes of creationists do not align with Christians--for instance, by bearing false witness (proscribed by the Ten Commandments) when they claim that all scientists are liars who invent data. Furthermore, I think they also violate the Ten Commandments by worshipping the earth instead of the creator of the entire universe, who was very clear on whom He expects us to worship.
Correct, the young earth creationist movement is itself pretty “young” and is distinctly a minority within Christianity. Of course, they will respond that their belief is the True Doctrine and everyone else is an infidel. Nothing new there.
It's consistent with the works of God, and that "works" for me.
Does anyone still think FOX is not leftist?
FOX did not just pick it up , they planned and developed it and funded it.
I keep seeing that “creationists demand equal time”. Yet, once again I followed the link and the links within it and didn’t find evidence that creationists demand equal time (a blog, a video, a quote, a boycott organization page). I have seen complaints about the show wrt evolution, but nobody calling for the show to be shut down or to provide equal time. The closest I’ve seen is “it would be nice if they put on a scientist with an alternate view” - hardly a demand for equal time.
The headlines should be “Liberals Demand that You Think Creationists act the way Liberals Act”
I was raised going to church two times on Sunday and sometimes Wednesdays and any Christian church I had been in pretty much taught and believed in a literal Genesis. I have since formed my own opinion on certain things,as many others who do in-depth study with an open mind, much to the chagrin of my folks:)
Which still begs the question why? FOX wouldn't be the first place I'd go to watch a science show, any more than NBC, CBS, or ABC.
I agree - UNLESS, the government is somehow subsidizing this show.
Creationists SHOULD put forth an equivalent offering, of the caliber of the Creation Museum. High enough quality to bother the atheists.
One of the “indicators” of how good the Creation museum was done was the anxiety of the atheists that toured it - “I’m concerned...it was very well done.”
What I believe in must be mandatory
And paid for, preferably, by the people who oppose it.
“Man did not evolve. Man was created by God in his image.”
Agreed, but God probably used evolution as his method of doing that.
That's the Creationista view of evolution. As others here have posted, there's NOTHING in science or evolution which precludes God, period. Anybody who states "there is no God" immediately loses me. How do you prove a negative ?
“Anybody who states “there is no God” immediately loses me. How do you prove a negative ?”
The same way you prove there’s a God.
Yeah, a really young movement, like, no older than the Bible itself, huh? Also besides Bishop Ussher, who calculated the 4004 BC biblical chronologies from Adam and Eve thru Jesus Christ, we also have the #1 scientist of all time, Sir Isaac Newton hisself, who also believed the literal Genesis account and calculated the ages too.
