Actually, of course, some day I really should Freep with the Great Jim Robinson. So it's on my list of things to do.
Well, LOL, you're welcome *again,* but really I do enjoy playing host, and I was dying frankly to find a size 5 girl for that April Cornell coat too! And a Republican girl at that, you can't beat that.
It's regrettable about the Library of Congress, for that really is a must-see place. For next time. And Lori's right about the WWII memorial: it's must easier to visit when there's not 6 inches of snow on the ground!
Yep ... it is a must to Freep with Jim Robinson.
Why not plan a trip west in September. We have our annual picnic the second Saturday in September. We have a Support the Troops FReep the Friday night before, then dinner afterwards.
PS:
We are hoping to get back to DC in '09.
Jim Robinson says we should find a reason to go there in the spring. He didn't do much sightseeing. The snow really slowed him down.
Thank you for the beautiful poem and graphic!
Great plan! Turbojet and I want to take another trip to DC in the Spring to do the sightseeing we didn't get to do this last time. I want to go when the cherry trees are in bloom. April, I think? Anyone know for sure?
The AAA tour book says:
"A burst of pale pink flowers begins one of the city's most cherished events. The National Cherry Blossom Festival in early April blah blah. The more than 6000 cherry trees that line the Tidal Basin near the Thomas Jefferson Memorial are illuminated at night during their approx weeklong blooming season so their delicate beauty is always visible."
Looks like April is the time to visit.
PS
Marissa loves to wear her new coat. I will not allow her to wear it to school; it may grow legs.
We will probably go to dinner tonight and she will wear it. She will probably wear it to the Rally on Friday night. She did wear her hat to school two days. :)
I'm getting ready to head out for the day, so I'll see ya'll sometime manana.
Have a nice evening, Meekie.
See ya tomorrow.
A young redhead goes into the doctor's office and says that her body hurts wherever she touches it.
Impossible," says the doctor. "Show me."
She takes her finger and pushes her elbow and screams in agony. She pushes her knee and screams, pushes her ankle and screams. Everywhere she touches makes her scream.
The doctor says, "You're not really a redhead, are you?"
"No," she says, "I'm actually a blonde.
"I thought so," the doctor says. "Your finger is broken".
"I will not allow her to wear it to school; it may grow legs."
LOL, well, at the rate little girls grow, we can only hope it will still fit her next year too. It's a 5/6, so maybe it will.
Jen, I can tell you for a fact that no one for a fact knows when they'll bloom -- it varies every year. Late March to early/mid April: they schedule the Cherry Blossom festival for the most likely times, but one never knows for sure.
Still, Washington is great that time of year: temperatures typically in the high 50s to high 60s.
It has been my experience that coming for the cherry blossoms is mostly a photographic event.
Those who are expecting spring-like temperatures ore often disappointed when the weather turns chill and blustery.
I would recommend mid-May if you can. The weather is usually mild, and most kids are not yet out of school.
If, on the other hand, you are traveling with school-age children, be advised that many other parents think of the same thing, at exactly the same time.
Jen, I have to agree with this advice. (Please understand that I'm originally from Vermont, so what's pleasant weather to me might well be chilly for you!) Plus, it's less mobbed in May. Hotel prices rise during cherry blossom time. (But, on the other hand, the blossoms are very beautiful . . . .) For my $, May or late September are best here.
It has been my experience that most people get into trouble because they confuse temptation with opportunity.
Tagline for you, Mayor.
She wore it to dinner tonight and acted the young lady.
I think it will still fit next year but I'm letting her wear it now. I would hate for her to outgrow it without getting to enjoy it.
Did I say Thank You!!!
"Did I say Thank You!!!" LOL, um, yup, like a thousand times.
I don't like our casual dress code in my office because now that people don't have to wear suits, they behave a tad less formally and professionally. I thought of that when I read "She wore it to dinner tonight and acted the young lady." I always behaved better (well, LOL, "better" is a relative term) when I was a young girl (by all reports, I was quite a handful) when I wore a dress.
