Taliban free speech
By Bill RoggioMarch 3, 2010 2:09 PM

Were you aware that the Taliban are staunch defenders of freedom of speech and the press? Don’t believe, me just read the Taliban’s latest statement on the Afghan government’s proposed restrictions on press coverage of Taliban attacks. The statement, originally published at The Voice of Jihad, the Taliban’s website, and reprinted below, is a curious mix of concern over the erosion of civil liberties and press freedoms that could have been written by a panel of members of the American Civil Liberty Union and Reporters Without Frontiers, and the standard Taliban frothing at the mouth over “puppets” and “occupiers.”

Paris: ‘Baghdad ring’ on trial
[end of article]
Prosecutors believe 1,000 illegal migrants paid members of the “Baghdad ring” between early 2007 and mid-2008 to reach northern Europe.
Police from 10 European countries in June arrested 105 people as part of an operation to dismantle the trafficking ring. Investigators had said the raids marked the biggest joint operation against illegal immigration staged by the European Union.

Doubts are raised about fault lines near Diablo Canyon, up for license renewal
By David Sneed
San Luis Obispo Tribune
Published: Thursday, Mar. 04, 2010
Concerns about earthquakes again dominated federal hearings held Wednesday in San Luis Obispo to discuss extending the operating life of Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant by an additional 20 years.

However, numerous speakers said they are nervous about a newly discovered fault just offshore of the plant the Shoreline Fault. It magnifies concerns they already had about another fault, the Hosgri, which is further offshore.

Singapore warns of terror threat in Malacca Strait
SINGAPORE Singapore’s Navy warned that a terrorist group is planning attacks on oil tankers in the Malacca Straits, one of the world’s busiest shipping lanes.

“The terrorists’ intent is probably to achieve widespread publicity and showcase that it remains a viable group,” the Navy advisory said. “However, this information does not preclude possible attacks on other large vessels with dangerous cargo.”
The Navy did not say which terrorist group is planning the attacks. Spokesmen at the Defense Ministry and the Information Fusion Centre were not immediately available for comment.

Palestinian Authority: Direct the Heat Toward Israel
To distract attention from charges of financial corruption and embarrassing sexual scandals, the Palestinian leadership in the West Bank has stepped up its anti-Israel rhetoric. Allegations of ethnic cleansing, destruction and desecration of Islamic religious sites, apartheid, racism, land theft and conducting medical experiments on Palestinian prisoners are directed every day toward Israel by Abbas and his top officials and spokesmen.
These charges are often backed up by threats to launch a third intifada or to resume suicide bombings against Israel.

Thanks - very happy to see this new thread!
I found another lack of prosecution for people threatening either Jews/airlines or both.
Mansor Mohammad Asad made international news in January after being pulled off of a Detroit-bound flight at Miami International Airport for yelling, “I want to kill all the Jews.” Thursday, Asad was given a three years probation and was barred from public transportation for the incident.
Perhaps anther dry run
Royal Air Force (RAF) officials were forced to send two of their Typhoon jets to assist an American Airlines flight this week, after a female passenger attempted to gain access to the flight deck.
The incident took place on flight AA078, which was making its way to Londons Heathrow airport from Dallas-Fort Worth, with approximately 160 passengers and 12 crew members.
Metropolitan Police arrested the woman shortly after the plane landed, but later claimed that she had not imposed a terror threat to the Boeing 767-300.
Wondering how trying to enter the flight deck does not impose a threat?
Thanks very much for the ping, granny. Great thread. Thanks to all posters/linkers/researchers/educators.
Thanks for the “Son of Hamas” info, cranked. Very interesting.
Thread BUMP!
Police are questioning a British Airways worker about terrorist fundraising, it emerged today.
The 30-year-old man was arrested at one of the company’s offices in Newcastle on Thursday. He is being held at a central London police station after detectives were granted more time to question him at a court hearing on Saturday.
A spokesman for British Airways confirmed the arrest. “We take matters relating to security extremely seriously and as a responsible company always co-operate fully with the police,” he said.
The Sun reported that the man worked in one of BA’s call centres, taking passenger bookings. Scotland Yard said searches were carried out at one of the company’s offices.
Special Report February 28, 2010
At the time of Israel’s bombardment of the Syrian-Iranian plutonium plant under construction in northern Syria on September 2007, 45 tons of North Korean yellowcake, enough for several nuclear bombs, was on its way to the plant, Japanese intelligence sources have revealed.
snip
Two years later, in the summer of 2009, that same yellowcake consignment was secretly reshipped to Iran, attesting to the integral nuclear partnership between Tehran and Damascus.
So, even without 1,950 kilo- stock of enriched uranium Iran has produced at Natanz, the Islamic Republic has piled up enough material to make three or five bombs or warheads. Revelation of the North Korean delivery suggests Tehran may have more secret enriched uranium hoards, probably from black market sources, such as Central Asia.
The New York Times Sunday, Feb. 28, reported that IAEA inspectors were taken by surprise two weeks ago when Iran moved almost its entire fuel stockpile in Natanz above ground.
Tons of explosives stolen
An armed group hijacked a tractor-trailer truck transporting 18 tons of explosives on the Monterrey-Saltillo highway near Monterrey, Nuevo Leon. The trucks two operators were abducted and are missing. Only the trucks tractor has been located by the federal agents where it was abandoned near Saltillo, the capital city of neighboring Coahuila. The missing cargo of explosives, used in mining operations, was originally destined for Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.
Thanks much. This is great!
