Zip guns are dangerous and shockingly easy to make, according to police. One New Haven resident has been making them and has been doing it for a while. These homemade weapons were powerful enough to kill. New Haven police found a zip gun on one of three juveniles arrested in a pair of East Rock robberies over the weekend. Detectives later arrested a fourth teen on Mountain Ridge Terrace. The juvenile, whose name is not being released due to his age, was accused of making and selling up to a dozen different fully functioning zip guns for $200 apiece. According...

Found this little gem today, thanks to Say Uncle. A $2 Zip gun. What you need? Rubber dishwashing gloves A 3/8ths inch female to female coupling A 2″ 3/8ths inch pipe A 3/8ths to 1/4-inch adapter A drill bit wrapped in duct tape (a 10- to 16-penny nail or similar will suffice in lieu of the drill bit) A round of 9mm ammo, with the case wrapped in duct tape. Want to know the best part? If you make this for your personal use only, it’s completely legal. You can’t sell it or give it away, because that would be...

LAKE WORTH, Fla. -- Manny Garrido liked to tinker. But the 23-year-old may have tinkered one too many times when he built his own handgun — and promptly shot himself in the leg with it. Bored, broke and unable to drive on a license suspended after a car crash, Garrido passed time building things. Resources weren't hard to find in his father's Lake Worth backyard, where you could often hear the buzz of impact wrenches and low growl of classic cars, like dad's '87 'Vette or '84 Trans-Am. But it was his last mechanical project that landed him in jail....

NEW HAVEN — SNIPPET: "Thompson was charged over the weekend with the June 6 carjacking at Church and Chapel streets and is under investigation for allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail over the fence at the Yale power plant at 18 Tower Parkway June 7. He told Detective Wayne Bullock that Allah instructed him how to “melt down” the plant, according to documents filed in court Monday. It didn’t cause any damage." SNIPPET: "Police recovered the stolen Nissan Sentra. After Thompson’s confession, bomb technicians spent hours in a wooded grove near the Kimberly Avenue bridge after he claimed he had buried...
