President Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin will speak by phone Saturday as US officials warn that Russia may launch an invasion of Ukraine within days. A White House official told The Post “they will be speaking Saturday morning. Russia proposed a call Monday. We counter-proposed Saturday, and they accepted.”

S President Joe Biden will phone Russian President Vladimir Putin on Saturday evening Moscow time, the Kremlin said Friday. The call came after a written request of the White House, and the two leaders are supposed to discuss the current tensions over Ukraine. “The American side asked for a conversation with President Putin, and it will take place tomorrow evening Moscow time,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. Biden left the White House on Friday afternoon for the presidential retreat at Camp David, Maryland. He is supposed to stay there over the weekend.

Senator Chris Coons (D-DE) said Tuesday on MSNBC’s “Deadline” that President Joe Biden “masterfully pulled together” NATO to block Russian President Vladimir Putin from invading Ukraine. Coons said, “I think it’s important that President Biden made it perfectly clear that if there is further aggression by Russia into Ukraine, the Nord Stream 2 pipeline which has been constructed over many years and is a prize of real significance to Putin, that pipeline will be stopped.”

Kremlin foreign policy aide Yuri Ushakov has revealed details of the conversation between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Joe Biden shortly after the phone talks concluded on Saturday evening. Speaking to reporters during a media briefing, Ushakov revealed that the talks were staged on Washington’s request with the US citing fears of an allegedly imminent ‘invasion’ of Ukraine by Russia. The Putin-Biden talks were originally scheduled to take place on Monday, the official added. “The conversation came amid an atmosphere of unprecedented hysteria by US officials over Russia’s supposedly imminent ‘invasion’ of Ukraine,” Ushakov stated.
