It has been dubbed “Witi-Leaks” – an explosive insight into Donald Trump’s peace negotiations that could blow the lid off the plan to end the war in Ukraine.
Steve Witkoff, Mr Trump’s peace envoy, was caught red-handed coaching the Russian side on how to appeal to his boss’s better nature, according to the transcripts of several phone calls that were leaked on Tuesday evening.
Mr Witkoff, a former New York real estate developer turned high-level diplomat, faced criticism for his lack of experience at the coalface of international affairs.
In discussions with The Telegraph, European sources have called him names, such as “Dumbkoff”, while Ukrainian officials have questioned his apparent closeness to Russia.
Despite having frustrated many of Ukraine’s allies, Mr Witkoff continues to act as Mr Trump’s main go-between with Vladimir Putin, the Russian president.
Several parties may have wanted to leak details of the envoy’s calls with Yuri Ushakov, the Kremlin’s top foreign policy aide, and a separate conversation between Mr Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev, Putin’s point man in the peace talks.

Witkoff carries a lot of weight, has a lot of leeway, can be forgiven for almost anything.
He did the deal on Gaza and has come the closest than most on Ukraine, let him continue what he is doing.

Interesting how all the “experts” complain about Witkoff’s lack of experience, yet these so called experts and European governments weren’t able to bring an end to the conflict with their accepted expert negotiators.
I’d like the CIA and the FBI to be disbanded and the ground salted. They do more harm than good. Put all the employees on a “Do Not Hire list”.

There needs to be a Do Not Rehire Executive Order that eliminates all Obama Army and White Hospice from any federal government position consideration -- from the lowliest DEI hire to the Federal Judiciary; and a Do Not Rehire Act that makes that permanent.

And let’s not forget that Witkoff’s message shouldn’t be viewed in isolation. It’s not uncommon in a negotiating team to have some members taking a more sympathetic position with one party while others play the same role with the other party. It’s sort of a version of good-cop bad-cop.
Witkoff seems to have been successful in establishing trust with the Kremlin so it would make sense that he would be used for certain communications. Others within the team may have established a similar rapport with the Ukrainians. That doesn’t mean either contingent is calling the shots or working at cross purposes.

How does the author know that Witkoff wasn’t just doing what Trump told him to do?
This is a “gotcha” non-story.
Well... It always is the Russians and you can’t ever trust them.
No the war will soon be a thing of the past. Trump holds all the cards and he wants it that way.
