Reddit’s army of retail traders might not have been only force behind the unprecedented GameStop rally that turned Wall Street upside down, new data show. GameStop was “notably absent” from the list of 10 stocks that retail investors bought the most in January despite the video-game retailer being at the forefront of a supposed market revolution, according to JP Morgan analysts. “Although retail buying was portrayed as the main driver of the extreme price rally experienced by some stocks, the actual picture may be much more nuanced,” Peng Cheng, the megabank’s head of machine learning strategies, wrote in a research...

The price of silver is rallying as the online trading movement fueling the rise of unloved shares like GameStop took a shine to the precious metal. Silver futures jumped more than 10 percent on Monday, the most in 11 years, after briefly rising above $30 an ounce in early trading, following strong gains over the weekend. On Twitter, #silversqueeze was trending as investors turned their attention to the latest market strategy to emerge from the “WallStreetBets” forum on Reddit. The online army of Reddit traders have over the past week rallied to defend out-of-favor companies such as GameStop and AMC,...

When stories as big as London's first break, it's obvious you'll cover nothing else. The topic picks you, rather than the usual other way around. Yesterday, I asked WRKO/Boston morning hosts Peter Blute and Scott Allen Miller whether they'd even considered discussing another issue on Friday's show. Their answer: a definite no. But what about this weekend? That's where it gets trickier, not just for talk radio, but for the blogosphere as well. It seems appropriate to cover other stories today, with an eye on the latest London developments, but the financial and other specialty programs on talk radio today...

Newsweek On Air, a weekly radio newshour (also available via podcast), has been cancelled by Boston affiliate WRKO on the heels of the revelation of their untrue story that claimed Guantanamo Bay interrogators flushed the Koran down a toilet in an attempt to secure cooperation from prisoners there.Newsweek On Air senior editor and host David Alpern says that the program (broadcast Sundays in most markets) avoided the print publication's error, and in next week's show will examine what went wrong in the editorial process.Other stations that carry Newsweek On Air include WNYC/New York, WTOP/Washington, KCBS/San Francisco, WSB/Atlanta and the Armed...

AS WE FORGE AHEAD I don’t see how it’s avoidable, so I think that every president we have for the rest of our lives will be Republican. The Democrats are not so much a party as a cult. I don't see them changing their devious behavior anytime soon. How are the Democrats who are so used to lying and covering up and having ridiculous un-American views to begin with going to survive even greater awareness of their deep flaws beyond this election? The technology isn’t getting worse and the information river is not slowing. At this rate, people running for...
