(Radio's) Newsweek On Air cancelled in Boston
Ramblings' Journal ^ | 5.16.05 | Michael King

Posted on 05/16/2005 2:12:38 PM PDT by mhking

Newsweek On Air, a weekly radio newshour (also available via podcast), has been cancelled by Boston affiliate WRKO on the heels of the revelation of their untrue story that claimed Guantanamo Bay interrogators flushed the Koran down a toilet in an attempt to secure cooperation from prisoners there.

Newsweek On Air senior editor and host David Alpern says that the program (broadcast Sundays in most markets) avoided the print publication's error, and in next week's show will examine what went wrong in the editorial process.

Other stations that carry Newsweek On Air include WNYC/New York, WTOP/Washington, KCBS/San Francisco, WSB/Atlanta and the Armed Forces Radio Network. No word about the show's status on any of those outlets presently.

Time to start a formal BOYCOTT of Newsweek and its major advertisers. I had some other suggestions (like picking up copies of this rag off the racks) but, on further consideration, I do not want to suggest any illegal conduct. Please, please, don't do anything illegal.

However, I think that some Islamic terrorists may take action themselves against this publication. If I owned a store selling magazines, I might remove all copies to prevent violence in my shop.

WRKO, though in a liberal land, is a hallmark of Conservatism there. And has been since I can remember.

Thank you for the information. Knowing WRKO is a conservative station makes the cancelling of the Newsweek Show puts a different light on the event.

It is nice to know that there is conservative glow in the liberal black hole of Boston.

I think the terrorists will be disappointed, rather, that the story wasn't true. Not that the facts would stop them from spreading the story anyway (just like Newsweak!).

Armed Forces Radio Network? How much PC crap is being beamed at our military? How many will be killed by IEDs as a result of Newsweek's treason?

Two thoughts:

1. How many stories about the CLinton Administration did the ever-so-balanced MSM have to retract?

2. Do you think Michael Isikoff would publish anything any of us called up and told him anything that was not seconded or verifiable?

"You don't have a higher duty.  No.  No.  You're a reporter!"  After some hemming and hawing, Peter Jennings agreed.  Should American reporters worry about the death of American troops?  No -- their only loyalty is to the story. (emphasis added) excerp from an episode of PBS's program, "Ethics in America," as reported by Glenn Reynolds.

I wonder why the American Public thinks the MSM doesn't give a rusty about our troops or the country's security.

Anyone here think this is what the founders had in mind with a free press and the 1st Amendment? What would Washington, Jefferson, Madison and Franklin have to say about this?

Do Americans have a higher calling to Patriotism? Or is it just the journalists who are able to ignore this?

- However, I think that some Islamic terrorists may take action themselves against this publication.

We should pre-empt that and extradit Isikoff and his editors to Afghanistan to be prosecuted for negligent homicide in the deaths of the Afghans who died.

We have no freedom of speech to cry "fire" in a crowded theater when there is no fire. That is a negligent act when done by an adult. (I'd go easier on a 13 year old kid maybe.)
