Two are dead and another injured after around 100 shots were fired into a crowd in Philadelphia on the Fourth of July. The shooting occurred just after 10:30 p.m. in front of the Premiere Bande store on 60th Street, where people had gathered for a cookout hosted by the owner of the fashion brand, according to NBC 10 Philadelphia. What is going on here? Early Saturday morning two people were shot, allegedly inside the CHOP zone. One of the people shot was a 19-year-old man who died from his injuries. The other person was a man in his 30s who was taken to the hospital by CHOP medics. That second victim has now come forward and spoken to KIRO 7 news. His name is DeJuan Young and he claims he was shot one block outside CHOP by either Proud Boys or the KKK. He heard the first shooting and decided to leave. He reached 11th and Pike when a...

Twenty years ago tonight, at approximately three thirty in the morning on December 26, 1985, I heard odd noises and felt as if I had fallen out of bed. I opened my eyes to a scene of such extraordinary horror that I am still suffering from the effects of that moment, two decades later. What I saw before me was a small room like the interior of a tent, populated by enormous insects. These insects were at once strange, distant-seeming creatures, totally unlike me and not communicating any sense of the human at all, and yet at the same time...

    Workers' Comp Executive ^ | October 18, 2005 | Dale Debber
The Second District Court of Appeals ruled late yesterday that illegal aliens who obtain employment dishonestly are still entitled to workers comp benefits. The ruling (Farmer Brothers Coffee v. WCAB, Rafael Ruiz) leaves employers, even those who do not knowingly hire illegal aliens, on the hook for the costs of their workers comp benefits both medical and indemnity. The case involves one Rafael Ruiz who was injured in 2002 while working for Farmer Brothers Coffee. During the deposition process Ruiz admitted -- unbeknownst to Farmers Brothers -- to using a false social security and green card to obtain employment. Based...

NEW YORK (AP) - A federal judge Friday approved a settlement by which the nation's biggest brokerage firms will pay $1.4 billion to resolve charges they gave biased stock ratings. Calling the deal fair, adequate and in the public interest, Judge William H. Pauley said it will bring "sweeping institutional reform of equity research in the investment banking industry in the United States." The settlement, first announced nearly a year ago, settles charges by regulators that the firms misled investors by inflating stock ratings to help their firms win investment banking business. The deal resulted after investigators unearthed e-mails...
