Among the many conspiracy theories being raised by the left following the shooting of Donald Trump on July 13, particularly by Joy Behar, one of the strangest is the ongoing demands for more of Trump's medical records. They have suggested everything from the theory that Trump was never struck by a bullet at all to the idea that he has been wearing an "oversized" bandage on his ear to elicit sympathy. One of the few people who would know for sure is Dr. Ronny Jackson, who has been the official White House physician to multiple presidents including Trump, and has...

Bandages infused with casein, a protein that occurs naturally in cow's milk, significantly improved wound healing in rats compared to those in control groups, according to a study. The study is the first to test casein's reputed healing benefits on an animal model. The promising results suggest that casein, which is cheap, abundant and has antimicrobial properties, has potential to replace expensive materials such as silver in wound dressings. Casein is a protein found in the milk of mammals and is most abundant in cow's milk, where it makes up to 80% of the substance. In the last decade, interest...

It’s a surprisingly straightforward invention that could go a long way toward saving lives on the battlefield—a syringe-like device that essentially injects bandages into deep wounds to prevent bleeding. Developed by the Combat Casualty Care Research Program of the U.S. Army Medical Research and Materiel Command at Fort Detrick, Md., the XSTAT looks like a large syringe and contains small cellulose sponges that, once injected, expand to fill a wound. Designed for use against large, deep injuries, it’s intended to be used on wounds around joints such as the shoulder or groin, where medics couldn’t apply a tourniquet, or wounds...

When a soldier is shot on the battlefield, the emergency treatment can seem as brutal as the injury itself. A medic must pack gauze directly into the wound cavity, sometimes as deep as 5 inches into the body, to stop bleeding from an artery. It’s an agonizing process that doesn't always work--if bleeding hasn't stopped after three minutes of applying direct pressure, the medic must pull out all the gauze and start over again. It’s so painful, “you take the guy’s gun away first,” says former U.S. Army Special Operations medic John Steinbaugh. Even with this emergency treatment, many soldiers...

here are essentially two ways to heal a wound: 1) Primary intent: bringing the wound edges together via bandage, suture, or glue. 2) Secondary intent: allowing the wound to heal “as is” when primary intent is not indicated (such as a very contaminated, dirty wound with multiple deep entry points). It’s important to close a wound by primary intent for several reasons: 1) Hemostasis (stopping bleeding): because if you lacerated a vessel with your injury, you will need to ligate it somehow. Granted, if you lacerate a major artery, you will just need to apply pressure because ligating it may...

Police said the owner confronted the suspects with a shotgun and fired a shot. Several minutes later, officers received a call from Akron General Medical Center about a patient with a gunshot wound to the left arm. Johnny R. Rollyson, 19, of Beardsley...

America’s gun-control proponents might want to consider shooting (pun intended) this memo to Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley. “Dear Mayor Daley: Please shut up. You ain’t helping us.” Is there anyone doing more damage for advocates of gun control than Daley? The man is a walking billboard for right-to-carry laws. Anyone needing proof of that might want to read the statements he made in the wake of an 80-year-old Chicago man fatally shooting a career criminal who invaded his home. The background story goes like this: The elderly man is a Korean War veteran who bought a handgun after three...

WASHINGTON, Sept. 17, 2007 – On Jan. 29, 2006, a roadside-bomb explosion near Taji, Iraq, started one TV news personality on a journey from war correspondent to casualty of war, and finally to co-founder of a fund-raising organization to improve awareness about traumatic brain injury. ABC news reporter Bob Woodruff, left, and Rene Bardorf, executive director of the Bob Woodruff Family Fund for Traumatic Brain Injury, meet with Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England in July 2007. Woodruff and his family established the fund after he suffered a traumatic brain injury in January 2006 while covering the war in Iraq....

A new ARG poll has finished slouching to Bethlehem, and like all ARG polls it shows numbers for McCain that are oddly undisastrous. I think this is the perfect time for the McCain campaign to employ a new campaign slogan: “It’s Only a Flesh Wound!”

AN American high school football coach has been reprimanded for licking the bleeding wounds of student athletes. The Oregon Teacher Standards and Practices Commission placed Scott Reed, 34, on two years probation and ordered the coach, who is also a science teacher, to attend a class on the risks of blood-borne pathogens. Last year, Reed gave students at Central Linn High School near Eugene, Oregon, a pep talk about a coach who had licked and healed players' wounds so that they could rejoin the game. After the talk, he bent down and licked a cut on a track athlete's knee,...
