Among the many conspiracy theories being raised by the left following the shooting of Donald Trump on July 13, particularly by Joy Behar, one of the strangest is the ongoing demands for more of Trump's medical records. They have suggested everything from the theory that Trump was never struck by a bullet at all to the idea that he has been wearing an "oversized" bandage on his ear to elicit sympathy. One of the few people who would know for sure is Dr. Ronny Jackson, who has been the official White House physician to multiple presidents including Trump, and has been inspecting Trump's progress almost daily since then. Despite medical records being private by definition, Jackson issued a statement yesterday detailing the nature of the wound and the former President's rate of recovery. In what will no doubt come as a terrible blow to the ladies of The View, Jackson described the wound as being typical of what one would expect to see from a gunshot wound to that part of the body and it is healing at a normal pace. Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump is “doing well” and recovering after a bullet fired by failed assassin Thomas Matthew Crooks came “less than a quarter of an inch from entering his head,” former White House physician and current Congressman Ronny Jackson said in a statement issued Saturday.
“As reported and witnessed by the entire world, he sustained a gunshot wound to the right ear from a high-powered rifle used by the would be assassin,” wrote Jackson, (R-Texas), noting he examined Trump the night he was shot.
“The bullet track produced a 2 cm wide wound that extended down to the cartilaginous surface of the ear,” Jackson wrote. “There was initially significant bleeding, followed by marked swelling of the entire upper ear.”
Even for those with no medical training, this probably doesn't sound particularly surprising to most people. The bullet pierced the upper end of Trump's ear after grazing along the inner surface of the ear. The ear is considered to be a particularly hemorrhagic part of the body, meaning that it bleeds more profusely and over a longer period of time because of the number of blood vessels that run very close to the surface. Trump's ear bled quite a bit initially and was expected to continue seeping for days until the wound fully closed. Jackson said that as of Friday, the wound was still "bleeding intermittently." There was also the normal concern over the possibility of infection if it wasn't kept covered and cleaned regularly.
In other words, there was nothing surprising about the need for a bandage for quite a few days after the shooting to anyone who isn't a paranoid, politically motivated conspiracy theorist. The injury wasn't serious enough to require hospitalization or to keep Trump off the campaign trail, but it did require standard care and continued monitoring, if only out of an abundance of caution.
However, that doesn't mean that the calls for a full release of Trump's medical records are all coming from conspiracy theorists. CNN's Dr. Sanjay Gupta says that more information is required, though perhaps for not entirely partisan reasons. He points out that gunshot wounds in that location carry the risk of additional injuries that may not be immediately obvious.
CNN’s chief medical correspondent is calling for a “public assessment” of GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump’s injuries after the attempt on his life, arguing that voters deserve to know the results of a medical evaluation.
“A full public assessment of Trump’s injuries is necessary, for both the former president’s own health and the clarity it can provide for voters about the recovery of the man who could become president of the United States once again,” neurosurgeon Dr. Sanjay Gupta wrote in a Friday article.
“The concern is that gunshot blasts near the head can cause injuries that aren’t immediately noticeable, such as bleeding in or on the brain, damage to the inner ear or even psychological trauma.”
It's difficult to accuse Dr. Gupta of engaging in conspiracy theories here. Not being a doctor myself, I will confess that none of the possibilities he suggested came to my mind, but I suppose they make sense. Any bullet can fragment upon impact, potentially resulting in damage to the inner ear that might not be immediately obvious. (Though I imagine they would have discovered that by now.) And I guess any impact in the vicinity of the skull could lead to "bleeding in or on the brain," which definitely sounds risky. I suppose some sort of scan would have to be performed to rule that out entirely.
The bottom line here doesn't have anything to do with politics, or at least not directly. The man was shot. That's serious business. And if you are worried about Trump losing his life to an assassin, you would probably also be concerned about ensuring that he didn't suffer any less obvious injuries. He needs to remain in top fighting shape all the way up until the election. A little paranoia in terms of his medical situation might not be unwarranted.
They did a CT scan in Butler the day Trump was shot. This is all naked, cynical politics.
“...even psychological trauma”
EVEN??? What an idiot.
My favorite conspiracy theories by leftist idiots is that Trump STAGED the shooting.
Not the Alphabet agencies, but Trump himself.
The steaming pile of USA Today ran an op-ed about how Trump may be suffering from PTSD and thus should be tested and not suitable for the Presidency.
“...gunshot blasts near the head can cause injuries...”
-
The gunshot “blast” was not near his head.
"Kneepads" Harris can elicit sympathy by wearing an oversized bandage on the back of her head to emphasize her bed headboard trauma from "dating" Willie Brown back in the day.
Spit on that thang, Kammy!
Doesn’t sound as if a “blast” causing the potential damage described was near his head.
Only the leftist narrative is permitted to be “true.” Anything that contradicts the narrative is automatically deemed to be “false”, “misinformation”, or “lies” and must be exterminated. That’s the “tolerant”, “fact-based” Left for you. They’re dangerously psychotic.
Exactly. I demand a CT scan for Harris. I bet we will already see signs of dementia.
“They did a CT scan in Butler the day Trump was shot”
^
I was wondering if a supersonic bullet (which this was) could produce damage to the eardrum while passing-by at ¼-inch.
The muzzle “blast” was too distant to affect attendees.
“That’s the “tolerant”, “fact-based” Left for you.”

...”unproven”...
"OK. Let's all synchronize our watches. At exactly **** I will turn my head to the right and you shoot. It will just miss me and at most I'll just get hit in the ear. It'll be great."
The only way to solve this is to have the press line up and have a patsy reenact the shooting
dont forget knee pad bruises
Gupta concerns might be valid had the a gun been fired close to Trumps head and the were noise/concussion wave sounds for inner ear and brain injury but not from a bullet wizzing by fired from 130+ yards away grazing the ear not the skull.
These are the same idiots who, up until almost 3 weeks ago, would not admit that SloJoe was in the advanced stages of dementia for the better part of the last decade. Or who believed that jet lag could last 12 days.
I found it interesting that doctor Jackson observed that the bullet traveled between the back of the ear and the skull while making contact with the cartilaginous body of the ear from the back side. Incredibly close call, some say miraculously so.
Another remarkably stupid article by people who know NOTHING about firearms.
A “gun shot blast” would happen at the firing point, not the impact point.
Bullets do not explode.
Dang! My respect level just dropped a few points! I was all caught up in the logistics involved, decisions made, etc.
I thought about the conversations they must have had in the Trump campaign...
TRUMP CAMPAIGN PLANNER 1: Okay...we have a couple of options here, and it boils down to either having someone actually shoot him in the ear from 150 yards away, or having a small explosive charge on his ear that could punch a nice hole in his ear. Pros and Cons?
TRUMP CAMPAIGN PLANNER 2: I say we should use the explosive charge attached to the ear. It is too risky to have someone take a shot from that far away.
TRUMP CAMPAIGN PLANNER 3: No! How do we know it won't blow his entire ear off! Or even the side of his head!
TRUMP CAMPAIGN PLANNER 2: How about we test it on you, you obstructionist jackass!
TRUMP CAMPAIGN PLANNER 3: Oh yeah? Well, how about if I...
TRUMP CAMPAIGN PLANNER 1: Stop it, both of you! He's right. We can't calibrate it correctly, and we might blow his ear completely off. Nobody is going to elect Vincent Van Gogh for President.
TRUMP CAMPAIGN PLANNER 3: Also, how do we know some ambitious ED physician won't start asking questions about the high levels of explosive residue found on his ear-
TRUMP CAMPAIGN PLANNER 1: Heck. We could plant someone we could trust in that ED, the Left does that all the time...but no. Too risky. We-
TRUMP CAMPAIGN PLANNER 2: Good gosh! Riskier than firing a bullet into an ear lobe from 150 yards away???? And you know how Trump bobs his head around unpredictably. We can't predict what comes out of his mouth, never mind moving his head when he goes off script...Heck, if it were Biden, I would be all for it, because the guy barely even blinks his eyes or moves his mouth, never mind moving his whole head!
TRUMP CAMPAIGN PLANNER 1: The decision is made. We are going to shoot his ear. Now, on to the next business. We need someone to tell Trump NOT to move his head at this point in his speech...
