Initial filings for unemployment benefits rise, but government says the labor market still healthy. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of Americans claiming initial jobless aid rose 6,000 last week, the government said Thursday, but jobless claims remained at levels indicative of a healthy labor market. First-time claims for unemployment benefits rose to 316,000 in the week ended Aug. 13 from a revised 310,000 the prior week, the Labor Department said.
