Initial filings for unemployment benefits rise,
but government says the labor market still healthy.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The number of Americans claiming initial jobless aid rose 6,000 last week, the government said Thursday, but jobless claims remained at levels indicative of a healthy labor market.

First-time claims for unemployment benefits rose to 316,000 in the week ended Aug. 13 from a revised 310,000 the prior week, the Labor Department said.

That must be the 6,000 that made it down to Camp Cindy. Oh wait, they didn't have jobs to begin with.

By the way, the CNN headline of "Jobless claims up, top expectations" almost makes it sound like a positive. There regular headline writer must be on vacation.

No problem- easy fix. Crack down on illegals, then let the Labor department set generous immigration quotas based on job skills vs. unfilled positions.

Or, if that's too hard, replace the personal income tax dollar-for-dollar with import duties.

Gee Willie, the unemployment rate in my area (met pop over 100,000) is under four percent. That means just about anyone who wants a job can get one. The local agency that reports on these things says that the jobs involve a variety of occupations from yes, the burger flippers to the high tech ones.

In fact the u.r. here is not even the best in my state of Wisconsin which recently crowed about the numbers of jobs. Of course we have a Dem for governor now, so he takes all the credit. And the big lib paper in the state, The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel, is more than willing to trumpet the jobs announcement for a liberal Dem governor. I can't speak for other states, well Minnesota is doing pretty good too, but I'd tell people who don't have jobs to go where there are jobs.
