INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Two Indiana judges were shot in a White Castle parking lot downtown early Wednesday morning. The shooting happened around 3:20 a.m. at the 55 West South Street location. Witnesses say they heard an argument prior to hearing gunshots. Investigators haven’t found a gun, and they’re trying to figure out if the two men shot each other or if someone else shot them. Both of the gunshot victims are judges in Clark County, Indiana. They are in town for Spring Judicial College which started Wednesday morning. They were identified as Brad Jacobs and Andrew Adams. • Review: White Castle’s Impossible Slider Is One of America’s Best Fast-Food Burgers

The Impossible Burger is made from familiar components: a blend of wheat, coconut oil, and potato protein. But the Stanford biochemist who founded the company manufactures the ingredients in such a way as to mimic the aroma, texture, and taste of beef. Think of it as the vegetable version of an industrial canned sausage. The addition of leghemoglobin, a protein found in leguminous plants, is what supposedly imparts some variants of the Impossible Burger with a pink or even “bloody” interior.

‘This is something that’s become a bumper sticker,” Jamie Richardson tells me. “But it hasn’t really been thought through. There is a better way to get people out of poverty than hiking the minimum wage.” Richardson is a vice president at White Castle, the chain of famously white-painted and turreted burger joints specializing in slider-style hamburgers in the Midwest and Mid Atlantic. (Let me pause for a moment: If you’ve somehow made it through life without visiting this family-owned American treasure, stop reading this article, make like Harold and Kumar, and get yourself to the Castle . . . I’ll...

Brooklyn - Council Member Inez Barron is opposed to her Council district being the site for Denny’s Restaurant reported new location on Pennsylvania Ave between Linden Boulevard and Stanley Avenue. “It is insulting for Denny’s to seek to come into a community that is Black and Latino. Just as we fought successfully to keep Wal-Mart with a similar history of discrimination and low wage workers with minimal benefits from coming to our community, we will wage the battles necessary to keep Denny’s out,” Councilmember Barron says. "Denny’s racist and discriminatory past cannot be ignored. In 1994, Denny’s paid out an...

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — White Castle, a 90-year-old hamburger chain known for its square "slider" burgers, is sipping on the idea of offering alcoholic beverages as it tests beer and wine sales at a restaurant in Indiana. The food famously craved by stoners in the 2004 movie "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle" can be had with a glass of wine or a domestic or seasonal beer at a Lafayette, Ind., restaurant that fuses a conventional White Castle with a new concept for the company called Blaze Modern BBQ. Wine costs $4.50 and beers start at $3.

The White Castle hamburger chain fears that a health insurance reform law adopted earlier this year will put its profits on a downward slide. The Columbus-based family owned restaurant chain - known for serving small square hamburgers called "sliders" – says a single provision in the bill will eat up roughly 55 percent of its yearly net income after 2014. Starting that year, the bill levies a $3,000-per-employee penalty on companies whose workers pay more than 9.5 percent of household income in premiums for company-provided insurance. White Castle, which currently provides insurance to all of its full-time workers and picks...

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Tuesday it's time for California to study whether to legalize and tax marijuana for recreational use, though he's not yet advocating for such a change. The governor was asked about a recent Field Poll showing that 56 percent of registered voters support legalizing and taxing marijuana to raise revenues for cash-strapped California. Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, has proposed legislation that would legalize the drug for recreational use, rather than just medical purposes. "Well, I think it's not time for that, but I think it's time for a debate," Schwarzenegger said. "I think all of those...

"When I had my wisdom teeth pulled out," family friend Joseph Pignatore was saying, "my brother-in-law said, 'We should take a ride to White Castle.' ABC Sports replaced veteran Indianapolis 500 announcer Paul Page, known as the Voice of the 500, with Todd Harris in an effort to boost buzz and ratings. The network described Harris, 39, as one of the "most respected young talents" in broadcasting. Page, a 28-year broadcast veteran, told his hometown Indianapolis Star he was "terribly disappointed" by ABC's move. "I love doing the Indy 500," said Page, 59, who will handle other sports duties for ABC and ESPN. "It's all I ever really wanted to do." It was the second time ABC pulled Page from the broadcast booth. Page joined...

White Castle Security Tapes Subpoenaed In 911 Investigation Did Officers Stop For "Sliders" En Route To Distress Call? CHICAGO -- A lawyer representing the family of a woman who was murdered as she called 911 has subpoenaed videotapes from two fast food restaurants. NBC5's Derrick Blakey reported that while it's only a tip, the attorney would like to see security tapes from White Castle restaurants at 103rd Street and Michigan Avenue, and at 11th and Halsted streets. They want to determine whether the first Chicago police officers assigned to respond to Ronayle White's distress call went for "sliders" instead....
