It is hard to try to remake a film that is considered a classic (and even though released 92 years ago still tops lists of the greatest war films ever made), much less trying to do a new take on something that won Best Picture. Berger and his co-writers, Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell, and his crack team of artisans should be congratulated for making the attempt, and one that actually turns out to be a smart move. Why not tell this very German story from a German POV for a change? It is surprising it hasn’t been done before,...

This list ranks the best movies about war, battles, and military conflicts. These films recreate some of the most significant events in world history from a variety of perspectives and with a variety of purposes and intentions. Some top war films attempt to recreate as realistically as possible the events they depict, either from an omniscient perspective permitted by historical study or from the point of view of the soldiers and civilians involved in the conflict itself. Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down, for example, was both praised in its time and heavily criticized for bringing a "you are there" sense...

  • The Politically Incorrect Guide to Memorial Day Movies

Unlike many of today's 'anti-war' duds, these seven works honor Americans who served in war. Memorial Day is of course when we remember those who died serving their country in our armed services. There was a time when America's movie industry took pride in honoring American servicemen, both the living and the dead; there are a few actors and directors in Hollywood who still do. But since movies about Americans at war have largely gone in the opposite direction since Vietnam, this weekend it might be worthwhile going back to see seven movies that deal with war in an honest...

  • Anyone else seen Fury?

Has anyone else seen Fury? I just got back and it wasn't a bad movie at all. The character building scenes are a bit clumsy at times but the combat bits were top notch. It wasn't Blackhawk Down or Saving Private Ryan intense but there were tense moments. I recommend it.

This is a classic war movie, that ranks right up there with "Platoon" and superbly directed by Steven Spielberg. What many people don't know is that the main casting crew (Tom Hanks, Tom Sizemore, Vin Diesel and Matt Damon) underwent "Boot Camp" from a company called Warrior Inc. Warrior Inc is a California based company that specializes in training actors for war movies. Founded by Ret. USMC Capt. D Dye (a Mustang)after his military retirement. (1984) Most of the war movies that was produced from the mid 80's to current, Warrior Inc. has had a hand in it from anything...

Today is Veterans Day so I guess it is also a day to discuss the WORST war movies ever made. Here is my list of a few of the WORST movies IMHO: 1. Battle of the Bulge---This movie was so bad and inaccurate that Former President Eisenhower held a press conference just to denounce it. Not only was it historically inaccurate with an absurd plot (a Boston police detective piecing together battlefield clues to help defeat the Germans) but the geographic locale was all wrong with the dense Ardennes forrest at times appearing to be a large western prairie. Okay,...
  • Maybe the best war movie ever- "Brest fortress" (Full movie with English subs- VANITY)

"- This fortress, fortress here, we keep the defense, - This fortress, fortress here, we keep the defense..." This film is perhaps the best, but certainly one of the best war films made in the past 20 years in Europe. Talking about the legend of the Second World War, the epic Brest fortress that was first attacked by the Nazi hordes, the first day of the war with the USSR 22nd June 1941. The story tells of a young boy who is a trumpeter in the orchestra in Brest fortress and all the time movie battle through hell trying to...

Uncle Orson Reviews Everything ^ | November 18, 2007 | Orson Scott Card
In the News & Record last Sunday, Lewis Beale of Newsday wrote about how "War films can be hard for Hollywood to peddle." It seems that "of the four flms released in the past six months dealing with the current world situation -- all with big-name stars and the full Hollywood studio push -- none earned a profit in its initial theatrical release." Stephen Bochco explains the failure of these war films (as of his own TV series on the war, Over There) by saying, "It's a hugely unpopular war, and there's a staggering amount of depressing coverage.... I don't...
