The six Republican justices handed down a decision on Friday that effectively legalizes civilian ownership of automatic weapons. All three of the Court’s Democrats dissented. The Court’s decision in Garland v. Cargill involves bump stocks, devices that allow ordinary semiautomatic weapons that can legally be owned by civilians to automatically fire, much like a machine gun designed for that purpose. In the face of rising vitriol -- attacks, bigotry and general nastiness -- news organizations are increasingly throwing in the towel on online comments. Liberal blogger Ezra Klein loves to visit the White House, and the White House appears more than willing to open the door. Since 2009, Klein’s name appears in the White House visitor logs 27 times, according to a search of the records. The latest visit recorded in the records was December 12, 2013 -- while Klein was creating a brand new explanatory news and policy website which would become Vox Media.
