Jen Psaki, a spokeswoman for Obama's campaign, said Monday that the altered seal would not be used again. She said it was only intended for that event, in which Obama held a round-table discussion with Democratic governors. -- AP story, June 23, 2008 [emphasis added] Hat tip teoman. Add Obama's pledge to drop the faux presidential seal to his list of "inoperative" statements. The image shown here [and another seen at foot after break] are taken from the current version of "Fight the Smears," an official Obama website that purports to debunk false rumors about the candidate.

Many candidates have measured the Oval Office drapes prematurely. But Barack Obama is the first to redesign the presidential seal before the election. His seal featured an eagle emblazoned with his logo, and included a Latin version of his campaign slogan. This was an attempt by Sen. Obama to make himself appear more presidential. But most people saw in the seal something else – chutzpah – and he's stopped using it. Such arrogance – even self-centeredness – have featured often in the Obama campaign. [It's All About Obama] AP The presumptive nominee's presumptive "presidential" seal. Consider his treatment of Jeremiah...

Several years ago, I had the dubious distinction of being invited to a Black History Month talent show. I had worked with several blacks and had an excellent rapport with them. My wife is a former fashion model, and she was selected as one of the judges for the competition. In short, we were considered among the "enlightened" white folk. What we saw was disturbing at best. The competition started off with the Black National Anthem, concluding with a raised fist salute that brought a roar of approval from the audience. (You DID know that there is a Black National...

Mickey Kaus: "A one-time seal for a one-time event." ... P.S.: I should add that the faux seal was a disaster not just for the reason I gave (that it suggested Obama is "stuck up"). It also carried this counterproductive implication: that there is a separate Obama Nation, grown up in opposition to Bush's nation. Obama Nation has its own insignia and its own reality. It is somewhat alarmingly devoted to its leader. And this blue tribe is about to completely conquer the current ruling red tribe. ... Voters didn't much like this kind of revolutionary swagger in the 1960s....

It’s extremely unlikely that Barack Obama and his campaign will get in legal trouble for featuring a revised version of the presidential seal. But like Michael Dukakis riding in a tank or John Kerry declaring that he voted for war funding before he voted against it, we may have just witnessed one of those unexpected moments that, in retrospect, comes to define one of the candidate’s unflattering traits. The decision to create the “Seal of Obamerica” seems like an almost deliberate response to Peggy Noonan’s column about the difference between “Old America” and “New America,” and how each party’s candidate...

Campaign '08: Barack Obama clubs the presidential seal as he announces to the world that anyone who opposes him is a racist. With almost messianic arrogance, he has proclaimed he will save us from ourselves. When Democratic presidential candidate Obama spoke during a meeting of Democratic governors in Chicago last Friday, a new seal adorned his podium. It had nothing in common with the presidential seal he could one day stand behind — a seal we are familiar with as a representation of American strength and our desire for peace through strength. The presidential seal shows an eagle clutching both arrows...

Succumbing to an avalanche of criticism, Sen. Barack Obama's campaign has apparently decided to back away from its trial balloon of a new presidential seal. Newsmax’s lead story Monday morning reported on Obama’s new version of the presidential seal, but a campaign spokesman now says it won’t be used again. “That was a one-time thing for a one-time event,” Robert Gibbs asserted to CNN about the rather intricately designed seal that made its debut last Friday. The new seal was unveiled on Obama's podium when he spoke to a group of Democratic governors. The Obama seal did include the American...

After days of media mockery, Barack Obama has decided to stop using a presidential-looking seal that his campaign designed and affixed to his podium on Friday. Journalists said the seal, which features an eagle clutching arrows and an olive branch, smacks of arrogance. John McCain's camp had a field day, calling the seal “laughable, ridiculous, preposterous and revealing - all at the same time.” The seal was conspicuously missing from Obama's lectern when he spoke to a group of women in Albuquerque on Monday. Not surprising, given how much grief Obama took from a normally laudatory press corps after unveiling...

Like the man says, he insists on the suppression of ego; he just didn’t realize it might come off as egotistical to debut his very own presidential seal until his friends and allies in the media politely informed him of it. And so under the bus it goes, assuming there’s any room left under there with Wright, Pfleger, Rezko and who knows who else crowded in. I’ve had my fun with the Obama campaign’s seal, and now that fun ends. I’m told that Obama recognizes that it was a silly mistake, that the universal reaction at Wacker and Michigan was,...

Last week, Barack Obama unveiled a new campaign seal -- and not the kind that swims, barks and balances balls on the end of its nose. Rather, it was the kind that has a big old eagle on it and some Latin (Vero possumus, which translates very loosely to "Yes we can"). It's also a seal that combined elements of Richard Nixon's White House police uniforms and George W. Bush's "Mission Accomplished." And it went over about as well. Andrew Malcolm at the L.A. Times had some fun with it. And Mickey Kaus predicted it would be disappeared over the...

Barack Obama’s campaign has canned its use of an emblem that critics had panned as a theft of the official U.S. presidential seal. The new seal was trotted out Friday at a round-table discussion with Democratic governors. It had a blue background and an eagle in the center clutching arrows and an olive branch, similar to the president’s logo. An Obama campaign spokesperson said the seal was “a one-time thing designed for a one-time use at the governors’ meeting.” But another campaign source told The Atlantic.com that the campaign decided to stop using the logo because it didn’t want to...

Just in case you didn’t think the Obama campaign couldn’t get more arrogant, the Obama campaign unveiled a new Presidential Seal in his run for the Presidency. I’m not sure if this is just supposed to be a cheap campaign gimmick or we’re supposed to actually take this seriously. Is Obama really supposed to look more "presidential" sitting behind this thing? The hilarious thing is that this silly seal might just land him or one of his staffers in jail for 6 months because it’s an obvious rip off of the Seal of the President among others.

Numerous Free Republic Threads on this matter exist. Of the comments on these threads, the most common is the shocking display of pure narcissism. Difficult to miss, this narcissism also suggests Obama's meaning of the word "change." What we can expect is not Obama preserving, protecting and defending our Constitution and way of life, but, rather, changes in basic institutions as determined by the will of one man and his supporters. These changes will be deep and involve basic assumptions and policies of the government and American culture. While these observations are noted here; they are noted only tangentially in...

Sen. Barack Obama's campaign has stirred a lot of buzz with its latest innovation, a new seal that combines elements of the actual presidential seal and Obama's logo. They may want to rethink the Latin inscription "vero possumus," however. It made me think of opossum. I don't think the campaign wants people thinking of opossum when they look at Obama. Vero possumus essentially means "Truly we're able" which is basically "Yes, we can," the Obama campaign's slogan. Maybe "speratus" which means "hope" would've worked better. At least it wouldn't have people thinking of opossum.

Will the Obama people stop at nothing? Don't they have any deciency? When I was watching Fox TV at 6:05 pm and BHO was having the meeting with the Governors, I noticed the seal in front of him. I told my husband, "That looks like the Presidential Seal". Sure enough the Fox reporters discussed it and showed how it looked the same, but with BHO's name on it. CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) – Presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama sat down in Chicago Friday morning to discuss the economy with visiting Democratic governors, but all eyes were on the Illinois senator’s podium bearing, what might be described as, a quasi-presidential seal – a new Obama campaign logo. The seal includes the same bald eagle as the actual presidential seal clutching an olive branch and arrows in its talons, but instead of a shield covering the center of the eagle’s body, the Obama version displays the campaign’s trademark “O.” Unlike the Presidential seal, which includes the words “Seal of the President...
