Several years ago, I had the dubious distinction of being invited to a Black History Month talent show. I had worked with several blacks and had an excellent rapport with them. My wife is a former fashion model, and she was selected as one of the judges for the competition. In short, we were considered among the "enlightened" white folk.
What we saw was disturbing at best. The competition started off with the Black National Anthem, concluding with a raised fist salute that brought a roar of approval from the audience. (You DID know that there is a Black National anthem, didn't you?) Needless to say, we felt about as comfortable as a white person who happened to stumble into one of Reverend White's church services.
I hadn't reflected on that experience from the 1980s until I saw the the Obama "presidential seal". It immediately brought back the sense of despondence that I felt at that event. With all the hype about racial harmony, here was an act of seperatism and exclusivity.
Our national anthem, along with so many other symbols of our culture, relects universal truths. The Star Spangled Banner represents the struggle for freedom and the valiant determination to prevail against all odds in that struggle. It is not a white, yellow, brown or black anthem. Almost every immigrant group that has come to America can find something in that song that relates to their personal struggles. Why is there a seperate path for some?
The "Obama seal" reflects this separatist mentality, and falls in line with everything else we are learning about the man, his beliefs and his associations.
First, it is presumptious. It assumes that the office is his to reshape as he sees fit.
Second, there is the arrogance that the "new way" will somehow supplant the past, and that old symbols, however cherished or revered, must go.
Third, there is a blatant disrespect for the traditions of our country. Honest men agreed upon the design of the Presidential Seal to represent the highest ideals of the office, not some cheap, knock-off slogan like "Yes we can".
The "Obama seal" was short-lived, thankfully. What it represents, unfortunately, is an attitude that is dangerous, destructive, and devisive. Let us hope that attitude does not prevail in November.
“(You DID know that there is a Black National anthem, didn’t you?)”

Perfectly describes the candidate.

I’ve seen dozens of parodies of the “Obama” seal of approval, but what was the version he was actually using?
Practically every other immigrant group came here voluntarily. And Blacks were legally discriminated against within living memory.
And it's spelled separatism and separate.
Having said that, I agree that many Blacks are burdened by an unjustified sense of entitlement.
Regards,
On a related note, someone posted here a few weeks ago that when the arabs were ‘appropriating’ Africans for transport to the slave markets, the quick and clever Africans were seldom caught.
Barack Obama is the ultimate affirmative action candidate, he promises the fulfillment of the post modern meta-narrative of overturning the hegemony of the Western White culture. He and his handlers plan to CHANGE everything that we think we know about the government and the legal system, and use it to turn the tables on western culture. You know what judicial restoration is? Well, this is cultural restoration.
I say there is a money trail from the Saudis to the dems and environmentalists.
Stupid.
Practically every group has been discriminated against. It's time to build a f'n bridge and get over it.
I know what he stands for:
> I know what he stands for:
No, son — you don’t. It would be easy if Obama stood for Marx, and easy to defeat him if he did. He is much more dangerous than that: Obama is like Pierre Eliot Trudeau, the infamous Canadian Prime Minister that stuffed up my country of birth.
He stood for something that lacked the wit and indeed the integrity of Marxism and opposed everything that proper Conservatives stand for, and dumbed down Canada by stealth to the point of Imbecilic. It is only in these latter ten years or so that Canada as a great Nation has been able to recover. And even then, just barely...
Know your Enemy, mate. Allow Obama to be elected and you have a Trudeau-style legacy to deal with, in America. I would rather pluck out my eyes with my own hands than see that happen to you lot.
I bet you plan to vote against McCain. I strongly urge you to consider that decision carefully, and reconsider it.
Your enemy ain’t me, and it ain’t folk like me.
