Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday asked President Donald Trump to reschedule his State of the Union address — or deliver it in writing — as long as the government remains shut down. "Sadly, given the security concerns and unless government re-opens this week, I suggest that we work together to determine another suitable date after government has re-opened for this address or for you to consider delivering your State of the Union address in writing to the Congress on January 29th," Pelosi wrote in a letter to Trump.

WASHINGTON (AP) - A third uninvited guest made his way into the White House state dinner for India's prime minister in November, the Secret Service said Monday. As the Secret Service was reviewing how an attention-hungry couple—Tareq and Michaele Salahi—got into the dinner without being on the guest list, officials discovered that a third person made it through security without an invitation as well. The Secret Service said the man—whom they would not identify—did not get close to the president or the first lady. The Secret Service is investigating the Salahis, and the Justice Department is looking into whether they...

The head of the Secret Service accepted full responsibility Thursday for last week's security breach at President Barack Obama's first state dinner, but he said that the president and Vice President Joe Biden were never in danger from a party-crashing couple who shook hands and posed for pictures with them. Secret Service Director Mark Sullivan told the House Homeland Security Committee that his agents were at fault for allowing uninvited Washington socialites Tareq and Michaele Salahi into a lavish state dinner for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Sullivan told the committee that three uniformed agents had been put on administrative...

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Secret Service is investigating how an uninvited couple was admitted to U.S. President Barack Obama's White House state dinner, penetrating layers of security and mingling with VIP guests. The couple from northern Virginia was not invited to the dinner, not included on the official guest list, and were never seated at a table in the South Lawn tent where the dinner for Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was held, The Washington Post reported, citing a White House official it did not identify. A Secret Service spokesman told the Post that no one was under any risk...

Until three days ago, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon was still unsuccessful in his bid for a White House reception at which he could propose his Gaza withdrawal plan. Dov Weisglas, head of the Prime Minister’s Bureau, was dispatched to Washington to try and secure this meeting. On Tuesday unofficial announcements hailing a tentative meeting between PM Sharon and US President George Bush were leaked to the press. Today (Thursday) that meeting was cancelled, with no make-up date offered. Foreign Minister Silvan Shalom quickly boarded a flight to the U.S. to see if he could salvage the meeting, which seems to...

Richardson Urges Nonaggression Pact with N.Korea Sun January 12, 2003 03:29 PM ET By Mark Egan WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Bush administration should open talks with Pyongyang aimed at negotiating a nonaggression pact to defuse nuclear tension with the communist state, former U.N Ambassador Bill Richardson said on Sunday after three days of unofficial talks with North Korea. No doubt also the position of the Left. Fresh from almost nine hours of talks with North Korean officials (Talks which he and the North Korans initiated....not the American Government), Richardson said the United States should start talks through United Nations channels...
